Quotes

  • [Daryl sees Beth cry over the Country Club bar when he breaks the peach schnapps bottle in front of her]

Daryl Dixon : Ain't gonna have your first drink be no damned peach schnapps. Come on.

  • [Beth tells Daryl that he's going to be the last man standing]

Beth Greene : I'll be gone someday.

    Daryl Dixon : Stop.

Beth Greene : I will. You're gonna be the last man standing. You are. You're gonna miss me so bad when I'm gone, Daryl Dixon.

Daryl Dixon : You ain't a happy drunk at all.

Beth Greene : Yeah, I'm happy. I'm just not blind.

  • [Beth tells Daryl that he's afraid]

Daryl Dixon : You don't know nothing.

Beth Greene : I know you look at me and you just see another dead girl. I'm not Michonne. I'm not Carol. I'm not Maggie. I've survived and you don't get it 'cause I'm not like you or them. But I made it and you don't get to treat me like crap just because you're afraid.

Daryl Dixon : I ain't afraid of nothing.

  • [Beth tells Daryl what she wants from him]

Daryl Dixon : What do you want from me, girl, huh?

Beth Greene : I want you to stop acting like you don't give a crap about anything. Like nothing we went through matters. Like none of the people we lost meant anything to you. It's bullshit!

Daryl Dixon : Is that what you think?

    Beth Greene : That's what I know.

  • [Beth takes her first drink of moonshine]

Daryl Dixon : [Daryl pours Beth a glass of moonshine]  All right. That's a real first drink right there.

Daryl Dixon : [Beth hesitates]  What's the matter?

Beth Greene : Nothing. It's just... my dad always said bad moonshine can make you go blind.

Daryl Dixon : Ain't nothing worth seeing out there anymore anyway.

Beth Greene : [Beth takes her first drink]  That's the most disgusting thing I've ever tasted.

Beth Greene : [Beth takes a second drink]  Second round's better.

    [Beth chuckles]

  • [Beth finds out why her father stopped drinking]

Beth Greene : I get why my dad stopped drinking.

Daryl Dixon : You feel sick?

Beth Greene : Nope. I wish I could feel like this all the time. That's bad.

Daryl Dixon : Hmm. You're lucky you're a happy drunk.

Beth Greene : Yeah, I'm lucky. Some people can be real jerks when they drink.

Daryl Dixon : [Beth looks at Daryl]  Yeah, I'm a dick when I'm drunk.

  • [Daryl blames himself for what happened at the prison]

Beth Greene : I remember. When that little girl came out of the barn after my mom. You were like me. And now God forbid you ever let anybody get too close.

Daryl Dixon : [Daryl yells]  Too close, huh? You know all about that. You lost two boyfriends, you can't even shed a tear. Your whole family's gone, all you can do is just go out looking for hooch like some dumb college bitch.

Beth Greene : Screw you. You don't get it.

Daryl Dixon : [Daryl yells]  No, you don't get it! Everyone we know is dead!

Beth Greene : [Beth yells]  You don't know that!

Daryl Dixon : [Daryl yells]  Might as well be, 'cause you ain't never gonna see 'em again. Rick. You ain't never gonna see Maggie again.

Beth Greene : Daryl, just stop.

Daryl Dixon : No! The Governor rolled right up to our gates. Maybe if I wouldn't have stopped looking. Maybe 'cause I gave up. That's on me.

    Beth Greene : Daryl.

Daryl Dixon : [Daryl's voice cracks]  No... and your dad. Maybe... maybe I could have done something.

[when Beth holds her arms around Daryl from behind]

  • [last lines]

Daryl Dixon : [Daryl gives Beth the lighter to start the fire to the moonshine house]  You wanna?

Beth Greene : [Beth smiles]  Hell, yeah.

[Beth lights the house up and raises her middle finger to the rising fire, when Daryl raises his middle finger to the fire with her]

  • [Daryl says the inside of the moonshine house reminds him of his home]

Daryl Dixon : That shed out there, my dad had a place just like this.

