The Furthest from Being Alone!
g-bodyl2 February 2015
This is the thirteenth episode of the fourth season of the Walking Dead. I certainly think this was a very good episode focused on two story lines, with a hint of a third. I thought the ending was unusual, but it shows a sense of hope is on the horizon. The dramatic moments are top-notch, and there are also some good action scenes mixed in.

In this episode, "Alone," Daryl and Beth stumble upon a house where it seems someone is living there. After a horde of walkers attack the house. Daryl and Beth are separated. Meanwhile, Maggie, Sasha, and Bob continue on the trek towards Terminus, but Maggie ventures alone after she hears of Sasha's doubts.

Overall, this is a very strong episode with excellent acting and strong writing. I also liked the prelude of the show which showed the beginnings of Bob with the prison camp, and that Bob is just not a random person. I rate this episode 9/10.

Seeking Sanctuary
claudio_carvalho11 March 2014
Maggie, Sasha and Bob are surrounded by walkers in a fog, but they succeed to survive killing them. Maggie decides to follow the railroad tracks heading to Terminus, a sanctuary where she believes she may find Glenn. However Sasha is reluctant and wants to stop in a safe building to stay protected. Maggie decides to leave her friends during the night to seek out Glenn alone and she leaves messages to Glenn telling that she is heading to Terminus.

Meanwhile Daryl is training Beth with the crossbow, but she twists her ankle and cannot walk. They find a mortuary with stored food and supplies and the place is very clean indicating that someone might live there. They decide to stay in the place, but they are attacked by a horde of walkers and Daryl attracts the attention of them while Beth escapes through the window. When Daryl gets rid of the walkers, he sees that Beth has been abducted and he runs after the car with her. However he reaches a T-junction and he does not know the way to follow. Out of the blue, a group of armed men arrive and surrounds Daryl.

"Alone" is one of the best episodes of the Fourth Season, with dramatic subplots entwined with action scenes with walkers. Once again the friends to not reunite and what might be Beth's destiny. Ben and his men do not look like good persons and Rick, Carl and Michonne are totally forgotten in this episode. I believe that in the last show of this Season, the group will gather at the sanctuary in Terminus. My vote is nine.

Title (Brazil): "Alone"

Note: On 16 April 2016, I saw this show again.

Everyone's becoming a spoilt child

Warning: Spoilers
Right now this show has had highs & lows but in no logical way is this episode as bad as the majority of you people seem to think. Maybe I say this because I'm a follower of Robert Kirkman's original graphic novels however for ya'll to keep saying that this is the end of the quality we've come to expect you sure must have really enjoyed the entirety of season 2 spent souly at that god damn farm. This is the next step; being on the road. We have seen our heroes stick it out when that had something to call home but just as this show hits it's peak you all give up. What makes this location that they are all heading towards so interesting is that it hasn't been in any of the graphic novels or books; we now officially have no idea in what to expect & I personally feel the excitement flowing through me like a hot cup of soup on a winters day.

Beautiful opening

The opening with Bob, out there alone. The music in the background. This was a beautiful way to start a great episode.

That opening!
and_mikkelsen27 January 2024
What an unexpected great way to open the episode! At first I thought it was present time..until i realized it was a flashback, showing how Bob became a part of the group and how he survived before that! The music and directing here was perfect!

The episode continues with great thrills and moments that makes me even more excited to see how it all ends as well as great moments of character!

Daryl and Beth continues to be great and I just love seeing them together! That why a certain scene with them was even more intense!

I enjoyed the stuff with Sasha and Maggie too! It adds an extra layer of investment when you see that dont agree whether to go to Terminus or not!

A slow episode but with good progress and a good end

Warning: Spoilers
The episode focuses on maggie, bob and sasha in search of a place and daryl and beth living together. Compared to the previous one, it maintains a better rhythm. The episode starts with Bob's past, it was interesting and goes deeper into it. The scene killing walkers in the fog was incredible. Maggie wants to go to the sanctuary because she thinks Glenn would go too, while Sasha wants to find a tall building. Daryl and Beth arrive at a funeral home. The interaction and dialogue between them is very interesting, I love their friendship and it makes the rhythm of the episode better. Maggie leaves and with blood she draws from walkers she writes to Glenn to go to the sanctuary. Bob decides to go for Maggie since he doesn't want to be alone. Sasha arrives at a building and cries because he realized that he let go of his love. Sasha sees that Maggie is on the ground, Sasha throws a glass and walkers appear. Sasha and Maggie kill them in an epic way. Maggie tells him that he doesn't know if Glenn is still alive. Sasha gives him hope and they go for Bob. Daryl and Beth decide to stay. Beth sings and daryl talks to a dog. Daryl opens the door thinking it was the dog, but no, it's a horde of walkers. Daryl drives the walkers away because Beth couldn't run. daryl shaped badass kills walkers. Then he leaves the house and sees a car that moves away and thinks it's beth for what he pursues. After running for hours, Daryl meets Joe and his group.

