The original picture house was lost 3 weeks before production, so the crew converted their vacation rental into the exterior of the house using art direction, and found a nearby house in the process of being gutted and flipped to be the interior of the house. It took some creativity to match the two well enough to pass as one location.
The driving scenes were shot through the use of a DIY process trailer, made by towing the car with a U-Haul truck and building an extension platform for the cinematographer to stand on while the car was moving.
The hired Special Effects Tech quit for a higher paying gig less than a week before production so the director and art director used the DIY web series Film Riot to learn how to pull off the gore effects suitably enough themselves.
Though shot in 2013, the film is set in 2009. There are very subtle technological hints to this in the film.
Since the film was shot largely in order (aside from interiors), the Director, Christina Raia, made the actors share a small room during production in order to increase tension between them as shooting progressed, hoping it would come out on screen.