Daryl Dixon : [Daryl points to the living room chair]  You got your dumpster chair. That's for sitting in your drawers all summer drinking.

Daryl Dixon : [Daryl points to the bucket on the floor]  Got your fancy buckets. That's for spitting chaw in after your old lady tells you to stop smoking.

Daryl Dixon : [Daryl picks up a newspaper]  You got your internet.

  • [Beth tells Daryl that he was made for this apocalypse]

Beth Greene : I wish I could just... change.

    Daryl Dixon : You did.

Beth Greene : Not enough. Not like you. It's like you were made for how things are now.

Daryl Dixon : I'm just used to it, things being ugly. Growing up in a place like this.

Beth Greene : Well, you got away from it.

    Daryl Dixon : I didn't.

    Beth Greene : You did.

Daryl Dixon : Maybe you got to keep on reminding me sometimes.

Beth Greene : [Beth smiles]  No. You can't depend on anybody for anything, right?

  • [Beth tells Daryl that they should burn the moonshine house down]

Beth Greene : We should burn it down.

Daryl Dixon : [Beth laughs]  We're gonna need more booze.

  • [first lines]

Daryl Dixon : [Daryl and Beth run into the trunk of an abandoned vehicle]  Come on. Come on.

[as the two survive the thunder storm and snarling Walkers by hiding till the morning]

  • [Beth gets attacked by a Walker at the Country Club before killing it]

Beth Greene : Thanks for the help.

Daryl Dixon : You said you could take care of yourself. You did.

  • [Daryl takes Beth to a house that stores cases of alcohol]

Daryl Dixon : Found this place with Michonne.

Beth Greene : I was expecting a liquor store.

Daryl Dixon : No, this is better.

  • [Beth tries teaching Daryl a drinking game]

Beth Greene : So first I say something I've never done and if you have done it, you drink, and if you haven't, I drink. Then we switch. You really don't know this game?

Daryl Dixon : I never needed a game to get lit before.

Beth Greene : Wait, are we starting?

  • [Daryl takes a piss while playing the drinking game with Beth]

Daryl Dixon : I'm gonna take a piss.

Beth Greene : [Daryl throws a glass that shatters in the corner of the room]  You have to be quiet.

Daryl Dixon : [Daryl yells back from the corner]  Can't hear you! I'm taking a piss!

Beth Greene : Daryl, don't talk so loud.

Daryl Dixon : What, are you my chaperone now?

  • [Daryl gets mad from playing the drinking game with Beth]

Daryl Dixon : Oh, wait. It's my turn, right? I've never... never eaten frozen yogurt. Never had a pet pony. Never got nothing from Santa Claus. Never relied on anyone for protection before. Hell, I don't think I've ever relied on anyone for anything.

    Beth Greene : Daryl.

Daryl Dixon : Never sung out in front of a big group out in public like everything was fun. Like everything was a big game. I sure as hell never cut my wrists looking for attention.

    [as Beth remains silent]

  • [Beth and Daryl find a woman's body who hung herself]

Beth Greene : Help me take her down.

Daryl Dixon : It don't matter. She's dead.

Beth Greene : It does matter.

  • [Beth gets behind the bar at the Country Club]

Beth Greene : [Daryl breaks an empty glass]  Did you have to break the glass?

Daryl Dixon : No. You have your drink yet?

Beth Greene : No. But I found this. Peach schnapps. Is it good?

    Daryl Dixon : No.

Beth Greene : Well, it's the only thing left.

Beth Greene : [Beth nervously manages the bar]  Who needs a glass?

  • [Beth tries to guess what Daryl did before the apocalypse]

Beth Greene : A motorcycle mechanic.

    Daryl Dixon : Huh?

Beth Greene : That's my guess. For what you were doing before the turn. Did Zach ever guess that one?

Daryl Dixon : It don't matter. Hasn't mattered for a long time.

Beth Greene : It's just what people talk about, you know, to feel normal.

Daryl Dixon : Yeah, well, that never felt normal to me.

  • [Beth keeps drinking her moonshine]

    Daryl Dixon : Slow down.

