Recommendation to add an "Inspired By Real Events" notice in the credits.

Warning: Spoilers
I loved the episode! That said, since I just finished reading the Adam Makos book, "A Higher Call," published December 19, 2012, I immediately recognized that the episode portion involving Ralph Waite (with Waite filling the role of the real world U.S. B-17 pilot, Charlie Brown - I'm not kidding) was inspired by real world events. These two gents actually did meet after the war (about 1992) and the meeting inspired Adam Makos' 20 year effort to document the well written book. Recommend that the episode producer at least add the phrase, "Inspired By True Events" in the credits with whatever reference is believed to be appropriate. Note: These events are currently being made into a documentary film by Tom Stoppard. Again, a great episode.

This one made me cry
nortok0020 March 2022
I don't too often comment on individual episodes but I just saw this episode for the first time (I only recently started watching this series of NCIS). If I had know the last few minutes would bring me to tears I wish have kept a box of tissues nearby. Reading the trivia section it looks like there was an actual incident like this that happened in WWII. Those are the stories that warm the heart.

A Few Good Men?
mmcqtx26 March 2018
Marine "Michael Dawson" looks a lot like Marine "Harold Dawson" from "A Few Good Men" in fact I believe it is a photo from the film. Can anyone verify this? No credit is given to the actor in the NCIS episode. The actor in "A Few Good Men" is Wolfgang Bodison.

Ralph Waite's character of Jackson
ganthony32130 March 2020
I have to disagree with the previous review. I think Jackson acted exactly how an older, possibly early Alzheimer's patient might act. Forgetful, grumpy, confused, and angry at his son for not remembering what HE probably doesn't fully remember.

Better Angels

Better Angels.

Like wow. Gas is only $407.9 a gallon? That had to be, like, a century ago.

That dang gum DCS tracking covering umm? Department?

What are they up to, Abbs?

Oh my. Bath salts, marihuana and PCP. No wonder he was crashed in the closet.

Ralph Waite, great acting
shug-7629510 October 2023
I agree with the other reviewers, Ralph Waite did a great job. A very moving performance. As a retired Air Force flyer and combat veteran, I can relate to what he was feeling. Very moving. I was never bother by how Jackson acted but I was with Gibbs. His father made it clear that it was very important to him to have his son accompany him in seeing his friend. Case or not, this may be the last time Gibbs can be a part of an important event with his dad. But Gibbs made it clear that his job was more important than his dad. McGee has just over 10 years as an NCIS agent and Tony has 15 years plus as a NCIS agent and police officer. By this time, McGee and Tony each have more time as NCIS agents than Gibbs had when the show started. If Gibbs can't walk away from a case and let them handle it, then Gibbs hasn't done his job as their supervisor, trainer, and mentor. Treat them with the respect they have earned with their years of experience. The one reviewer said he want to yell at Jackson, I want to hit Gibbs and tell him to show his father more respect and love. Cases will come and go but we will see that Gibbs dad will not be around much longer. I can guarantee that Gibbs will regret how he acted toward his father.

Absolutely awful
vlcupper17 August 2015
I like Gibbs' dad and Ralph Waite was a fantastic actor, but the character got on my last nerve in this episode. I don't know if they were trying to go for desperate to find his friend before time ran out, but he just came across as petulant and whiny. I actually yelled at my computer during the part where he left out the fact that the guy was German and got mad at Gibbs for trying to help him find the guy. "You left out the most important part." "No, son. We were fliers. That was the important part." Not if you wanted to find him! Jesus! I can't even remember what the rest of the episode was about, because he was so irritating. Awful episode. Almost as bad as that stupid jet-pack episode.