Dragging on
requiems9 March 2014
Warning: Spoilers
By this episode I've expected some sort of reunion but nope there's none. By now you can pretty much guess the upcoming scenes. We knew Glenn would obviously find the sanctuary for all cardboard sign since most of the episode was dedicated to Maggie believing that Glenn will go there. Also, the scenes in the church with Beth and Daryl they kept saying that someone was there so you knew someone will appear and since Daryl has a new philosophy that not everyone's bad, you knew that whoever they encounter will prove him wrong and that he was right that everyone was bad. The show has become predictable and it's dragging on. Hopefully the next 3 episodes will pick up and finally get to the point. Also they will hopefully get to the inevitable conclusion of them all meeting up. Just meet up already.

Quest for safe haven
TheLittleSongbird28 September 2018
Had heard nothing but great things about 'The Walking Dead' from friends and IMDb reviewers. It took a while to get round to watching, both from being busy and also not being sure whether it would be my cup of tea. Finally getting round to it a few years ago and slowly working my way through it, having had a very long to watch and review list, 'The Walking Dead' turned out to be very much my cup of tea and as good as the hype made it out to be, have found it extremely addictive.

Season 4 was very solid on the whole with as far as previous episodes go "Internship" and "Too Far Gone" being exceptional. Only "After" and rge previous episode "Still" disappointed somewhat, though for me neither were that bad, just not top 'The Walking Dead' standard. "Alone" is another quieter/lighter episode with some glimpses of the gutsy adrenaline-rush, it lacks other episodes's tautness but it is still a very well done episode that handles this approach well. It is yet again a strong reminder of how Seasons 1-5 of 'The Walking Dead' to me were absolutely brilliant and seeing the show in its full glory days (Season 6 was uneven, Season 7 was a huge disappointment and am still debating whether to watch Season 8). It is a thought-provoking episode with some tension and emotion, though these two are stronger in previous and later episodes.

It still shocks me at how an intelligent, well-made (so much so that it is easy to mistake it for a film) show about zombies could be made when so many films have tried and failed abysmally to do so.

My only complaints of "Alone" were that it at times does lag in momentum, episodes do a better job at advancing the story and moving things forward, and that Carol's decision making sometimes shows a frustrating lapse in logic.

Like all the episodes of the show, "Alone" is incredibly well made in the production values, with gritty and audacious production design, photography of almost cinematic quality, effects that look good, have soul and are not overused or abused and pretty frightening make-up. The music is haunting and affecting, having presence but never being too intrusive.

The writing is intelligent and thought-provoking, a bit heavy on the talk at times but intrigues still, with lots of tension and emotional resonance and shows signs of character complexity and multiple layer storytelling. The more eventful parts are thrilling and terrifying as well as uncompromising. Although it is the character development of Bob that "Alone" is most intriguing for, Beth's disappearance is handled in a tense fashion and the re-introduction of the marauders and of Joe is handled well as well.

Appreciated the ever strong and still progressing story, where there is never the mistake of being confused or over-stuffed, and character building, which the episode has a bigger emphasis on, and that the pace is rarely dull or rushed, with a taut intensity in the more tense parts. The character writing and the character interactions are what is particularly great here, Bob's development is one of the episode's interest points and one of its biggest strengths in that we learn a lot more about him and it's worth investing in.

Everything is nicely paced without rushing through the more important parts, not exactly taut but not dull. The world building is already stunningly immersive and effective. Direction is smart and atmospheric while the show throughout has been strongly acted, especially in this episode Norman Reedus and Lawrence Gilliard Jr.

In summary, very well done though may not work for everybody. 8/10 Bethany Cox

Some Awful Acting
slightlymad221 April 2015
Warning: Spoilers
An episode that will no doubt please the fans that hated the last character driven episode so much. But for this reviewer some of the acting was dire, and as a whole the episode was a let down. Only the Daryl/Beth scenes saved it)

Plot In A Paragraph: Daryl and Beth seek refuge in a funeral home, Maggie, Bob and Sasha disagree over where they should head.

