Motherhood can be... murder. We are back with our 12th episode with a re-tooled format almost in time for Mother's Day with the cult classic Serial Mom. This is also our first "initiation" episode as we are joined once again by Taylor Diffenderfer who has never seen the film before preparing for this podcast. Join us as we gush over our darling John Waters and one of his most biting, slashing, and stabbing films... you know, other than THAT one.
Can we go the distance? They don't come much fresher than this, folks. Recorded and edited within 4 hours. We are joined once again by Robert Negoesco to talk about 40 Days and 40 Nights. We manage to find lots to talk about despite how poorly this movie has aged. An initiation episode for Luc Londe as he had not seen it before, and now requires therapy, so please consider becoming a Patron.
We finally got our 4th microphone and just in time for Luc, Chuck, and Taylor to be joined by Lauren Heney to wallow in the nostalgia for this subversive film about faith, sexuality, and what it really means to be a good human. Featuring Jenna Malone, Mandy Moore, Patrick Fugit, and Heather Matarazzo among others.
We traverse the trail of rainbow carnage in various Bilgewater's restaurants across the Midwest with Hedwig and the Angry Inch. We are joined by Julia Kaplan to discuss this under-appreciated masterpiece in filmmaking and storytelling. Written, directed, and performed by John Cameron Mitchell with original bangers from Stephen Trask, we marvel at the caked-on layers and metaphors for love and identity and wonder why this film isn't taught in film schools. So nice it had to be edited twice. Thanks, Adobe.
For our first Founders Edition episode we revisit Luc's most favoritest movie of all time, but Chuck and Javier have a few bones to pick... The directorial debut of George Clooney, starring Sam Rockwell, Julia Roberts, Dew Barrymore, Rutger Hauer, and many more, we follow an adaptation of the book written by Chuck Barris that toys with the idea that he was a CIA contract killer during his TV career.
We are joined by the fraternal podcasting duo Zach Blaustone and Nathan Blaustone from the Moral Combat Podcast to take a wild ride through an unregulated theme park filled with giant monsters that a certain Mr. Meteor long ago decided should take a long nap. This classic doesn't disappoint upon close inspection and rewatch, and we all agree that this movie still holds up.
Who knew the pyramids were rigged with thirst traps? Julia Kaplan joins us once again with Chuck Starzenski and Javier Martinez to talk about The Mummy featuring Academy Award Winners (but not for this, uh, movie) Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz. At an archaeological dig in the ancient city of Hamunaptra, an American serving in the French Foreign Legion accidentally awakens a mummy who begins to wreak havoc as he searches for the reincarnation of his long-lost love.
Now Available in TechnicallyColor In celebration of Taylor Diffenderfer's upcoming birthday, we watched one of her most favorite movies, Detroit Rock City. Also in honor of this momentous occasion and with it being our 20th episode, this is our first VIDEO podcast, for which we put on the makeup of the original KISS members. Also featuring Robert Negoesco, Chuck Starzenski, and Luc Londe.
...or it it? We are joined by special guest Kevin Bordi, aka Redneck Demon Slayer, on a secret journey down the cobbled alleyways of Prague to talk about Mission: Impossible from 1996. We get a great test audience with one person who has never seen this movie, but saw the third movie first and judges everything from there; then we have one person who has seen bits on TV but maybe is watching it all in order for the first time; then two die-hard fans of this veteran Brian de Palma / junior producer Tom Cruise classic.
Would you care for some gum? Magalli Larque and Taylor Diffenderfer join us on the open road in search of Pee Wee's stolen Bicycle (AAAHHHH!!!) Between the Bathtub Waterboardings, Bull Rides and Biker Gangs this episode was a bit of a blur. Frankly, we don't remember much; except for the Alamo. The Nostalgia Killers revisit the 1985 classic 'Pee Wee's Big Adventure' to celebrate the life and times of Paul Rubens; May he rest in peace.
For our next Founder's Edition of the show we dive into Javi's pick, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Kate Winslet and Jim Carrey star as Clementine and Joel, and when their relationship stalls, Clementine goes to Lacuna, Inc. to have Joel erased from her memory. In a spate of revenge, Joel elects to do the same, only to begin regretting his decision in the middle of the process. And for some reason Water World is mentioned.
