A very dramatic return.
Sleepin_Dragon11 December 2020
How has his moment in court, he has two choices, to plead guilty, and bring peace to the Latimers and those close to them, or two plead not guilty, and ensure the need for a trial.

I have become aware that many fans aren't particularly struck on the second series, and if I remember it does drag on a little, but there is no denying the gravitas of the series opener.

Such was the skill and craft of writing in the first series, that the moment where you see Joe for the first time, you get shivers, quite literally.

Very well acted by the main players, Tennant and Colman are a league apart, both are superb.

Some added complications, and the overhang of a previous case, it's an interesting premise, I don't think it has the same intensity of the previous series opener, but it's still an attention grabber.

Very good indeed, 8/10.

Continuing something you thought had come full-circle
winters_light13 January 2019
I aim to keep my reviews spoiler-free so I'm limited to saying that with the first ep of season two the story of Broadchurch and the Latimer family is being continued when at the end of S1 it seemed all had come full circle. But it seems there is more to be learned and by the end of that opener as a viewer I already felt as invested again as I had during all of the first season. This first episode is largely establishing the new old situation and introducing the elements that this run will obviously be about. As before it's done brilliantly. New characters are being introduced and they are every bit as interesting as the ones we already know. The cinematic work in my eyes is, once again, nothing but stellar and the cast is once more pulling you into the story from the get-go. The only reason for giving this nine instead of 10 stars is that feeling that I had while watching - that something previously finished is being unravelled again and at some instances that felt odd to me. All in all though still a perfect start to the second season.

I swear to God, I can't handle this show

Warning: Spoilers
I just can't. I was nervous through the whole episode, it was so bloody brilliant. At first, when Mark wasn't answering his phone, I thought he was cheating on Beth again. And I thought to myself: That bastard! But then, when I realized that he was hanging out with Tom I couldn't decide if I was disgusted with him or I felt sorry for him. I don't know if he's planning to murder Tom, or if he misses his son and this helps him a little. And the courtroom scenes were so powerful. The acting is incredible.

I like that Paul and Becca are together. They're really adorable.

One thing I forgot. The second part of this episode, aside from trial. The new mystery. Finally they'll show us more about Sandbrook. It looks promising, and I wasn't bored by it at all.

For me, all the elements in this episode worked perfectly.

So That's How We Get Back to Work!
Hitchcoc23 August 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Of course, Joe pleading not-guilty had to be. He is guilty, but now we are going to see the entire legal dog-and-pony show. The family is thrust back into the spotlight. A high powered legal team is set up to defend this creep. A suitable prosecutor needs to be found. Meanwhile, Alec is playing with fire. He is protecting Claire, the wife of a psychopathic killer who murdered two young women and is out for revenge (he was never convicted). Of course, Alec's credibility (or lack of it) is going to be paraded in front of a jury. Every bit of dirty laundry is going to be pulled up the flagpole for all to see. There are still a whole bunch of secrets out there as well and this looks like a really intriguing series. I'm trying to parcel them out, but it isn't easy.

I'm still crying! This episode was one of the most intense and suspension building episode I've seen this year. Excellent acting on all parts!

Just Problems
Littleman9512 December 2020
A great beginning of the second season! In this episode there are tons of new things! Just... wow! This show does not loose its charm! And every character is very well developed. I love it!

It's always interesting seeing how actress and actors changes between seasons.

I have this feeling that Jodie Whittaker rarely overreacted in some scenes. I mean, I think that she exaggerate sometimes. I like Charlotte Beaumont, she has a future like actress, in my opinion. Also Jonathan Bailey and Phoebe Waller-Bridge gave me a good impression.

Wonderful acting!!

I'm only giving this episode a 6 because it is so stinkin obvious who murdered the girl(s) in the Sandbrook case. If they had left out the last scene I wouldn't of known, but it was instantly apparent. Don't think I'll watch this season.

Here we go again
studioAT10 February 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Did Broadchurch need a second series at all? That's my first question. "Of course it does" ITV reply. Anything to boost ratings, especially on a Monday night.

This will be a different sort of series I feel. Juggling the aftermath of the Broadchurch death and Hardy's personal mission to solve the Sandbrook case won't be easy, especially when as an audience we would much rather focus on the first.

I hope it doesn't descend too much into courtroom drama, that's always a little dull.

The signs of quality are there, but there is certainly a different vibe to Broadchurch series two.

BoredChurch has become even more ridiculous as if the detectives should even be working on this case. Yawn.

David Tennants latest Dr Who Script.
cedwinpowell7 January 2015
First of all, The whole premise of the 1st series, was and still is totally floored. Serving officers would never be allowed to work on a case, where they possess a personal interest, secondly a "who dunnit" is based on a logical process. Waving a wand like magic in the last episode and coming up with a villain who it could have been totally improbable and ultimately the last person in the village to do it. Its so unbelievable it could have been a plot from a Pink Panther film, Inspector Clouseau esq. Series 2 is floored on the basis series 1 is floored and the writer couldn't even be bothered to come up with a new idea for a script. Poor, very poor!

Horrible writing, horrible ideas
ramblingvagabond13 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Just as the first episode of season 1 highlighted what slimy filth the media is, the first episode of season 2 is meant to highlight what slimy filth lawyers are. They will knowingly take a case where the defendant is guilty just to show off their crooked skills at abusing an already corrupt system, and get a guilty, murdering pedophile out of jail.

If this is what season 2 is going to be all about, I won't be watching it. If writers suck so much at coming up with new scripts, I would never even considering lowering my standards to watch the filth they spew out.
