Evzen Kolar, the Czech-born producer of The Boys & Girl From County Clare and City Of Industry, has died in California after a brief illness. He was 67.
Kolar was born in Moravia in the Czech Republic to a diplomat and got his first taste of entertainment as a child actor, before becoming an assistant director in Europe on commercials, television projects and features.
He lived in London in the late 1970s and produced fringe theatre before moving to the Us in 1979 where he built a name for himself as a production executive, notching up numerous line producer and producer credits.

Sony Pictures has set a release date for their live-action big screen adaptation of Masters of the Universe. I wish I could say I was excited about this movie because I'm a huge fan of the He-Man franchise. Unfortunately, McG (Charlie's Angels, Terminator: Salvation) is still attached to direct it. McG hasn't really directed any movie that's impressed me. He's a mediocre director that makes forgettable films and Master of the Universe shouldn't be a film that's forgettable!
The studio set a release date for September 20th, 2019, so we've still got awhile before we actually start seeing anything from the movie. When previously talking about his plan for the film, McG said:
“I think we want to honor the fan base, first and foremost. We also need to be cognizant of the incredible resonance of what Kevin Feige is doing with Marvel, and the balance of full-bodied entertainment. That it’s both credible and emotional,...

If you ever need proof that pop culture phenomena can come from the most unlikely places, just look to Fifty Shades of Grey. Originally published online as Twilight fan fiction called Master of the Universe, it became popular enough that writer E. L. James took it down and rewrote it as its own original, three-part story. With a new publisher on board, the books became monster hits around the world. Amazon has sold more copies of Fifty Shades of Grey in the UK than it has the entire Harry Potter series, which is kind of astonishing. And so here we are, only a few years after James startedher story of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele's complicated relationship and not only has the first Fifty Shades of Grey movie earned over $571 million at the global box office, but...

"Only simpletons believe the market is capable of learning," says Rainer Voss, long a top investment banker in Germany and now patiently, powerfully dishing for Marc Bauder's camera.
That statement's not exactly true, of course. As Voss demonstrates early on in the marathon interview comprising most of Master of the Universe, the market learns quickly, something like the way velociraptors learn to open doors: It will adapt to take every advantage that it can. It rewards the largest, most powerful clients and sticks it to governments, small businesses, and individual investors. (They always lose, Voss insists.)
What it can't learn, Voss argues, is to regulate itself, despite the post-bust promises of the banks that drove Greece, Spain, and — soon, he says &...

A review of tonight's "Mad Men" coming up just as soon as I park my white horse outside... "I know I am flawed, but I am offering you more than anyone else ever will." -Bob Benson Five years ago, after a long night at press tour, Matt Weiner and I sat down to discuss the third season premiere of "Mad Men," "Out of Town." It was a sprawling conversation, covering not just the episode, but past decisions about the show and even, near the end, his future hopes for it. As the series has gone on, Weiner has grown more close-mouthed about what's coming next, but this was far away from the hypothetical end of the series that he felt comfortable talking a little about what he envisioned for it: I would like to see them get to the end of this (decade), and that was my original intention when I wrote the pilot.

A couple of weeks ago Paul Smith asked rather or not Milestone would be better off away from DC.
Last week I addressed his question—but must now admit I did so in a drugged out haze. The drugs (some legal) affected my thought process and I’m afraid what I wrote was a result of such.
Or, it was an April Fool’s gag.
Either way here’s the non-drugged (much) and/or non-gag answer.
Paul, every partner in any partnership be it personal or professional will at some time or from time to time ask if they would be better off with someone else. Its human nature at it’s most pure.
I’ve asked that question, many times.
Regardless if business or personal relationship after I ask that, I ask the following, what’s my goal?
What would the goal be in leaving DC?
Better distribution?
Yeah,...

New York, Mar.29: Kellan Lutz has been apparently offered the role of He-Man in the movie 'Master of the Universe'.
On playing such roles, the American actor said that he loved Tarzan, He-Man and Hercules while growing up as he always had an active lifestyle and he love sports, PVR Pictures reported.
Lutz said that playing such characters is a huge challenge but he is always excited to take up such roles and he was just blessed to be able to fulfill a childhood dream of his.
The 29-year-old actor's upcoming project is 'Tarzan 3D' that retells the classic tale by Edgar Rice Burroughs in motion capture animation.