I feel... old. We are joined once again by Lauren Heney, and in honor of her birthday we are discussing Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl. Always a fun watch, and at the time of its release, the reawakening of the true adventure film, this first installment introduces us to our main players whom we follow through the next two movies... maybe the fourth, but we definitely don't talk about the fifth. Luc Londe reveals (perhaps too much) of his real life pirating days in the Caribbean and tries to steer us around some of the pirate myths that have stuck around.
For our third and final Founders' Edition of the first season, we watched Chuck's pick: Death To Smoochy, with Robin Williams, Edward Norton, Katherine Keener, and Danny DeVito. This movie was filmed shortly before 9/11, and released soon after, and its reception among movie goers was predictably tepid.
Today we break the first and second rules by talking about Fight Club. We are joined by Sam Coughlin and Lauren Heney and dive deep into a film that has been vilified and celebrated throughout the years. This one is a bit different...the regular podcast is long. There are however several moments missing. Important moments. Tyler Durden moments. These missing bits of tangent and wander will be in a collection that's not quite the Post Show, but a series of flashbacks jumbled together with mysterious receipts, random drivers' licenses, and and way too many Starbucks cups. The Tyler Durden Files will be on our Patreon, but the first rule is that you absolutely must tell everyone you can about our podcast and Patreon.
Hack the Planet!. We are joined by comedian Oliver Graves to celebrate Hackers, which flew under the radar in 1995 and didn't quite catch much popularity. First big feature for both Angelina Jolie and Matthew Lillard, this classic movie is riddled with people chewing scenery and going over the top in the most entertaining ways. Definitely a time capsule and probably only watchable to people who lived through the mid 90s.
Don't forget the handbook. We start our spooky season with a Tim Burton classic: Beetlejuice. We are joined by Campbell and Taylor Diffenderfer to discuss this gothic, yet cartoonish blast from our childhoods. With iconic performances from Michael Keaton, Geena Davis, and Wynona Ryder, this movie had a lasting impact throughout our culture.
The rules of our podcast are not very clear. Spooky Season continues with a trip back to the beginning of the Saw franchise. Come play a game as we reminisce how this film was the introduction to the horror genre. Unfortunately our fourth, Robert, was locked up in a warehouse and unable to join us as planned, but it's up to him: live or die.
Let's all pretend we're in Arizona. We are joined by Kevin Bordi with spooky season in full swing with the cult classic Tremors. Considered unsuccessful after its theatrical release, this creature movie caught the wave of home video rentals at just the right time to become one of the most well-known horror comedies of its time. Starring a nervous Kevin Bacon, Fred Ward, Reba McEntire, and Michael Gross for some reason. Join us for a special edition of Gross or Noss from Kevin Bordi.
Don't forget your complementary chicken. Julia Kaplan joins us again (accidentally?) to reminisce over Mr. Robert Zombie's House of 1000 Corpses. This being her first time seeing this cinematic wonder, Julia gives us a fresh view compared to our rose-colored memories of this movie. Full of fun, nit picks, byoobs and clowns pushing fried chicken, we had lots of rewatching this one.
We don't care if it's two weeks into November. Spooky Season ends when we say it does. In what should have been the culmination and merging of two horror genre greats, Freddy vs Jason left many feeling underwhelmed and disappointed. We have some ideas why, and we're not happy about it. Except Robert, maybe.
Is this the best family ever? We unexpectedly rediscover the most wholesome family every depicted on the silver screen: The Addams Family. Happily joined again by Taylor Diffenderfer and Robert Negoesco for this iconic classic, this film managed to capture comedy, honest affection, and childhood innocence all while pretending to make fun of all those things on the surface. This was an early swan song for Raul Julia (in addition to the sequel), and a launching pad for the talented and venerable Christina Ricci. Little did we know that this was an early blueprint for the ideal progressive family.
Where, oh where is Tim Burton? The Nightmare Before Christmas is a Halloween classic for a whole generation that has not seen its equal since arriving on screens in 1993. Despite the mysterious absences of two of our guests, Chuck and Luc soldier on and marvel at the gargantuan amount of work that went into this film, despite the movie's namesake only being on set for "8 or 10 days" during production. Henry Selick's Nightmare Before Christmas is more like it.
