Warning: Spoilers
This is it family, after a pretty solid season us SN fans have been hoping for a good end and something that would shake things up, and boy did they EVER.

Blown away with how good this episode was, in my opinion it is the best season finale yet. We finally deal with Metatron, but now Cas is in charge? What now? This brings in Gabriel, maybe he could rule since we aren't sure if the last Arch-angel lives or not.

But DEAAAAAANN!!! Can't believe he's a demon now, the whole paradigm shift is INCREDIBLE. From the creature he sought most to kill he has become, and Crowley knew all along! It explains his closeness to Dean now!

I can say I am EXTREMELY excited for Season 10, the writers managed to pull off a big one fam, and boy am I ready for the next season!

Breathes new Life in the Supernatural We Have all Grown to Love
serbian_00720 May 2014
I want to start by telling the world how proud I am to be a Supernatural fan right now. Going strong since 2005! The season 9 finale of Supernatural was epic and stunning to watch. This season has had its ups and downs, with mostly good episodes but no too many of the episodes that make you want to scream at the TV and ramble "holy Sh**" to yourself a hundred times like a crazy person in response to what you just saw. You know a series is good if that's the reaction you make. I can give this finale a 10 out of 10 because it had me yelling "holy sh**" till the cows came home. I would say the finale has reinvented the series and succeeds in breathing new life in the Supernatural we have all grown to love. The finale felt like the scary and horror driven Supernatural of old, not the wishy washy Twilight rip off we saw in the worst episode of this season, #bloodlines.

Now the directing, the pacing, the storyline (loved the scenes with Metatron), and the acting was spot on. Castiel (Misha Collins) was stellar as always and Gadreel was phenomenal. I can't even start with how great Dean was in the episode; if Jensen Ackles doesn't get an award for his portrayal of Dean, then the world truly has gone insane. I have virtually never been as moved as I was watching the end scene with Sam and Dean; simply put, it was pure and utter perfection. Thank you Jared and Jensen. I want to see you both on the screen filming Supernatural into the 20th season.

WARNING *POSSIBLE* SPOILERS (For the smart people): There is new life to the show because we have a unique plot driven by Dean's redemption, much like the great TV series Angel (1999-2004) which was driven by a vampire's quest for redemption. I predict Dean will follow the path of Angel in his own quest for redemption in Season 10 of Supernatural. Angel went strong for 5 years centred just on that plot, so it's hard to see why the next season or even the next few seasons of Supernatural can't do the same. The possibilities are endless. I can't wait for Season 10.

"Do You Believe in Miracles" made me believe in Supernatural AGAIN
hexMyMind21 May 2014
OMG!!! This is Supernatural. This is what i have been craving for so long. Season 9 finale has made me revisit the old days full of glory. This Story, those moments which leave you in tears, the characters, the way they present it, that music and so so so many more things i love about Supernatural. Season 9 finale will definitely leave you gasping for your breath.

I admit that not all episodes in Season 9 were upto the mark (Bloodlines specifically), still this series has astonished me and so many other people again and again for almost a decade now, and that is due to episodes like these. "Do You Believe in Miracles" make us believe in Supernatural for what it is.

I don't even need to say anything about acting. These guys have been so deep into the characters for 9 years that they exactly know how the characters will react. Jensen Ackles as usual is amazing in this episode. He is the "Dean" we all know and love . Jared Padalecki finally showed us a moment of compassion and caring for his brother which we all have been looking forward to this season. Misha Collins is apt in his role. Mark Sheppard always amuses me as Crowley. This guy, i can never figure him out. He is evil or good, god knows whats going in his demonic head. Curtis Armstrong as Metatron is mind-blowing. This guy fits so perfectly into the profile. He gives a life to his character.

Season 9 finale of Supernatural will leave you puzzled, shocked and excited for the upcoming story. Without spoiling anything i would definitely give this finale a 10/10 and count it among one of the best season finales of Supernatural.

Looking forward to Season 10 so badly now.

From Tears to Shock!
galet0921 May 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This was a great ending to a decent season 9 and though it wasn't the best season, it was interesting. This particular episode is worth watching for sure.

Viewing the scenes with the new God, I found myself wishing SOMEBODY would stop the egomaniac Metatron in his tracks. I was SO disappointed that Dean not only failed to do so, but ended up getting killed in the process. I was SO sad and shed a few tears, but then, enter a savior. A savior for Dean only one you wouldn't expect.