I liked this episode, just not as much as the last one (I'm still in shock it's the lowest rated episode of The Walking Dead) We learnt a bit about Bob's back story in this episode and we also got another song from Emily Kinney. The song Beth sings in the funeral parlour, as Daryl lays in the casket is called "Be Good" and is actually featured on Kinney's second EP, "Expired Love".

Back to the episode. We now know that Rick, Carl, Michone, Carol, Lizzie, Mike, Tyreese, Judith, Maggie, Sasha and Bob are en route to the same place (Terminus) and you hope that Glenn can convince his gang to follow suit.

Though is the place as safe as it claims to be?? Who knows, but I'm sure Rick and the gang are savvy enough not to walk straight in.

We also know Daryl is with the same gang who were in the house with Rick a couple of episodes back!!

This episode highlights the group's resilience and determination to survive
fernandoschiavi11 March 2024
After escaping Walkers; Maggie, Sasha, and Bob decide they need to find a better place to set up camp. They come across signs for Terminus. The decide to go there, thinking their loved ones might be in the settlement. Maggie and Sasha are at odds over whether it's possible Glenn is still alive. This leads to Maggie going on her own. She leave messages for Glenn to go to Terminus. Sasha finds Maggie and, after fighting off Walkers, Sasha decides that they should go to Terminus.

Daryl is teaching Beth how to track and use his crossbow, as they bond some more. While searching through a funeral parlor, they are attacked by Walkers and get separated. When Daryl escapes, he notices a car driving off. He is sure Beth has been taken. He tries to follow the vehicle but fails. Soon, he is surrounded by six men, who are heavily armed with assault rifles and a bow. The leader admires Daryl's spirit, and offers him a spot in their group.

Memorable scenes include Bob's struggle with alcoholism and Sasha and Maggie's determination to keep moving forward despite the odds, highlighting the group's resilience and determination to survive. Meanwhile, Bob's optimism and faith in finding a new community provide a glimmer of hope in an otherwise bleak landscape.

More reflective character drama
snoozejonc15 December 2021
Maggie, Sasha and Bob have different ideas on sticking together or going it alone.

This is another reflective character episode that, similarly to the episode 'After', shows characters considering parting ways.

It is quite well structured in that it bounces back and forth between two groups: one that is potentially fragmenting, whereas the other appears to be well bonded. It ends quite ironically as some individuals are forcibly parted, whereas others almost do it willingly. Hope and despair are strong themes as characters debate the abandonment of searching for loved ones in favour of self survival.

Everything seems to be slowing building towards a potential meeting at the place of 'sanctuary', but at this point I do not know what is going to happen. It's difficult to say if this just stretching out the drama (and series to 16 episodes) or there will be a climax to series 4 that is worth all the build up.

All performances for me are good and (as ever) the production values are superb.

Limping to the Season 4 finish line...
Rvrgm10 March 2014
Every few years a new series comes out and is hailed as the unassailable king of television… WALKING DEAD has been that series for the last few years, but I think its time, like so many before, has now come and gone. This show reminds me a lot of LOST in that it began with very strong cast of characters who could hold their own episodes - but now that it has stretched on it is becoming predictable and slow. It seems clear now, with only 3 episodes left, that the writers had no intention of launching into the new Terminus storyline until Season 5 - and so we get eight episodes shot mostly in the woods simultaneously to save on time and money. Side characters are being given full episodes to show off the actors abilities (probably before killing most of them off) and the same decisions are being rehashed and remade week after week. A single two-hour premiere could have covered the entire same ground and kept things fresh and alive.

It's the sad but true rule of television series writing - the suits invest in an infrastructure and want to get every possible dime out of it before investing in anything else, so it drags out until it becomes ludicrous and people stop watching … I'm about to decide life is too short to waste on a show that seems to only want to take up my time now rather than to actually entertain me.

Getting better.
mm-3910 March 2014
Warning: Spoilers
The cast of lost characters are still wondering around! Daryl has found some new cool friends while losing the girl, which makes for a exciting ending. Everyone else excluding Rick's crew decides to follow the message about a new outpost. The story is starting to develop. What is at the outpost? What will happen when the scientist and the soldier arrive at the outpost? What's in Washington D C? Can the zombie plague be solved? I see Brad Pitt's World War Z approach here! I believe the answers are at the outpost? The main story line is beginning to develop. My interest is beginning to peak. Alone starts out slow with a 3 out of ten but finishes strong with a nine out of ten.I give the episode Alone seven stars because of the exciting ending.

