Spader is a Late Bloomer -- Who knew?
A_Different_Drummer5 January 2015
Most reviewers will start off a review telling you what they know. This more or less establishes the pecking order in a review. Who talks. Who listens.

I prefer to start this one telling you what I don't know. Spader was, I believe, a "brat pack" member as a younger actor. He never gave a bad performance. But he never gave a great one either. He did a film with Susan Sarandan the name of which I have completely forgotten. (Remember the "what I do not know" theme here.) It was fun. At the time.

I cannot readily name or identify his body of work over the last two decades. I do not know which other actors read for Blacklist except to add that millions of viewers should be grateful "they" did not get the part.

I do know that as the series progresses his acting is on an entirely different level of magnitude than his cast associates. And he just keeps getting better.

I gave this episode a low rating by the standards of the series, a high rating by the standards of most other shows. The story lacks bite, it is bit hard to swallow (as compared with, for example, the earlier episode where the Bureau was hijacked, Red was in a locked cage, and Lizzie was about to be shot in front of him -- THAT HAD BITE).

However what this episode does have is the opportunity for Spader to show his dominance over the role and he does that in (ahem) spades. Simply to watch his performance is worth the visit.

Quite the Little Statuette
Hitchcoc7 November 2022
We have some interchanges here as Pratt and Reddington spar with one an. They have a history and while she is formidable, he seems to get the upper hand. We have a historical relic, a little statue, that is valuable on its own, but it turns out it contains valuable information about nuclear weapons. Lizzie gets in the middle of the deadly game. At one point in a negotiation with Pratt, Red reveals some secrets about himself concerning the death of a sweet little girl. It seems to tell us something about his past and his underlying anger. With Red, however, we never know what is a ruse and what is personally accurate and truthful.

This episode begins in Istanbul, a woman who says her surname is Reddington. Red has a appointment with the woman named Madeline Pratt, the new target on The Blacklist. Liz helps Madeline Pratt with the heist she planned. Liz and Red go to the Syrian embassy to steal the figurine. Liz triggered an alarm. Pratt stole the figurine. Tom wants some time without Liz. Madeline and Red got ubducted by Syrian man. Red can get out because he made a deal with the Syrian gang. The task force and the Syrian gang shoot against each other. Red got the figurine from Madeline. Solid episode of The Blacklist Season 1, a bit disappointing but it gets a little better these episodes.

Turkey is not Persia

Warning: Spoilers
Dear producers, you must reflect countries in your stories "as is". If the story is in Istanbul, you can't put a hijab on every women's head. This is a free country and everybody has right to wear in any way he/she likes.

This is a great series, but you must be very very careful.

Turkey is not like Saudi Arabia
striker_can18 November 2020
I just started to watch the episode and what i have seen in first 5 minutes is, Istanbul was shown like a place in Saudi Arabia, This is completely unaccaptable, Everybody is free to live their life as they wish acccording to legal regulations. They can drink alcohol or go to night club,Or Muslim or Christian people go to pray, there is freedom in our country. There is no restriction for wearing or drinking alcohol. And in a lot of movies or series especiially USA based ones, they are showing Turkey always like this. Make a review in internet about Istanbul and see the real life.

There are not only women with hijabs in istanbul

Warning: Spoilers
There are not only women with hijabs in istanbul.

Istanbul is shown differently. There are not only women with hijabs. It was shame for producer and other responsible people.

Madeline is always smiling. I did not like it. It was antipathy for me.