Crowley? So he brings Dean back as a Demon? How is THAT even possible I'm wondering? But then again he IS the King of Hell, so I guess yeah he could do that.

But what on earth is Sam going to think? Will he even realize that Dean is a demon? I'm thinking not, at least not at first. But I'm sure he will find out eventually.

And Metatron is now behind bars because non-leader Castiel decided to spare the angel his life. I'm not sure that was a wise choice. I somehow feel Metatron will not be imprisoned for long. He's too smart and he will find a way to escape, you know it.

I'm SO looking forward to the first episode of Season 10. Can't wait until it comes out. Hope I don't have to wait too long.

Great season finale to a not-so-great season...
Shane318220 May 2014
Season 8 of Supernatural left us off on a high note, leaving a world of opportunities for the season to follow, and it all lead to one of the most underwhelming seasons we've ever had in the series. While looking back at the episodes, I realized that only about 11 of the total 23 episodes were necessary for the plot. Even in previous seasons, such as season 5 with Lucifer as the main enemy, while the brothers weren't on a 24/7 hunt for the devil, they were still progressing forward while also focusing on other aspects. This season, however, had the plot practically take a seat on sidelines while we were expected to be invested in one-episode plots that not only didn't progress the overall plot, but were also the cause of many inconsistencies and continuity errors.

To summarize, season 9 begins from where season 8 left off: Castiel was tricked by Metatron and all of the angels in heaven fell to earth, and as this is happening Abaddon is trying to take over Hell. Sam is dying and Dean makes the decision to have him possessed by the angel Ezekiel (who we now know is actually Gadreel) in order to heal him, and Castiel is now a human trying to run from the angels who want to kill him. It had a strong start, but by episode 3, we were met with a facefull of plot developments that didn't make sense, and then the episodes proceeded to have several unnecessary mini-plots that were not related to any of the things that the season started with. We had endless situations of Sam being healed by Gadreel, and it was cool the first few times, but at a point it was just tedious. Cas disappeared for the majority of the episodes for no reason, and even our beloved prophet Kevin was written as some sideline character, when he truly could have had a much larger role to play, because, you know, he's a prophet! Midway through the season, the writers threw in the Mark of Cain so that we could have some new material. And after this development, we were still watching week after week of episodes that did not have anything to do with it! - So, where am I going with this? Well, practically nothing note-worthy or necessary happened for the majority of the season, and then the writers decided to get back on track in the last few episodes to salvage what was left of the plot.

Now that I've complained enough about the season in general, let's talk about this episode.

Do You Believe in Miracles?

After Dean slashes Gadreel across the chest in "Stairway to Heaven," we continue where we left off in this episode with Sam and Cas trying to hold Dean back from killing Gadreel. They lock Dean up, where Sam claims that there is something wrong with Dean, and leave him like that so that they can go try to help Gadreel. Since all of them have the same goal, it was obvious that they would work together to try and defeat Metatron.

Dean is still dealing with the effects of the Mark of Cain, and those effects are turning out to be even stronger than before. The Mark was one of the best decisions the writers made for Dean, because it ended up being the most exciting aspect of the season. Gadreel teaming up with them was also a very memorable part of the episode. In previous episodes, he has clearly shown that he is looking to redeem himself to them, since he was the one who killed Kevin Tran, and in this episode he had some of the best parts, in my opinion.

Jensen Ackles (as Dean) worked very hard to make the struggle seem real in his acting, and it came across very well on screen. All of the actors worked hard in this episode, and I can't think of even one complaint about any of their acting, they all did a spectacular job and put effort into bringing the emotions and characters to life.

This episode was very exciting and engaging in so many ways. And like all Supernatural season finales, it had a gripping cliff-hanger with some new developments that could potentially lead to some amazing stories.

So, what I'm saying is that this season itself did not impress me, but this episode was definitely worth watching. The writers once again have the opportunity to make an amazing season ahead of us, and I sincerely hope they manage to impress me with season 10. But, then again, I had thought that season 9 would be the goldmine of seasons, and I was proved wrong with that. I hope I won't be let down.