Beth Greene : This one's for you.

Daryl Dixon : No, I'm good.

    Beth Greene : Why?

Daryl Dixon : Someone's got to keep watch.

Beth Greene : So, what, you're like my chaperone now?

Daryl Dixon : Just drink lots of water.

Beth Greene : Yes, Mr. Dixon.

  • [Beth and Daryl take shelter in the abandoned moonshine house]

Beth Greene : Well, if we're gonna be trapped again, we might as well make the best of it. Unless you're too busy chaperoning, Mr. Dixon.

Daryl Dixon : Hell, might as well make the best of it.

Daryl Dixon : [Daryl holds up his moonshine]  Home, sweet home.

[as the two take a drink]

  • [Beth starts to play the drinking game with Daryl]

Beth Greene : Okay, I'll start. I've never shot a crossbow. So now you drink.

Daryl Dixon : Ain't much of a game.

Beth Greene : [Daryl takes a drink]  That was a warm-up.

  • [Daryl and Beth continue to play the drinking game on who's been out of Georgia]

Daryl Dixon : I've never been out of Georgia.

Beth Greene : Really? Okay, good one. I've never... been drunk and did something I regretted.

Daryl Dixon : [Daryl takes a long drink]  I've done a lot of things.

  • [Daryl and Beth continue to play the drinking game of who's been to jail]

Beth Greene : I've never... been in jail. I mean, as a prisoner.

Daryl Dixon : [Beth chuckles as Daryl pauses]  Is that what you think of me?

Beth Greene : I didn't mean anything serious. I just thought, you know, like the drunk tank. Even my dad got locked up for that back in the day.

    Daryl Dixon : Drink up.

Beth Greene : Wait. Prison guard. Were you a prison guard before?

Daryl Dixon : [Daryl pauses]  No.

  • [Daryl tells Beth a story about the time he was watching a kids cartoon]

Daryl Dixon : Merle had this dealer. This janky little white guy. A tweaker. One day we were over at his house watching TV. Wasn't even noon yet and we were all wasted. Merle was high. We were watching this show and Merle was talking all this dumb stuff about it. And he wouldn't let up. Merle never could. Turns out it was the tweaker's kids' favorite show. And he never sees his kids, so he felt guilty about it or something. So he punches Merle in the face. So I started hitting the tweaker, like, hard. As hard as I can. Then he pulls a gun, sticks it right here.

Daryl Dixon : [Daryl points to his head]  He says, 'I'm gonna kill you, bitch.' So Merle pulls his gun on him. Everyone's yelling. I'm yelling. I thought I was dead. Over a dumb cartoon about a talking dog.

Beth Greene : How'd you get out of it?

Daryl Dixon : The tweaker punched me in the gut. I puked. They both started laughing and forgot all about it.

  • [Beth tells Daryl who she misses the most]

Beth Greene : I miss Maggie. I miss her bossing me around.

Beth Greene : [Beth laughs]  I miss my big brother Shawn. He was so annoying and overprotective. And my dad. I thought... I hoped he'd just live the rest of his life in peace, you know? I thought Maggie and Glenn would have a baby. And he'd get to be a grandpa. And we'd have birthdays and holidays and summer picnics. And he'd get really old. And it'd happen, but it'd be quiet. It'd be okay. He'd be surrounded by people he loved.

Beth Greene : [Beth laughs before crying]  That's how unbelievably stupid I am.

Daryl Dixon : [Beth takes a drink]  That's how it was supposed to be.

  • [Beth tells Daryl that he has to stay who he is and not who he was]

Beth Greene : You got to stay who you are, not who you were. Places like this, you have to put it away.

Daryl Dixon : What if you can't?

Beth Greene : You have to. Or it kills you.

  • [Daryl tells Beth what he was doing before the apocalypse]

Daryl Dixon : I was just drifting around with Merle... doing whatever he said we were gonna be doing that day. I was nobody. Nothing. Some redneck asshole and an even bigger asshole for a brother.

Beth Greene : You miss him, don't you?

    [as Daryl remains silent]
