Nice but nothing special
donthedragonwilson99930 January 2014
Warning: Spoilers
After the solid first season of American Horror Story the second one was one of the most entertaining shows I've ever watched on TV. It was full of surprises, original ideas, gore, dark humor, great acting and the writers were all at the top of their creativity. Well now the third season came to it's end and while it wasn't bad at all, I guess it was kind of a let down after the first two. There was potential in the whole coven thing (just take a look at the fantastic open credits - yeah, full of lost opportunities...) but this time the writing was a bit muddled without a real main character or a coherent storyline and only a few episodes were memorable. OK we got a Supreme by the end but after the three most interesting characters died previously (Delphine, Nan and Marie) I didn't really care about it. Nothing shocking happened here: the bad dies, the good rules and of course we lost the last funny character left (Misty) so it was time to finish the whole season.

While I think the idea of bringing back old cast in different roles worked well in season 2 it doesn't really worked here. I mean it would be nice to see Taissa Farmiga as a main character but writers forgot about her after the first three episodes and they didn't know what to do with Evan Peters neither and even Jessica Lange was a bit...too much. OK, she was waaay too much!! But on the other hand the new cast was fun to watch! Of course Kathy Bates stole the show but the beautiful Angela Bassett and the bitchy Emma Roberts were awesome as well. So it was a nice season but I hope the next one will be a real shocker again.

Memorable for Stevie Nicks and her seven wonders song.
blanbrn30 April 2019
Remember the season of "AHS" "Coven" about young girls and being witches and spreading their wings and this episode is highly memorable as the opening features the music and hit song from Stevie Nicks called Seven Wonders which is so fitting as the song has to do with magic, mystery, nature, earth, and the supernatural which fit the show so well as the series as in life was always an unexpected discovery. Overall good way to close out the season.

Why ending so simple?
hamedazad17 February 2014
Warning: Spoilers
OK, I should say I was disappointed, I really expected more from this finale. It was simple. Although it ended well.

I thought the quest for supreme crown should've been more challenging. first of all, misty day was out so easily, she had all this powers and potentials in her that was just wasted in the story. second, Zoey, the dying scene was stupid. Why would she end up at the top of that fence? Third, Madison, she wasn't even trying to save herself when Kyle was choking her. She was a fighter all along the season. Fourth, the supreme, Cordelia, really???? She didn't know she had all these powers???? REALLY??? If no one tells you you can light a fire in a witch coven, you will NEVER try it???? I preferred Zoe to be the supreme. It would've fit nicer in the story.

And The last but not least. A compliment. Fiona went out very good. Actually I was disappointed on the previous episode on how they killed Fiona so easy. But this time it was good. REAL good. and the hell, spending eternity with axeman, real wise...

Overall, great season, simple (but acceptable) finale.

S3.E13 - The Perfect Episode To End This Season [10/10]
panagiotis199321 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
(S3. E13) My Live Reaction / Review for American Horror Story Season 3 Episode 13 ''The Seven Wonders''. The previous episode was good and I gave it a rating of 9/10. Let's see if this one is better or worse. All the witches have the skills but who will be the winner? Misty died? That sucks! I thought she could be the next Supreme! Is Zoe dead? That's it? Why they wont bring her back to life? Cordelia is doing the seven wonders? I didn't see that coming. Madison is not the Supreme, im happy she isnt. Kyle killed Madison? And Zoe is back? So many twists, I like it. So now the public knows about witches? I don't know if that's a smart decision. They also let Madison die? Why not bring her back to life? Myrtle wants to pay for her crimes? I didn't see that coming. Damn, Myrtle's death made me emotional. Fiona is alive? Seems like Fiona died and went to hell. Overall this episode was good, my rating is 10/10.

AHS - COVEN: A supernatural teen horror drama.
edicionccq23 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The coven of witches is looking for the new supreme; meanwhile, trouble is always behind the young witches.

I couldn't watch the second season of AHS, but it's still in my watch list. So I skip to the third season. Coven has been so far from being frightening. It's a teen drama with witches. It's full of the twist and turns and some magical creatures but I won't say that something terrifies me this season.