Very exciting season finale. Definitely worth watching. 8/10

Amazing Ending
danajs2414 September 2016
Warning: Spoilers
The episode as a whole wasn't the greatest. I liked Gadreel going out in a blaze of glory, and I obviously love the ending. But I'll get to that. I did not like the bums murdering an angel. It seems like angels get weaker and weaker as time goes. Remember when Cas first showed up and the demons collectively crapped themselves? Now a group of bums can murder an angel when he still has his blade. Must have been some super strong bums. Also, I like that that lady is just hanging out there after being saved by Marv. OK, now for the ending. When I watched this episode I was spacing out a little bit at the end, because how many times have these two idiots died already? So I was all ready for a disappointing ending. Then I started listening to Crowley talk, and I was like whoa he's gonna live? And then Crowley started talking about "see what I see" and the camera was slowly panning to Dean's face and I stood up, by myself and said "no (expletive) way!" Could be my favorite finale just because of that part.

Wow, I mean WOW

It was so good. Jensen Ackles, again, if Emmys weren't so bias against sci-fi/fantasy show he would have been nominated.

Great ending for an uneven ending.

Wow. Amazing episode but not as surprised as everyone else seems to be.
standsomething21 July 2014
Warning: Spoilers
OK, so this episode was amazing. It really brought back the whole tone of the show that I love, that has been missing the last few seasons. With the exception of the majority of this season, because overall, season 9 was a big improvement. I love the direction they chose to take the show, moving in to season 10. That being said, I was not at all shocked or surprised when Dean's eyes opened revealing he was now a demon. But in reading other reviews, and talking to people, it seems as though not many people saw this coming. Which to me, being a supernatural fan, how could you not? All the signs were there that Dean was changing, and there was really only one direction he could have been going. I saw this coming from the moment Dean first held the first blade, and had my suspicions from the moment Cain gave Dean the mark. But the moment in my head where I thought, "yep, he's turning into a demon", was when Dean looked down at the burger, said he wasn't hungry, and Crowley had that look in his eye as if he knew why. But even fully suspecting what was coming, this episode was awesome. All the acting was spot on, as it usually is, and the way things went down in heaven I thought was great. Although part of me was hoping that they would kill Metatron, and that would somehow restore heaven, and give the angels their wings back, but no such luck. I'm interested in seeing how that whole situation plays out in season 10 though. Overall, great episode, and great ending to an awesome season that reminded me why I love this show so much.

Big plot twist!
mm-3924 May 2014
Warning: Spoilers
We all know that Crowley was up something! Crowley has an evil plan! Well the series was dying with the same big monster hunt ending. No one cared to see another ending similar to Dick Roman. The ending was the same but with a twist. The Metatron story line was a set up for season ten. A blindside plot twist which hits the viewer like a sucker punch. When will the brothers ever learn not to trust evil characters. Another recurring theme. Dean has changed with the mark of Cain, and is do Crowley's bidding. Dean's reckless character has become a lesson of how good intentions backfire. Going through the motions episode until the final 5 minutes. Eight out of ten.

The writers know that show has lost some steam
CubsandCulture21 September 2020
The overall episode is competent at wrapping up the various plot threads. Both Zeke and Metatron get appropriate endings. I also like the reveal of the very long game that Crowley has been playing. But the coincidences are stacking up and the randomness of things show the cracks in the writing-i.e. the random angel at the homeless camp. The writer acknowledge this with Crowley's speech pointing out the predictability of it all. Being self-aware that the show has become predictable is not good enough to save it from feeling tired. Fortunately, I think the show course corrects with the big twist in this episode.

Season as a whole:

Average Episode score: 8.2174

This season ends up being right between season 7 and season 8 for overall quality. It is also the most consistent season since season 5. However, the main reason for this is Carver manages to cut out the real lows by being less daring and experimental with either one off episodes or the season arch on the whole. The resulting season ends up being middling and because the writers are repeatedly careless-with tone and lore- the show really feels tired in this season.

Culmination and shock
shwetafabm1 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
It was a good episode. Loose ends were tied. Metatron storyline was finished. It was wrapped up neatly. Then Dean's thing. S9 review a generous 8/10 Hmm so i love spn, i stopped watching it mid S9 5 years ago, i think the ep in which Dean kills Abaddon was the last i saw, the last one i am sure about was the rogue men of letters, i definitely saw that, i think i stopped watching because the first half of S9 was really disappointing, its the least fun i have had watching spn and yes that includes S7. Then i saw or found out that Dean becomes a demon and that was so ridiculously outrageous to me that i was done. I think at that point i had missed the Cain ep and didn't understand what was going on or something. Anyway i bring that up because its part of my watching experience.

