The job of Narrowing Down the list is just perfect !!

Warning: Spoilers
***This Review contains spoilers***

As we saw the list getting narrowed down to 6 after the death of forensic expert Bret Partridge. This episode takes the list down to 5 with one more elimination who was indeed a viable suspect.

The episode starts off with the murder of Benjamin Marx( the guy whom Jane tried to bury alive in the "Red Rover" episode of 4th season). FBI Agent and RJ suspect Reede smith suspects Jane's hand which Jane rejects & Jane reveals to Lisbon that Marx is one of the 7 suspects in fake RJ suspect list which he created to deceive the person whomever interested in RJ case.

Jane reaches agent Hightower to know if there's anyone from FBI had closely watched Jane's movements during her term & it turns to be Bob Kirkland.

In the turn of events, Bob takes Jane & tries to torture to know the list and it is revealed Bob's brother Micheal Kirkland was killed by RJ making Bob hunting for RJ. Lisbon & Hightower rescue Jane and Bob is taken to prison by FBI agent Smith.

En route to prison,Smith kills Bob & is depicted as an RJ disciple with he & the driver sharing Blake's poem "Tiger tiger.. " which is supposed to be a code within RJ disciples.

What surprised the viewers was Bob Kirkland, he was no way shown as a guy hunting for RJ. Someone would've believed he is the RJ but at least as RJ disciple with his acts in Season 5.

Things are set just "the perfect" to nail the big man RJ & Viewers can expect a lot more "edge of the seat, thriller" in the coming episodes.

The Fake List
claudio_carvalho23 January 2022
When the air conditioning system of the CBI office is down, two Bob Kirkland's agents break into Patrick Jane's room and steel a fake list of possible identity of Red John from him. When one man of the list is murdered, Patrick confides Lisbon the secret and she decides to leave the other men under the police protection. The scum Richard Haibach refuses and is kidnapped by Kirkland that tortures him. Meanwhile Patrick looks for Madeleine Hightower, who is apparently dead in an accident, to get information how to find Kirkland, but he falls into a trap.

"Red Listed" is one of the best episodes of "The Mentalist", with Patrick Jane near to disclose the identity of Red John. Now his list is reduced to five names that makes easier his task. My vote is nine.

please don't let it end this way

Warning: Spoilers
In any detective novel, like any good magic trick, the audience willingly follows the miss-direction because they want the reveal at the end of the novel/trick. However, there is a tacit agreement that the writer doesn't change the novel at the end. He doesn't introduce the character of the murderer in the last chapter. This episode changed everything about the on-going duel between Red John and Patrick Jane. First the obvious; Bob Kirkland is murdered on the way to prison? This is not how Red John operates. How is the guard supposed to explain that Bob Kirkland attempted to escape from a locked van while traveling down the road? How is he supposed to explain the fact that he was 'forced to use deadly force' by shooting him 5 times in the back while he was hobbling down the street in handcuffs and shackles? How is he supposed to explain the lack of powder residue on his sleeve from his own gun? That's just lazy writing. And what about Red John? All of a sudden we are dealing not with the brilliant, homicidal maniac that has danced one step in front of Patrick Jane for five years but some great, tentacled cabal of FBI agents and police that greet each other with the pass phrase "Tyger Tyger" (not Tiger Tiger by the way)? Seriously, I know it was supposed to sound menacing but I half expected Reede and the driver to fist bump each other with a Whuzzzzup like a couple of frat boys.

Please, please, let's get back to the origins of the story. Please let the conflict between Jane and Red John not end with a pathetic whimper.
