The Poker Game (#9.5)

I don't know how people can say it is not a funny episode. Maybe it is because the show was even better. But I love how it is going now. This long showing of the time before wedding is showing a great creativity of the writers and makes the final time with those great characters so much better.

The wedding gift and wedding note story was fun. Them being passive aggressive and also discuss it all was great. I also liked the scene with Stuart.

And Robin fighting with Barney's mother and brother was good. I wonder if there will be more on this. Based on the final scene it might be

More Of The Same

Warning: Spoilers
I'm starting to see that almost the entire final season will be devoted to the wedding of Barney and Robin.

Plot In A Paragraph: James continually slagging off the institution of marriage causes a showdown between him and Robin. A showdown that involves Loretta getting involved and Barney is forced to choose between his family and his soon to be wife. When Lily learns that Ted is getting Barney and Robin multiple wedding gifts, Lily is furious as Ted never got her and Marshall a wedding present.

Again Cristin Milioti does not feature in this episode, which is a disappointment, there were only a few laughs to be had, but it was a solid episode.

HIMYM back on its track!

Since the start of the season 9, all high expectations seemed to drown a bit with the coming episodes all centered around the wedding making it monotonous but this episode put the HIMYM train back on its track. It is what How I Met Your Mother lovers want- the flashbacks, HIMYM humor and the emotional touch. I'm happy to watch this episode as it has regained my fading interest. The writing was good and overall to say it was original HIMYM Style episode. Though it is not the bestest episode but certainly the best episode of season 9 so far. I hope we all get such episodes more often in the coming future. Overall, I loved it. Rating-9.0/10

Oh Good Lord...

Warning: Spoilers
HIMYM has certainly been in decline in quality for a considerable number of years. In fact, I would argue since the end of the wonderful second season. The show has left me angered due to the delay in revealing The Mother, and now that the show finally did reveal it, I was excited to follow the character. Rather, she has already become a point to ignore in the season.

The episode features one decent story line, which is the relationship between Ted/Lily/Marshal. The idea as to whether or not Ted bought a gift for their wedding was entertaining enough. Sure, the story has been executed better earlier in the series but it was entertaining enough nonetheless.

I loathed the Robin/Barney story. Cobie Smulders varies in her portrayal of Robin, from gaining my sympathy, then forcing me to shove that sympathy down a garbage chute! Robin is incredibly frustrating this season, and has me yelling at the TV screen incessantly and excessively the way the character normally yells. I was once behind the relationship between Barney and Robin, but currently, both characters are irritating me to a breaking point. Robin is far too domineering over Barney, to the point where she keeps James's wedding ring. What!?

I also find it difficult to understand where the writers took this character. She started out as a person who put career over relationships, and this turned out to be the reason the Ted/Robin relationship never blossomed. The point is, the character's development from a career oriented woman, into a relationship oriented woman has not been made believable.

There is one thing I care about in the final season of this very disappointing TV series: the wonderful Cristin Milioti as The Mother. Her performance has already been utterly terrific in every sense of the word. Her first encounter with Lily speaks enough about her wonders.

Horrid, unfunny, rehashed jokes

HIMYM has been declining for some time now, yet 'the poker game' was a new low. Ted's unfunny self deprecating comments, poor acting from supporting cast and a storyline being dragged out of all proportion. Are they gonna drag this wedding out for half a season?! This show used to be great; funny, relatively original at times with a good bit of randomness thrown in. 'Friends' suffered a similar lull, season 7 of that was pretty poor, yet it was never this bad. I think the producers are just getting lazy to be honest. I only watch this now because I have for 8 years, hopefully my patience will be justified! Some more Barney wacky stories please!

If I was watching this season on Tv about 8yrs ago, I would begin a petition to change the show's title. To something like 'precious Milioti and some buffoons' or whatever... For real...