S9 was bigger shift in tone for me. 1-6 felt similar in their feel and then 7 was completely different then 8 was just about the trials and then this was about the angels and a bit about demons. Idk i felt the motws were rather fine later on, it was too much fantasy this season with men of letters spells and angels and even then oz ep(which i liked) but the tone very very different in its feel. And then the politics angels and demons while we got a little bit of that in the angel civil war of S6 it was nicely done there with a pretty small dose.

Ad much as i love Cass and likes the few human scenes we had of him he bored me in the beginning and he's always an afterthought.

I liked the main plot a lot but i preferred the motws tho some of the main plot i found very very good. I know people missed Cass but i liked having things simple.

I would also like to see the brothers sweet to each other and normal more but there drama this season was atleast better than the stupid Amy thing and made sense.

Crowley plot while entertaining seemed forced. Very out of character how they didn't kill him or he didn't try to escape. And the weird obsession also kind of randomly develops. He had more interaction with Sam at that point. But it can be justified in the sense he was a junkie, he has read the books, in a previous ep stated he could play fake Dean, i buy it because i have to but its not like i can't swallow it.

Fave eps- Like S8 there was no 10/10 for me Finale, slumber party, the one with the rogue men of letters, the vampire Jody one, thinman (which ironically i hated when i saw it 5 years ago) Storylines in S9 1. Angels falling 2. Angel civil war 3. Cass being human and hunted then getting grace and leading and trying to fix things 4. Sam's possession 5. Sam not forgiving Dean 6. Moc and Abaddon 7. Crowley's blood addiction and obsession with Dean Things that happened in S9 1. TESSA I have to start with this minor thing because wtf seriously who who which person which omg who did this. I like it when in this show people actually for real die. I think it grounds the show. Makes it less ridiculous. There are deaths i didn't want to see but i liked them as part of the storytelling like Ellen and Joe and that guy from nightshifter ep in S2 or Gabriel, Bobby, Kevin. Tessa's death made no sense, the character interaction between her and Dean made no sense, why her made no sense, reapers make no sense. The whole thing was bad and what a shame because the play by Metatron itself was good. I try to go along the show tho, i can digest that this weird exchange was due to her going crazy because she did care and Dean being a d*ck now but bad decision, the only death of a character in this series i consider idiotic because its bad storytelling.

2. Angels and Repears nerfing kinda At first i was confused why Gadreel stole the car and as ridiculous the tracking thing was it registered a little late that no wings meant no teleportation. Everything else was weird. What else can they do? Can they time travel? What does being cut off from heaven mean? Cass in S5 went slowly human, that didn't seem the case here for the angels but that is ok since it can be because of special circumstances of the tablet. In the finale that angel tumbles over by a push but in S4 Dean punches Cass and he isn't hurt at all but Dean's hand is. Again its all over the place because it can be explained as the angel being too weak or something. So while i am not really mad at this it's a bit annoying how easy they die and all. And what is up with the repears. They can't be invisible now. I think it makes perfect sense that they are low level angels, like cupid was. So that actually tracks. Even the S8 reaper not being invisible can be explained but the nerfing. Why does Dean have a hold on the angels. And that weirdass repear and Cass and the weird s*x part. The angels were shown a little too naive but even that is sorta fine.

3. The fall and angel civil war Cool concept. Very cool. But its execution was boring and stretched out. I didn't care for Bart or the other faction that tortured Cass or whatever. I didn't care at all. Nada. No personality. The angel civil war of S6 was great because it was in small doses, we didn't see most of it and its grandness in heaven can be imagined, great angels like Balthazar, Raphael, even that weapons guy, Not too many not that complicated. The factions made some sense and there were some great scenes Like that gang vs sweet ladies, killing her and those kids but the intial bart and whatever thing was boring, the ending of it was boring. The Cass Bart interaction Yup boring. The kill boring. I did like Cass's story in it, especially the touching on what he did in S7 start. It did pick up when Metatron made an appearance. I liked it i just didn't like the initial nonsense and the amount of time i had to see boring stuff. It was too much stupid angel stuff for me.

4. Gadreel I liked the mystery of what's to happen with the angel possessing Sam, would he be a good guy. The twist is good. I liked his interactions with Dean in the beginning. I didn't like the repeat of stupid angel but instead of Cass it was him. I like that he was just one of the guys screwed by God and wanted to redeem himself. I didn't care much for his going around meeting that friend or whatever, didn't care.

