Actor and comedian Ken Jeong, who is currently a judge on Fox’s “The Masked Singer,” is developing a talk show with an eye toward a 2024 launch, according to media reports on Friday.
He taped a test show in New York on Friday, Deadline reported. That’s not a SAG strike violation as talk show hosts are under a different contract and no longer a WGA red flag — as it was for Drew Barrymore and Bill Maher — as writers have gone back to work after successfully negotiating a new contract with the AMPTP.
Jim Biederman of “The Kids in the Hall” will serve as showrunner, writer and director. He’ll also executive produce alongside Jeong for Debmar-Mercury, the company behind “The Wendy Williams Show” and “The Nick Cannon Show.”

Christopher Miller created the American murder mystery comedy tv series The Afterparty Season 2 is set to release in July.
The plot of the series revolves around an after-party at a high school in which a murder takes place. Each episode of the series offers a different perspective of characters about what happened at that party.

When actor Ken Jeong was an aspiring medical student at Duke University, he developed a passion for acting. Even though The Masked Singer panelist received his medical degree from UCLA in 1995 and is still a licensed physician in California, he chose to hang up his white lab coat and pursue a career in acting, which has paid off handsomely. While Jeong is no longer a practicing physician, he is married to a doctor. In 2002, Ken Jeong met his future wife, Tran Ho, when they hit it off at a singles mixer for doctors.
Jeong has had an impressive career
After earning his medical degree, Jeong started working at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in West California. But he never lost his desire to become an accomplished actor. He eventually landed bit roles on television shows such as Two and a Half Men, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Office, and more.

Calum Worthy and Krista Marie Yu have plenty of TV experience between them. Worthy rose to fame by starring in Disney Channel shows like "Austin & Ally" before graduating to more mature subject matter in "American Vandal" and "The Act." Meanwhile, Yu appeared regularly on more recent sitcoms like "Dr. Ken" with Ken Jeong and "Last Man Standing" with Tim Allen. That made starring in Hulu's new meta sitcom comedy "Reboot" a bit surreal and therapeutic.
"Reboot," from "Modern Family" creator Steven Levitan, follows the creation of a revival of the fictional early 2000s sitcom "Step Right Up," a riff on shows like "Full House" and "Step by Step." In the series, Worthy plays Zack, the formerly cute child star of the original sitcom that's being rebooted with the same cast, which includes Keegan-Michael Key, Judy Greer, and Johnny Knoxville as his co-stars. The Masked Singer is currently in the middle of its fifth season on Fox and the team behind it is aware it needs to outdo itself each season to keep fans glued to their screens.
This year, they also had to do it in the middle of Covid-19, a pandemic that initially hobbled their host Nick Cannon. The entertainer was replaced for the first five episodes by Niecy Nash, who had previously been a panelist.
Ken Jeong, one of the stars of the show, speaking at Deadline’s Contenders Television: Documentary + Unscripted awards-season event, said that Nash fit the show like a “glove.” “She was amazing to do it on such short notice. Our chemistry was instant. I marvel at how she did that with just a few days’ notice, I’m in awe, this is a very hard show to moderate.”

Tisha Campbell, Essence Atkins, Tahj Mowry, Isaiah Mustafa, and Beth Grant have all been cast in ABC’s multi-cam comedy pilot “Black Don’t Crack,” Variety has learned.
The group joins previously announced series star Sherri Shepherd. The show follows three former sorority sisters who lost touch after college and reunite during a pivotal point in their lives. The show marks a reunion for Mowry and Atkins, who previously starred together in the Disney series “Smart Guy.”
Campbell will play Tasha Marks, described as a hip and fabulous Atlanta restaurateur who starts trends instead of following them. She holds nothing back and is brutally honest (sometimes to a fault) with her friends, but has been avoiding a truth in her own life. She’s achieved the perfect professional life and insists that she needs no man in her life to interfere with the career she’s worked so hard to create.