Berlin -- Making documentary films remains a challenging art with financial pressures unrelieved by the genre's current popularity, panelists at a Berlinale Efm industry debate heard Friday. 'The Act (and Art) of the Doc' moderated by Scott Roxborough, The Hollywood Reporter's Cologne-based correspondent, revealed the difficulties that even producers of the stature of Andre Singer, who worked on Oscar-nominated The Act of Killing, and German director Marc Bauder (Master of the Universe), face when financing their films. Most documentary films get made through "the sheer bloody-mindedness of the director," Singer noted. Singer is in Berlin to present his new project, which he is

Its portrayal of bad-behaving bankers sticks so slavishly to Jordan Belfort's memoir that Martin Scorsese's movie squanders its satiric ambitions
The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)
Director: Martin Scorsese
Entertainment grade: D
History grade: A–
The Wolf of Wall Street was originally the title of a 1929 Hollywood drama about financial-district wheeler dealers. About 60 years later, New York stock trader Jordan Belfort adopted it as his nickname and the title of his memoir.
Excess
The film begins at the heyday of brokerage house Stratton Oakmont, with its founder, Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio), indulging in a spot of dwarf-tossing. This establishes the sort of man he is: a tosser. It is true that Stratton Oakmont at least considered hiring a little person to toss, according to the real Belfort's memoir, though they did not actually do so, according to his business partner Danny Porush – fictionalised in the film as Donnie Azoff (Jonah Hill...

Sandra Kaudelka and Sebastian Metz have been named joint winners of the Berlinale’s third “Made in Germany” prize.
The €15,000 cash prize towards the development of a new feature will be shared equally between the two filmmakers who had presented projects at last year’s Perspektive Deutsches Kino.
At that time, both films were documentaries: Metz’s Metamorphosen was set in Russia, while Kaudelka’s Einzelkaempfer focused on cases of doping among East German athletes.
But Metz and Kudelka had each submitted fiction film treatments for consideration for the Made in Germany grant.
Metz’s project, entitled 274, which follows a man on his journey to Manila to end his life, had impressed the jury of film directors Andres Veiel and Frieder Schlaich and writer-producer Katja Eichinger by its “intensity” and “visual power”.
Meanwhile, Kaudelka’s Intershop centres on a love story in the setting of one of former East Germany’s hard currency Intershops.

Hollywood is now rife with cinematic re-tellings of those things that made childhood in the 1980s great. As grown ups, we can revel in watching Transformers, G.I. Joe and the A-Team (Smurfs too, but I digress…) on big screens backed by equally big budgets. What then happens when modern culture lauds the popularity of the Reagan era at the same time we see a proliferation of super hero flicks? Which intellectual property straddles both of these cash cow genres with ease?
Look no further than the distant planet of Eternia and its humble Prince Adam. In 1987, Golan-Globus attempted to bring He-Man to the silver screen with Dolph Lungren as the titular hero. This was met with the same success as the first attempt to bring The Punisher to the silver screen with…Dolph Lungren as The Punisher.

Vienna-based sales outfit Autlook has snapped up worldwide rights to Locarno Critics Week winner, Master of the Universe.
The deal was negotiated between Autlook’s theatrical director Salma Abdalla together with CEO Peter Jager and Master’s producer/director Marc Bauder.
German-made documentary Master Of The Universe gives an insight into the life of one of the top investment bankers in Germany.
Bauder comments: “I’m thrilled that Autlook will represent the film worldwide. During Locarno, there was immediate interest from sales agents and distributors and after winning the Critics Week we had offers on the table.
“Autlook’s incredible track record representing big theatrical docs and their passion for the film made our choice very easy.”
”Master Of The Universe finally gives a face and voice to the anonymous guild of bankers,” Abdalla commented, describing the film as giving “urgent and important access to the mindset of a ruling class”.