Stop butchering this show with lazy writing.
Batuhan8713 March 2014
Warning: Spoilers
As far as I'm concerned the writers of TWD just shot themselves in this foot with the Daryl character. Last week the had an entire episode devoted to developing Daryl so we can get a better understanding as to how a character will react during a particular situation... I have NO clue what they are thinking, or what they want us to think? They portray Daryl as a very cunning ZA survivor who is always ready to anticipate any danger by looking around every corner and checking every door....they show Daryl feeling guilty about not stopping The Gov, and Daryl saying he could have done more to prevent the fall of the prison... and then...the very next episode.....they show Daryl haphazardly just open the front door to let a herd of walkers inside to overrun the house.... I find the writing very disappointing...Who is this Daryl guy?

Stop ruining what was one of my favourite shows!
Robin_clarke4110 March 2014
Not quite as bad as the Beth/Daryl episode previously but just as monotonous and badly written. Characters have suddenly become different people, zombies have suddenly disappeared, action gone, suspense gone, any sense of realism gone, where is Rick? What's with the stupid music? Why does the whole show feel like a scyfi channel attempt? Deeply deeply disappointed in something great that became this mess in just two episodes. If like me you have followed this show from the start you have come to expect a certain standard. You would think that when you create something like this you would want that quality to be maintained. I just can't understand how badly you can mess something up do quickly and why you would do it. Wake me up when it improves.

Another boring, drawn-out episode of The Walking Dead
batista_fan13 March 2014
I'm am really considering just giving up on the show at this point. The writers must be brain dead to be producing such sub standard content. This episode was mediocre at best.

Point one: The biggest thing that irked me about this episode is that instead of progressing the plot by bringing the survivors together like they should be, the writers are splitting the characters up even more then they already are. It just like what the heck?!?!? They seem to be purposefully dragging it out just in the name of suspense. Instead they are making the material staler, and staler, and staler. There are only three episodes left in this season, if this plot doesn't pick up soon, this season will not be salvageable.

Point two: Bob's flashback scene. What a waste of time. Completely devoid of any likable elements. Flashbacks as plot devices are a real double edged sword. If you use a flashback, it better be with a character that is important like a series regular or a likable character. To me Bob is too new, I don't really give a crap about his character. Unless Bob is going to die in the next couple episodes, this flashback will have served no purpose to his character or the themes of the narrative.

Point three: I think the Sanctuary and "Terminus" is bull crap. It's either a trap or overrun in my opinion. If this place was legitimate we would have seen someone from the Sanctuary already. Wouldn't they send members of their group to find other survivors to join their group? Sanctuary is a dead end period.

Point four: Maggie's decision to run off alone and split up the group is another irrational, illogical decision by a character. Maggie is slowly falling deeper and deeper in her insanity over finding Glenn. I hope she changes her thought process.

Point five: We still not introduced to the Hunters. (The next antagonistic group) Why is it taking so long for them to do this? We are running out of episodes. It has to be the next episode or I will be angry.

Overall another 40 minutes of filler material that could have been done in 20 minutes.

What a shitty episode
allansavella11 March 2014
This is probably 1 of the worst episodes. It really sucks. If this continued sucking, then i won't be surprised if they get canceled. The acting of bob and beth are terrible. Are they killing of Rick and make Daryl the main man? Prove me wrong guys.

In this episode, we look back at how Bob got into the prison group. Then it shifts with Maggie, Sasha and Bob fighting of walkers in a forest fog. Then we went to Daryl and Beth finding a somewhat funeral homes. The house is clean, meaning someone is staying there.

Terrible acting continues. New characters are being introduced. Where is Rick?

Warning: Spoilers
Another terrible episode of season 4. The opening scene of Bob is awesome. Bob Stookey is such a legendary character who didn't get enough screen time. Every one of his lines are awesome. All the scenes with Daryl and Beth are so pointless and boring. The only thing that happens between them is they are separated. Everything with Maggie, bob and Sasha is so pointless as well. They don't even find anybody else. Maggie leaves Bob and Sasha, then Bob leaves Sasha, then Sasha finds Maggie, then Sasha and Maggie find Bob. One big circle. Daryl meets the claimers at the end. Just 3 more terrible episodes and then this season is over. Then what's next? Season 5!!!?? Oh f*-