The first time Ken Jeong arrived on the set of “Community,” co-star Joel McHale jokingly asked him what he was doing there. Shouldn’t the breakout “The Hangover” actor be focusing on movies?
“Then I kind of thought like, we had been handed this secret weapon,” McHale recalled. “And then of course, six years and two cancellations later, Ken I were thick as thieves. Nobody worked harder. I was like, man, he’s got it dialed in, I better learn my lines!”
Jeong and McHale met up recently over Zoom to chat about their friendship and working relationship for Variety’s “Dream Teams,” a new series that pairs collaborators who have become known for their successful teamwork.

When Fox announced last month that its new singing competition “I Can See Your Voice” would launch this fall behind Season 4 of smash hit “The Masked Singer,” it surprised almost everyone. While most programs were still investigating how and when to get back into production during the pandemic, “Voice,” which debuts Sept. 23, had already wrapped an entire stealth shoot by early August.
The network’s secret weapon? Ken Jeong, the comedian who may be the most ubiquitous face on Fox this season. Jeong is the centerpiece of what Fox has now jokingly dubbed “Kensday,” a Wednesday lineup that includes both “Masked Singer,” where he serves as a panelist, and “I Can See Your Voice,” which he hosts.

“Just like ‘The Masked Singer,’ ‘I Can See Your Voice’ is a distinctive format that makes for a big, bold creative swing,” said Fox Entertainment’s Rob Wade, president of alternative and series. “And with Ken leading the charge as host, it’s going to be another crazy ride for viewers.”

Since “Veep” series creator Armando Iannucci left the presidential series after its fourth season, television has been longing for his very particular brand of satire. Finally, that longing has been answered: HBO just dropped the official teaser trailer for his latest satire, space comedy “Avenue 5.”
Starring “Veep” alumnus and all-around comedy veteran Hugh Laurie, “Avenue 5” is “set in the future, mostly in space” onboard the titular Avenue 5 space ship. Laurie plays Ryan Clark, captain of the Avenue 5, who — as you can see from the trailer below, set to Harry Nilsson’s “Spaceman” — knows how to charm any passenger who takes up residency on his ship, even in major crisis time. He also knows how to pull off an empty space captain one-liner in any situation, whether it’s “fly safe, fly true,” “let’s keep our eyes on the prize,” or “set your phasers to fun.”

Exclusive: NBC has put into development Wildfire, a drama from Bad Teacher creator Hilary Winston and Sony Pictures TV, where Winston is under an overall deal.
Written and executive produced by Winston, Wildfire is timely given that we are at the height of the California wildfire season and crews in Northern California are currently battling a blaze in San Bruno Mountain despite unprecedented preventive power outages.
Echoing last fall’s devastating Paradise fire, in Winston’s Wildfire, when a devastating wildfire hits the idyllic community of Whispering Bells, Calif., some are spared, others are not. The real danger, however, lies in the small town’s secrets smoldering just below the surface.
This marks a first one-hour drama sale for Winston who so far has worked exclusively in half-hour comedy. Another veteran comedy TV writer, D.J. Nash, successfully made the switch to drama two years ago with ABC’s A Million Little Things.

(Warning: This post contains major spoilers for Wednesday’s episode of “The Masked Singer.”)
“The Masked Singer” fans waved goodbye to The Eagle on Wednesday’s episode of Fox’s whacky celebrity singing competition after the rock ‘n’ roll version of our national bird was eliminated and revealed to the world to be talk-show host, podcaster and addiction medicine specialist Dr. Drew Pinsky.
Pinsky’s Eagle, who initially sang Meatloaf’s “I Would Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That),” was knocked out of the sky by The Flower. Ironically, Eagle was permanently grounded by flightless bird The Penguin, who won the “smackdown” survival round.

Tim Doyle is taking over as showrunner and executive producer on the upcoming second season of “Schooled” at ABC, Variety has confirmed.
Doyle takes over from Season 1 showrunner and series co-creator Marc Firek, who has exited the series to focus on development. The news comes just months after Doyle’s 1970s-set comedy series, “The Kids Are Alright,” was canceled by ABC after one season. That show was inspired by Doyle’s own childhood, with Doyle also serving as the narrator on the series. Doyle is currently under an overall deal at ABC Studios. He previously served as showrunner on the multi-cam comedy “Last Man Standing” while it was at ABC, and also worked on ABC comedies like “Dr. Ken” and “Speechless.”

