Great show from New Zealand
stefaniedonaghy31 March 2019
I just have to say how much I love the New Zealand accent. I initially thought this show would be cheesy and just silly, but I gave it a shot, and ended up watching both seasons in 2 days. It's light-hearted, well-acted, and has lots of attractive people. Too bad there weren't more seasons.

Dorky Dave and his exploits!
m_winship26 April 2019
Dorky Dave the Bartender, 24, falls madly in love with a gorgeous woman 15 years his senior. She fluffs him off, in an atypical British fashion, as a boy toy too immature to handle her needs, besides she's got three kids and quite a whole lot going on. Dorky Dave decides she's the woman of his dreams, as the hilarity continues and the social blunders magnify and begin. I've always loved the Brits and their lovely way of expressing themselves luxuriously and oh so eloquently. This is a really fun, feel good series you should look into on Amazon. I'm a few episodes in so I can't tell you about the entire series yet. But I like what I see so far! Cheers, Murf

Love it
Jolsson459 December 2019
I do love it. I am finding more and more British, New Zealand and Australian shows. They are so much better than US shows. Great acting, no laugh track and fun. However does this mother of three, business owner ever get tired and/or get a headache. Just saying. My problem is not enough to make me stop watching, just accept it is so not reality but that's not what I'm looking for in a TV series anyway.

Love this show. More than just a comedy sitcom
jk-692-2363942 April 2014
For the last few years I have been watching lots of shows from other countries. I am so bored with Hollywood's dreadful sitcoms with those horrible laugh tracks, stereotype characters and story lines. For every Modern Family, there is 100 crap shows. Anyway- I am impressed with Step Dave. They managed to address real life topics, dating, age, work, divorce, love, kids, with humor but they do not go for cheap laughs. The writers actually write real life situations. Topics and things that my friends and I have dealt with. Dating younger guys, kids, divorce, Grandparents, and friends. I like the cast. I think they are talented and a good ensemble. I am not crazy about the mean sister character and her husband, they could do with less time and story, Dave's jerky roommate is annoying and shallow, but overall the show works. The only thing that drives me mad about NZ/Australia shows is it seems like they do not give shows much of a chance. Update: the show is getting even better as it goes on. I am very impressed with the relationships and how this show presents things. I hope they get a second season! Update-They got a second season! I am so glad. I really like this show. Update: It made it to 3 seasons and it just got better. I am so bummed they canceled it.

The whole package!

I wish Hollywood could make shows like this. Just like 800 Words, the characters are so relatable and authentic. I would put this on a par with Parenthood. Only two seasons? This just leaves me wanting more!

This show had me hooked from the beginning, all the characters are perfectly cast and they throw enough surprises in to keep you guessing. Watch this you will not be sorry.

Every episode told a wonderful story...the acting was awesome. Aside from the age difference...Cara and Dave made it believable!

Perfectly cast, extremely well acted, and really really well-written.

Highly recommend you binge watch this one.

What a stupid, shallow show.
eddiemikell22 July 2020
I cannot see why there is one positive review.

The acting is horrid, the characters are shallow, with no development.

I have seen better videos produced on a 3rd graders iPhone.

It is just one unbelievably bad show.

Step Dave

I discovered Step Dave as I was browsing Amazon Prime Video. I started watching it and could not stop. It is very well done, every character has depth, a storyline and no one is superfluous.

I admit to loving Rom Com. The love Dave has is extraordinary. He cares for what is important to Cara because it becomes important to him. He values her and gives of himself in many ways.

I am now a HUGE Jono Kenyon fan.

*waving my magic hand around*

Someone find him and give him work, lots and lots of work.

Jono Kenyon is extremely talented. His various facial expressions bring new energy and life to his characters. Jono is tall, handsome and talented. It is in Hollywood's best interest to hire him!

Lots of love and good wishes!

Horrible interruptions!
edtinker9 August 2020
Amazon offered this for a time free, and uninterrupted, but now it is only S1 and full of awkward, and spastic commercials that can go as much as 70 minutes and then shows 20 seconds before going to another 40+ minute series of horrid commercials. The show is excellent, and the cast superb, but also so well organized. I want to buy it on DVD one day it will be available in the US.

... this show was creative-fun & the entire cast in top form... it could have easily gone on another season or more... w-all the crap now on TV.. taking away one of the better romantic-comedies was very disappointing for all its numerous fans.

A perfect blend of Kiwi drama and comedy
aussiekiwitvlover23 May 2023
Don't let its two season run put you off, 'Step Dave' is definitely one of the best drama series to have come out of New Zealand!

'Step Dave' centres on Dave, a 24 year old barman who sleeps around and loves to party. He is a down to earth kiwi bloke. Cara is a 39 year old single mother of three, who owns her own business and tries to resist her sister's attempts to set her up on dates.

A chance meeting leads to the collision of two very different worlds and a night of bonding during a three hour wait at an A&E clinic. Dave and Cara find that they can't stop thinking about each other and meet up again, only to discover that they have a 15 year age gap. Their relationship surely couldn't work, could it?

Step Dave is a lighthearted romantic comedy with a perfect range of supporting characters. The series is well written and an enjoyable watch and it is interesting to see the development of not only Dave and Cara as their relationship progresses but also of their friends and family. A highly recommended watch.

Love this show. Funny, touching well-written and well-acted.
charlesrc9040519 August 2022
This New Zealand show is really wonderful. It has a lot of heart and is consistently funny.

The entire cast is suburb;; there is not a weak actor among them. Every actor nails their character.

In 2017, Deadline reported that NBC in the United States bought "Step Dave" and put it into development. I can't find anymore news on this.

If NBC ever produces and airs the show, they should consider bringing back the original cast, and particularly Sia Trokenheim as Cara and Jono Kenyon as Dave. Both their chemistry and their comic timing are perfect They are completely believable as a couple who love each other.
