A dream made of real characters
celik-663-68598016 March 2015
"Aziz" Character is very realistic according to me. All the other villagers are so, except the teacher who is from the Western part of Turkey. Use of the camera is excellent with very beautiful scenes of East Anatolia. However the teacher character is a bit forced/synthetic whatever you may call it. For example he speaks with a heavy Western Turkey accent all through the movie but starts to talk with a Zaza dialect of Kurdish during his first days in the school but his Turkish never changes which is a bit odd. Costumes are hundred percent right for the 60's. To sum up I deem it as a good Turkish movie made in recent times.

The name of the miracle, but really
nezih-oktar9 October 2015
Based on a true story was crafted a great film. The power of love in the name of humanity, nature, love of country and unique images accompanied by children. Talented players and a friendly and natural rendering of the theme with them. Disabled man's role is admirable. Artistic nature images from the corner of Eastern Anatolia watchable and catchy. If you are craving of 1960s in the frames of the movie will take you to that date, unless this particular corner of the world. I have to admit, director of this film is also a famous singer and musician but I'm not a big fan of him, but this movie is great. The makers and players need to celebrate.

Could be the best
kayamehmetfatih2 May 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I am the strict follower of Turkish and world cinema. In this film characters which are conducted their roles were chosed well. Especially main character Aziz, who is a disabled person , played great his role. In scenario there are some problems about spreading events to time. For example disabled character Aziz, turning back without disabilities to his village in seven years. It can be possible but it must spread in time when he educated by idealist teacher "Muallim". My other critic will be about prediction the next step of the film. Some scenes was not surprised to me as an audience. Generally film was a superB for Turkish cinema because of photograpy of scenes, sounds, characters, they were selected and thought very well. Congratulations to Mahsun KIRMIZIGUL for successful direction.

Magnificent, superb masterpiece of Turkish cinema !
acetiner6 January 2015
This is my first review on IMDb. I loved many films but in no case was so motivated to write a review ! I went to "Mucize" (Miracle) with little bits expectations but I was truly overwhelmed with this superb story of Mahsun Kirmizigul. I can not remember another movie where I have cried more then this! It is about people who loves other people without expectations. It is about courage of a man who only wants that children go to school and therefore he moves from his city to a place what you can call "the middle of nowhere"...It is about love what is defined as the key for reach your target...the film looks like real life. All of the characters have played very well but there is one person who have played his role SUPERB ! That is the crazy man : Aziz (Mert Turak) ! The character who plays te handicapped man with a truly amazing emotional bond with his horse. ( I have read somewhere that he has been lived 3 months with the horse to make this possible). He plays the character so perfect that I thought that he really was crazy / handicapped ! In the first half of the movie are so many good jokes that you can think it's a comedy. In the second half the film transforms in a emotional roller-coaster what's putting you in a story that is no more forgettable in your whole live ! A person, who is saying I own a heart, will cry ! There are also more Turkish films like, Eskiya (now in the top 250 of IMDb), babam ve oglum etc. what I can say they were very good but this peace of cinema from early singer Mahsun Kirmizigul is near PERFECT ! See it to believe it. 10 stars out of 10 !

A Brilliant Story about Life,Love and Compassion
jubsdu17 January 2018
The first thing I love about this movie is the storyline. It starts with a journey and takes to a different path.

The second thing I love about the movie is location and cinematography.

I wonder why this movie is not in the famous movie review blog's list.

It is a must-watch kind of movie.

Don't watch it without a roll of tissue paper on your side
lonephilosopher24 March 2015
I feel like I cannot appreciate this film enough, since I usually don't watch movies with some 'feel' in it. The story was beautifully told alongside with a truckload of tears and laughter, too. Turkey's cultures and people never ceased to amaze me, and that was why Mucize and other Mahsun Kirmizigul's works become on top of my favorite Turkish films. It is not surprising that I really admired Mert Turak's (Aziz) acting since it was so natural, yet dragged us to his world and forced us to know him much more than the villagers did. The plot may be a little flat, but it was really hard for me to pause for a while for a bathroom break. Kirmizigul really did a nice job here. The film taught us all not to simply ignore mentally-retarded people around us, nor to give them our pity. And it also taught us how hurtful some people's commentary can be. I did not notice it before until this film showed how painful it is to be living with prejudice. Like its title, Mucize (Miracle), really was a miracle, at least to me. I recommend this film not only for you to watch with friends and colleagues, but also with your families and classroom students.

Deeply Moving
AJ_McAninch8 November 2020
From the opening scene, we are in the hands of a skillful director and cinematographer who along with their talented, charming actors produce a beautiful, deeply moving film with good humor, kindness, gorgeous horses, and above all the power of love. The whole experience was a Saturday afternoon well spent. Strongly recommended movie.

Hopelessly crippled young man overcomes all obstacles
carvinzager22 April 2017
Warning: Spoilers
First, many thanks to all the Turkish and Zaza Kurdish reviewers who wrote out of their own experience in the cultures shown in the film. It's not easy to do that in one's second or third language. As someone who has worked very hard on his Turkish, I know this firsthand. My wife and I watched Mucize together with the subs; our ear for eastern rural pronunciation is weak, since we lived entirely in Izmir and Istanbul. The story is, as other have pointed out, both simple and profound. Simple because village life in the early 1960s (the time I first went to Turkey on military duty) was one of very little contact with the outside world. Profound in the fact that, yes, unconditional love does "cover a multitude of sins" and shortcomings. Turks and Kurds can be profoundly loving. They can also be deeply disrespectful and cruel toward the handicapped and less fortunate. As can Americans. I say this out of a years long personal friendship with a young man in his 30s who is, even today, as severely handicapped as Aziz. My greatest wish for a stronger and even more moving film is this: the true story here is not the love of the village or the schoolteacher, even though those elements were a huge part of the story. The real story is what takes place between Aziz and his wife in the minutes (years) between their leaving the village and their return. What challenges did they overcome together? HOW did she "love" him from the severely crippled and incoherent young man in the first two hours of the film, into the handsome, well-spoken, well-presented man we see in the final few minutes? THAT is the real miracle, and yet we are denied that story. THAT story is the story of how to restore and rebuild and redeem a life that, to all appearances, seems beyond hope. I hope the director will one day tell THAT story because it will be the one that moves viewers beyond admirable expressions of sympathy, and into action that will, like Aziz's wife, and Aziz himself, create real miracles.