While Ken Jeong was filming one of his scene-stealing moments in “The Hangover” — you know, the part where his character Mr. Chow declares, “Right after you suck on these little Chinese nuts” — director Todd Phillips allowed the actor to let off some steam.
In speaking with TheWrap, Jeong recalls getting the chance to riff for a solid 10 minutes in a single take, material that ended up on the DVD extras for “The Hangover.” He got applauded on set for his intensity and passion, and the role helped catapult him to stardom.
But Jeong revealed he almost didn’t take the part of Mr. Chow because his wife Tran was recovering from chemotherapy. Jeong occasionally slipped some Vietnamese into his dialogue, and the quirks that made his character iconic were actually inside jokes meant for his wife.

“It was very cathartic,” reveals Ken Jeong about performing his Netflix stand-up special “You Complete Me, Ho.” Watch our exclusive video interview above where he adds, “my favorite segment was the last 10 minutes, talking about my wife (Tran Ho) and her fight against breast cancer. She’s now cancer free. Telling that story, weaving it in with ‘The Hangover’ and how that impacted my life is probably my favorite thing I’ve ever done.”
To work on this emotionally hefty set, Jeong says, “I went in with expectations that it’s not going to get belly laughs. I just wanted to see if the audience was listening. There are some jokes in that serve as undercuts to relieve the tension but keep the stories going.”

Maintaining the mystery on “The Masked Singer” is essential to its allure, but with a second season on the way, the Fox series will have to change things up to stay one step ahead of the audience. In the crazy singing competition, viewers try to guess the identities of celebrities who are disguised from head to toe. Only when they’re voted out are the singers unmasked.

Ken Jeong delighted audiences in “Crazy Rich Asians” as Papa Goh, the high-haired, nouveau riche father of the Goh family. But behind the laughter, a range of emotions welled behind the comedian, for the road to “Crazy Rich Asians” was a deeply emotional one. Even now, while doing press for the film, Jeong can’t help but get emotional talking about the impact of this feature film.
“It’s bigger than us,” Jeong said. “This movie is bigger. I have a very modest, small role in this movie, yet, I’ve never felt so culturally emotional about it.”

Getting “Crazy Rich Asians” made the way author Kevin Kwan and director Jon M. Chu wanted it has been a battle, one Jeong himself has had to wage on the set of “Dr. Ken” as well. And he’s ready for Hollywood, and the world to change.

Warner Bros. rolled out the jade carpet for the Hollywood premiere of “Crazy Rich Asians.”
With the temperature hovering around 95 degrees outside Tcl Chinese Theatres on Tuesday night, everyone seemed to be talking about the weather — while blotting and wiping sweat from their faces.
“Do you like how Warner Bros. managed to create Singapore-style temperatures?” producer Brad Simpson joked.
The cast and crew may have been melting, but they powered through with excitement over the movie, the first studio film featuring Asian-Americans in lead roles in 25 years.
“To be in a film that is representative of what should be, we should be normalizing all of this,” said Henry Golding, who stars in the romantic comedy about a New York University professor (Constance Wu) who accompanies her boyfriend, Nick Young (Golding), to Singapore to meet his uber wealthy family. “We shouldn’t be the only Asian film made in 25 years. That’s ridiculous.

Hot on the heels of its biggest debut in years, ABC will bring back its “Roseanne” reboot in the fall, sticking on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. Perhaps providing a little balance to its schedule, the network will also bring back Alec Baldwin’s talk show, now titled “The Alec Baldwin Show,” this fall.
Originally titled “Sundays with Alec Baldwin,” the show got a sneak peek — to mixed reviews — after the Oscars in March. Based on his podcast “Here’s the Thing,” the show features Baldwin’s interviews with various personalities.
By including two such outspoken personalities on its fall schedule — a Donald Trump fan (Roseanne Barr) and the man who plans him for laughs on “Saturday Night Live” (Baldwin) — might give the network a little bit of cover, by invoking their schedule’s “balance” if one or the other says or does something politically controversial outside of their shows. (Which they probably will.