The highlights actors in this season are in my opinion Jessica Lange, Lily Rabe, Emma Roberts, Kathy Bates, Gabourey Sidibe and Denis O'hare. They slay this season with their performances. My favorite character of the season is clearly Misty Day.

Even though I like this season, I have problems with it. They resurrect all the time, no one stays dead in this season until the last episodes. And it's not like in the previous first season where everyone dies but they become ghosts. No, they died, and they come back to life for magical powers. The fact that no one dies make this season less intense.

Also, Evan Peters and Taissa Farmiga are there for the sick of being there. I didn't like what they did with these actors. That was a dirty move.

This is a good season if you take it as a teen drama with witches and some good deaths but you also have to be aware that no one stays dead for much longer. This season gets 8,5 of 10.

What is this? KNOTTY PINE?!?😂
sphereofblue1 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I really just wanted to comment on Fiona's hell. It just made me laaauugh!!😂😂 From the start the nondescript tiny floral bed sheets (definitely not Egyptian cotton) then the harsh sunlight shining right into her no doubt hung-over and blood-shot eyes, it started to resemble something she'd absolutely hate. This selfish woman who had always been the most powerful person in the room, using and casting aside men with relish, manipulating friends and enemies to get her way, being repulsed by and jealous of her own daughter, all while existing in the lap of luxury. This woman now has to spend an eternity with no power, under the thumb of a man, smelling of catfish in a badly decorated farmhouse made of KNOTTY PINE!! *chef's kiss*😆🤣

What a letdown
jonjerome28 December 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Halfway through this season I started to realize that a lot of what we were being shown was actually kind of silly, but we were being kept from realizing it due to the strength of the lead actors: Lange, Bassett, and Bates. These three dynamite performers pulled out all the stops to make Coven's increasingly far-fetched mishmosh of catfights and shifting alliances seem plausible. So when all three were taken out of the picture before the final episode, I suppose it was inevitable that the remaining cast would flounder.

It seems like the writers floundered too. The dialog was getting stilted in spots already as the season progressed, but when you have those three, each of whom could recite the phone book and make it sound like literature, you have a cast who can deliver stilted dialog and still sound convincing. The rest of them, not so much, and the lines were never so trite in any episode as in this one. It's like the writers couldn't figure out what lines to put in these actors' mouths that wouldn't sound hammy, and finally said screw it, let's just phone in some B-movie clichés and move on.

This is nowhere more apparent than in the return appearance of Stevie Nicks. The first time she appeared, and treated us to an embedded music video that contributed zero to the story and positively subtracted from the atmosphere, I immediately thought of Fonzie and the shark. And she's no actress; can't even hold her own in the same room with the supporting cast, let alone Lange, who was straining to stretch her character enough to stay believable when asked to lounge around and act like a dreamy fan. I knew the season was in grave trouble then, and having her pop up again, for no apparent reason except maybe to fill some time, cemented my bad expectations for this finale.

Other reviewers have commented on the plot holes. I don't want to rehash them all, but I do have two comments not yet made here. First, why couldn't Madison just teleport away from Kyle? And second, the first time we see Misty she's feeding a couple of rednecks to alligators, but by the end of the season her private hell is having to kill a frog? Really?

By the time we got to the finale I was hoping they'd pull it out and end on a strong note, but I was afraid they wouldn't. They didn't. Too bad.

Disappointing finale to a great season.
goombapizza31 January 2014
This finale feels like the writers were sick of writing and just wanted to get the season over and done with.

Sloppy, lazy writing. Too many plot holes to count. Felt rushed, boring and incredibly anticlimactic. An important death was completely brushed off. Tons of things didn't even try to make sense. And what was up with that gratuitous, corny and inappropriate Stevie Nicks music video? Then the final scene was cheesy, appropriate to top off a total disaster of a finale.

I am so disappointed. If this had had a worthy final episode, Coven would have been my favorite season of American Horror Story by far. But it was terrible. Shame on the writers. I want that hour of my life back, and I want a rewrite, a proper ending to this otherwise exceptional story.