Beautifully Shot, Good Acting, BUT Plot Loopholes Abound
charles-limcw27 September 2020
The first thing that captures the viewers would be the colourful and beautifully shot scenes of both the mountainside and small towns, including both the interiors and exteriors of buildings.

Acting was good albeit somewhat exaggerated in parts. By and large the entire cast did a good job and acted mostly believably and naturally.

The main drawback of this movie is the half-baked script with inexplicable plot loopholes, and unconvincing turn of events, bordering on the absurd.

Worst of all is the ridiculously, sappy and nonsensical ending which in seconds made laughable rubbish of the entire movie. It all but brought the entire effort into 'absurd-land' hook-line-and-sinker. What a shame.

If as much attention had been paid to the script and believability of the plot and events, as had been to the cinematography, this would have been an excellent movie.

The follow-up movie (which I don't know yet if I'd want to bother with) is supposed to 'explain' the ending absurdity. But the only way to explain mushy absurdity is with more mushy absurdity.

Just too bad those involved were well capable of the sugary but not the substance.

High potential wasted
cihankoru21 February 2016
Warning: Spoilers
First, let me list what I liked about this film. The setting is beautiful. Stark natural beauty of mountainous Eastern Turkey is breathtaking. Cinematography is also top notch. Local costumes, especially of the women are colorful, authentic and gorgeous. The subject matter, a city-bred grade school teacher is assigned to a remote mountain village where he assumes the self assigned task of rehabilitating a local spastic young man, has the potential of being developed into a powerful story. However, that is where my disappointment starts. The film blows the chance of being a masterpiece. The story development is choppy and full of unlikely events. At several points, I found myself asking 'but, why?' or 'how come?' and finding no explanation. The 'miracle' that is revealed at the end of the movie is probably the one plot element that is least believable. When the villagers wonder how the 'miracle' came about, the main character's explanation, 'I fell in love with my wife', just does not cut it. I admire the young Turkish director, Mahsun Kirmizigul, due to his productivity and improvement in his directing skills he has mustered over the years. Never the less, I believe he still has quite a distance to cover in order to perfect his artistry in story telling.

Worst of Kirmizigul!
alidur0718 January 2015
First of all, really good picture with all the nice scenery from the hills of Turkey, but hey, thats not enough to make a movie a good one, one that evolves around a certain story with deep analysis and natural development! The movie tells the story of Aziz, a handicapped man, who is unconditionally loved by the fellow villagers. The audience just couldn't sympathize with the dude! The teacher who is sent to the village by the government is another failure, a man with "all the good intentions in the world". It just felt so fake and unreal. At the end of the movie, it felt like Kirmizigul "again" asked us to cry, but come on now, this just didn't work with me since I was busy praying the pain would end as soon as possible.

Oh my God! Such a waste of time!

A simple plot. But the the delivery was masterclass. Average acting and directing. But its all that needed. Sometimes only emotions can run a movie. Hope you enjoy mucize.

The ACTING
bulbulshakib13 August 2021
Surely it's a great film, you've already seen some great reviews I'm sure. But the most amazing part of the film to me is acting of Mert Turak. While watching the film, so many times I was feeling like googling who this guy is and if he's actually crippled. What a talented actor he is!

I'm confused
DansLeNoir14 September 2020
Aziz looks up to the sky, shouts and echo effect, slow motion. Aziz shouts and echo effect, slow motion etc etc. Mahsun designed a cheap drama, but not as cheap as designed. It wasn't sincere to take every opportunity to add emotion. The end was too fast. I loved the emotion the movie brought about. But many things were clichés and compulsions.

In my opinion ...
tartik1220 January 2015
Film has been made in three seasons.Actors' hotels were three our away from village.Real actors were animals. When animals were ready set was beginning.

Best part we learned that from the end photo and sentences it is a real story.

Story is really different.May be that's a strange situation for European view. But that was a real of Turkey.I'm also Zaza(nationality).Villages in film are Zaza.I think everything was good without teeth.

Shouldn't forget friendship of animal(horse)....

I liked it as a movie, but the subject pissed me off
jack_o_hasanov_imdb23 August 2021
I enjoyed watching the movie back then.

I was so angry just watching the movie.

I really had a hard time understanding most things, maybe because I don't live in Turkey and especially because I don't live there.

I don't know, I liked it as a movie, but the subject pissed me off.

A popular movie and an uncritical director
enginnoyan-26-3394681 February 2015
It has good and bad sides. In terms of cinematography, the movie is well. But the story needs to be deepened. There are many things that should be mentioned to criticize the situations of Turkey's facts. Instead of stressing underestimated roles of women or Kurdish problem of Turkey, the popular director, in the past he was a singer, focuses a disable character in a sentimental perspective. The realistic point of view is weak. Even the songs that are played during the movie are not related with that region. Although it is sad that the story is true, the way that is told is not sufficient to feel because we watch all the factors that surrounds the main character so fast that is hard to grasp the real atmosphere of the region.