Enjoy the podcast, ya filthy animal. We continue our Ho Ho season with Home Alone!. In honor of Macauley Culkin's long overdue star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame we worked hard to get this one out early. A seminal and culturally important movie for generations of people, Home Alone is woven into the DNA of our lives, and we're totally fine with it. Lauren Heney and Robert Negoesco join us once again, and Luc reveals his deep dark link with this movie to the most traumatic experience of his life... in the POST SHOW on our Patreon. And we all discover that we're from broken homes. But... Happy Holidays!.
Like the world's greatest cup of coffee... Is there a more emblematic and popular Christmas movie in the last 25 years other than Elf?!?. Well, some of us think so. The pod founders sit amid festive lighting and revisit some of our most happiest moments and memories of this movie. Does it still hold up? It's hard to say no. But not that hard.
The gift that keeps giving all year long... Look out everybody. The boss is here. Our famed executive producer Addy Martinez joins us for this ultimate holiday classic. Easily beloved by us all, this movie holds up and still pays out jokes in every scene. It's doubtful that too many families experience this level of stress and friction during the holidays, but that's what makes watching this movie so great: it's not us. Even if we have a Cousin Eddie, it can't possibly get this bad. Right?
We unwrap our final gift of the holiday season to bring you a fuzzy cuddly episode about an eighties Christmas classic; but then Chuck decided to feed it after midnight. Taylor Diffenderfer, Lauren Heney, and Robert Negoesco join us once again to discuss dog safety, daddy issues, and all things animatronic as we dive into the 1984 Joe Dante creature feature 'Gremlins'.
We made it? Yes!. We made it a whole year. We take a moment to look back at all the shows we've done and choose our favorite movies and moments. And what a perfect night for the camera to fail, with us all dressed up for the occasion, though Chuck mistook the text message about us doing the show in fancy dress by, well, wearing a fancy dress. We want to thank all of our listener, and a huge thanks to all of our guests for joining us on this journey of adding yet another podcast to the pile. And a super special and grateful shout out to our Patreon supporters. Thank you so much for your help. Thank you!!. We look forward to more movies and hot takes in Season 2 :)
Who wants a mustache ride? New season, new format, new guests. We start strong with a 2000's comedy cult classic near and dear to our hearts, well, almost all of our hearts. Casey O'Connell joins us to help keep our station open as we dive into the pranks, the Winnebago fights, and the "Afganastan-imation". Is this Broken Lizard's best film to date? Has Luc ever chugged syrup in real life? Will Javier hate this movie? Tune in to find out meow.
That's right, woodchuck-chuckers - it's... In Season 2 of this podcast, we're not shying way from the big dogs of movies from our childhood, and Groundhog Day is easily an essential movie for most people. We take a closer look at this veritable masterpiece of a Harold Ramis movie, and, even though we're aware of the darker tone that this story almost took, we still love it. Carrying this theme on into our Sonic Death Monkey Top 5, we crack each other up and try not to kink-shame each other.
Ding, Ding, Ding. In this corner, wearing the Heavyweight Champion Belts we have The Gruesome Twosome; Javier Martinez and Luc Londe, defending one of the most iconic sports films of all time. The indomitable spirit, the training montages, and the final bout to end all final bouts. And in the opposing corner, we have Chuck "I haven't seen one of the greatest films of all time" Starzenski, bringing up all of the misogyny, ad-libbing, and dead air. Who will take the title? Sonic Death Monkey Top 5: Top Five Movies That Spurred Self Improvement.
Get Off My Plane. It's the beginning of an election year and the campaigns are already overwhelming. Luckily, The Nostalgia Killers are here to tell you exactly who you should vote for. The only candidate with gumption and integrity; who has America's best interest in mind; the only one that will stand up for what's right. Of course we're talking about President James Marshall. With your vote we can make a better tomorrow.
Over the Line, Smokey!. Do you wanna see what happens when you friend a stranger in the Alps? Then fix yourself a Caucasian and let's bowl. Sam "Spoiler Alert" Coughlin grabs a lane with us to discuss a shaggy dog story that inadvertently shaped and defined who we are as people. A world of White Russians, Nihilists, Shomer Shabbos, and The Gypsy Kings. Sometimes you bite the bar; sometimes the bar bites you.