Disappointing
kittybuttons26 October 2014
Warning: Spoilers
The season started off so well, showed lots of promise and built up well to the middle. Then it just seemed to become a muddled mess, culminating in what I consider to be one of the worst finales in the history of all of my favourite TV shows. I didn't watch it on TV and have just watched the DVD box set. This episode was so weak I actually waited for the next episode at the end of the credits to round everything up only for the DVD to end. In spite of my disappointment, I'll try to look at it objectively:

Good points - the beginning of the seven wonders was fun... that's about all I can come up with!

Bad points - where to start??! Well systematically through the episode the first stupid thing is of course the absolute travesty that is the end of Misty Day. Why did the writers do that? If they had to kill her off they could've done it in a better way than to send her to that awful Hell. Come on writers, she was the best character going and you annoyed most of your fan base with that one.

Second, how did Zoe end up on top of that fence? That was just stupid. They could all clearly control transmutation so there was no way she's end up on the fence. Just silly.

Third, Madison just letting Kyle strangle her to death. Really? She's a bad-@ss witch, like she couldn't stop him some how. And also, was it just me or did they make it look like Madison's spirit went in to Zoe in the way they panned from Madison dying to Zoe coming back?

Fourth, Cordelia being Supreme. Where do I start with this one? They mentioned so many times that the Supreme is in perfect physical health, so how does blind, infertile Cordelia qualify? Not to mention she's shown no sign of most of the powers necessary until Myrtle suddenly decided it must be her and all of a sudden she can do all of them.

I could go on as there are so many plot holes in this episode. Not to mention loose ends not being tied up. I understand that it's not always possible to tie up everything but so many things were left unanswered. For example, what's Spalding done with that baby? In fact, how is Spalding still there given that he's dead?

In spite all of the plot holes and loose ends, I could still forgive them had the episode been entertaining and the ending made some sense. But I can't forgive boring writing and nonsensical endings. It's a shame as a large portion of the season was really very good.

Coven Deserves Better
qwertyuiop479 December 2014
Warning: Spoilers
So just a few days ago, Coven came out on Netflix. Just like with the other seasons, I ended up finishing in just a few days. Before I finished however, I heard the finale was somewhat disappointing, and sadly, I have to agree. It wasn't absolutely horrible, just not very good. The episode felt rushed, and I felt some poor choices were made. Let's start small with Madison's death. Now Madison had her death coming for a while now, but the way she died just didn't make any sense. If she's such a powerful witch, then how was Kyle able to kill her so easily? The whole murder just came off as beyond ridiculous to me. Another complaint I have is the death of Misty. I may be a bit bias since she was my favorite character, but I just found it really unfair how she had to spend eternity in her own personal hell, after doing absolutely nothing wrong. To make things worse, her death was totally pushed aside and forgotten almost immediately. Probably my biggest complaint is the fact that the writers totally abandoned the storyline of Marie and Madame Lalaurie. I mean come on, they can't just end with the two of them in hell for eternity, even if they deserved it, I would at least appreciate some kind of closure. Also, Fiona's hell didn't quite make sense, since she was rejected by Papa Legba, yet he still shows up. It just felt like a plot hole, but I might be wrong with this one. Now to talk about the things I did like: Cordelia being the supreme was just fine for me, even if I preferred Misty. Also, she gets her eyesight back, which I was also happy about. I'm also happy at least Zoe and Queenie survived. I also liked Cordelia's talk with Fiona, and Fiona tricking Cordelia into thinking she was dead. That's just about it. Coven would've been my favorite season, but I just can't get over how disappointing the finale is. However, as a whole, I found Coven to be great, and it's still my 2nd favorite season after Asylum. Sadly, the finale just failed to wrap up the story in a satisfying way.

A disappointing season overall
quitao2 April 2022
I'm not sure what happened but after Madison cam back from the dead, the show really lost its way and went off the rails, especially with characters doing random out of character things with no explanation to move the plot along. Everything episode just got worse and worse and this final is no exception.