5. metatron Actually loved him. He has some funny lines. He's psychotic. He makes a brilliant move in the su*cide thing with Cass. He is hateable. A good villain really. A bit like Crowley infact i found him.

6. Abaddon I would have loved to seen more of her. She had a great look but ultimately just about ok. Not bad at all tho. Some good creepy scenes of her.

7. Dumbing down I hate this. It's acceptable on some level but its just annoying when the writers are being weird with it. Like that guy Gadreel visits in a shop for ingredients, just assumes that Gadreel is a hunter even after he refers to his kind as "humans". What a weird unnecessary dialogue. The worst was that girl who wants Cass to babysit. So terribly set. No person talk like thar. That so unbelievably bad. Vampire doesn't kill Jody When easily can, atleast make it look like she ran or they ran or something. Reminds me of S6 when the shapeshifter alpha doesn't kill the hunters. Oh god. Demon that Crowley was sleeping with, for real, is that how she would act, just easily set herself up to being stabbed, ok this one can somewhat be explained. And now the major players Dean and Sam don't kill Crowley really. When he saves sam by getting Gadreel out Dean doesn't do it just for the deal really. They let Crowley live after killing Abaddon really. Also they are dumb enough to not know when Crowley will trick them like runnung off with the Son or when they walk out of that Men of letters rogue guy's place. Abaddon doesn't get Crowley killed when she had chances in the past, can be sorta explained by her wanting to know extent of the blade thing but she has opportunity even before that.

8. Sam's possession I liked that story arch. I liked Zeke thing. His relationship with Dean. I liked Sam's stand on it and i agreed with it.

9 Sam and Dean's fight I agree with Sam. What Dean did was violative. He should have let go. It was maybe just less worse than him selling his soul and placing that burden on Sam. I think Sam's "not your brother anymore" was a way to have a less toxic relationship where Dean does not factor in what it means for Sam when he saves him. But i do think he was too cruel with "being honest". Also nothing really changes in the relationship, Dean still lies to protect him. He doesn't do much right here and then is worse with the moc and this is a dictatorship and all. In the end when Dean is dead i don't think Sam would have sold his soul especially when they know that those souls end up demons so don't know what his angle was.

10. Kevin I liked him but he wasn't contributing much so i liked his death. His mom ep wasn't that strong but it was good to see him again.

11. Moc and dean Him taking it up was just plain stupid but it wasn't totally ooc cuz the character is stupid sometimes byt maybe a bit much. They seem a little too not concerned about it. Why does Cass not know much about it or why doesn't he tell if he knows? A mark that makes you murderous or you die... Hmm ok Its effect makes sense tho. Props to the writers fir setting it up even if it disappoints later on. The scariest thing in S3 is that scene where dream Dean pops up with black eyes So kudos for making that happen 7 years later, its just kinda screwed up in all.

And finally after Cass and Sam we are going to get a completely screwed up Dean that needs saving. Its always him being self righteous or Sam in trouble with being evil or sick, so this is a change, except from S3 ofcourse.

12. Plot holes Kevin translates the tablet to a language that Crowley knows but Cass and Gadreel wouldn't? Dean doesn't even ask because its nonsense. They didn't even really need this plot hole. Its entire point was seeing Crowley get a call, could have been something that made sense.

Same old thing, all over again, and on a loop.
m-4782617 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I think that's what it feels like to live in Hell. I've never been this disinterested in a Supernatural season finale before. Metatron was a boring villain, you knew would be defeated eventually. But the way he was, when he reprised the role of the mean girl, saying bad things about her followers. When the former prom queen, was recording her disdainful diatribe for everyone to hear. Was very cheap and anticlimactic. And what is a « good » Supernatural finale, without one of the brothers « dying »? This time it was Dean's turn, as another blatant excuse to get Crowley to save the day... I don't care being the minority here, I just think Abaddon is a better vilain. And should've been it for the rest of the series. So all this buildup was basically for nothing, because the Angel war was bound to finish by the end of this episode. The show always introduced new arcs each seasons, to be dealt with on the season ender. But this time, it felt like it didn't change anything in the grand scheme of things. And that we were cheated the big showdown between the Winchester brothers, Crowley and Abaddon, for this « God » nonsense, that ended exactly like anyone could've predicted. At least season 9 had good standalone episodes, which probably makes it standout the most from bad ones, like season 8 and 6 even. Only it is still one of the weakest, for being this humdrum and unsurprising.
