Frannie guilts her ex into caring for her post auto accident.
suite9217 September 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Initial Tableau: Frannie has been in an auto accident. She broke an arm and a leg. She gets incomplete help from her sister and friends. After too much of that, she appeals to 'the devil'; that is, her ex, Devon. Devon contracted cancer some years back, and Frannie had cared for him for two years until he was cured. So she gives him a sufficient guilt trip...and he acquiesces. His new girlfriend is not exactly understanding.

Delineation of Conflicts: Frannie's friends do not trust Devon. Devon wants to get rid of the guilt debt. Devon's new girlfriend wants his fairly tenuous relationship with Frannie to end as soon as possible. Devon's feelings of gratitude are a bit limited, but Frannie's sense of being owed (big time) is even larger than she thought, especially when she expounds on all the things she did for him. Frannie and Devon get the opportunity to be honest with each other, which was not fun for them, but changes everything. As time progresses, Devon spends more, rather than less, time with Frannie. How is his new girlfriend going to take that?

Comments: I usually do not care for studies in awkwardness, and this is no exception. Still, the film has a beginning, a middle, and an end. The exposition of motivations was probably its strong point. At least this one made some sense.

Enjoyable.
LukeCustomer224 March 2019
Every single girl's greatest fear come true. Frannie is hurt in a car accident such that she has one leg broken and the opposite arm broken. Thus she has a very hard time taking care of herself. Sure she has a physical therapist coming by and a few helpers but she needs someone there 18-6. Who you going to call? Your ex. The description sounds odd. It is one reason I didn't watch it earlier. But there is a more detailed and reasonable explanation as to why she would choose her ex as opposed to say a nursing organization paid by her insurance. Devon, her ex, happens to have nothing to do. He just sold his company for nice profit and he can be available. He does, however, have a jealous girlfriend.

As would really happen, the two grow closer and Devon realizes a few things about why they broke up in the first place. Basically it was things going on with him and the process of helping her helps him to grow and learn a few things about himself that allows them to move forward. It can be slow in spots but overall entertaining.

Definitely Worth Seeing
Moviegoer1913 December 2014
Warning: Spoilers
...especially if you like "relationship movies." I really enjoyed this film. I found the writing and plot to be quite clever. The acting too was excellent. Often indie romance films don't quite make it. They're filled with stereotypes and wind up being boring and predictable. Not "Take Care." In this film, a woman is immobilized by a broken arm and leg and is determined to be independent. At the same time, she needs help just to get some of the basics of daily living taken care of. Her well meaning but insufferable sister is there but clearly doesn't want to be. Her good friend gets sidetracked by her own problems. Then Frannie, the MC, remembers that she took care of her ex for two years while he had cancer. She calls upon him to repay the favor. OK, what happens between them is somewhat predictable, but how they get there is fun to watch, and very engaging.

Good, but Not Great
tomnotarnold1 July 2018
Take Care is a fun little movie for when you're laid up in bed with a backache and want an easy film to watch. It's nothing we haven't seen before, but it certainly has it's moments. You have to be in the mood for it though. But there's something about it that makes it so I can't stop thinking about it. I'd like to watch it again, a second time, just to figure out what it is. And that's rare for me to want to watch ANY film twice. At any rate, if I do watch it again, it won't be for a long while. But maybe I'll feel like turning it on next time I have a backache or something.

That's what it is, it's a good backache movie! Ah, perhaps I should make that the title of my review. But alas, I will not.

A Cute light comedy is "Take Care"
dhaufrect-125 April 2015
"Take Care" is a very cute comedy film from 2014. It is currently available on NetFlix Instant Download Streaming. It is an independent film directed by Liz Tuccillo and also written by her as well. The actors include Leslie Bibb, Tracee Chimo, Kevin Curtis, Nadia Dajani, Betty Gilpin, Michael Gordere, Marin Ireland, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Thomas Sadoski, Michael Stahl-David and Tim Wu. The story is a romantic comedy. There is a young woman who is injured in a car accident, so she is unable to walk or care for herself. She convinces an ex boyfriend to assist her in her routine activities. He is currently with another woman, so there is a rift in relationships. It is a little slow, but I gave it 6 stars. Warning: Spoilers
I hate films like this. Why is everyone so willing to commit adultery, sleep around on their partners, etc.? Why? The girls is just selfish that is all. She has not been with this guy in two years and then all of a sudden she throws a wrench in his relationship and plays a guilt trip on him and they get back together! I give it 6 months. I thought it was pretty convenient that his new girl was rich and so did not need his money (newfound money). All of her paranoia was legit too. So in the end, these two deserve each other. Were they not just fiction, they would definitely end up on Maury or somewhere. I suppose, though, that many women love these kind of boy men, so easily manipulated.

This movie made me happy
MIamiReviewer14 May 2015
This movie is not rocket science, but it is a significant step above most of the romantic drivel out there. I really liked the two leads; at first, I wasn't sure I liked either, but they became very likable characters and had excellent chemistry. I appreciated that both characters' unlikeable- ness at the beginning made contextual sense in the plot, and that they didn't just have a 180 degree change of personality, but developed into softer people as their situations changed. The girlfriend was a bit one-dimensional, and it always annoys me when the romantic lead's significant other -- who is clearly destined to be given the boot -- is so despicable that there's no conceivable way the lead would actually be dating this person. But she was nonetheless entertaining, so not all bad. I also thought the next door neighbor was well scripted and acted. I would easily watch this again - fun movie.

Really crazy start
Jackbv12322 January 2024
This movie goes for the humor with absolutely crazy situations early on. Insane. Like a woman nursing a broken leg and arm sliding her way to her neighbor's door to complain about his loud music and then asking him to make her a sandwich, which he does. When I say sliding, I mean just that - flat on her back pushing with her one good leg. He has already carried this complete stranger up 4 blights of stairs on his back. If you can get past craziness which at times is cringeworthy, it get's better after what seemed like a very long part of the movie.

I've never seen a premise like this where she guilts her ex boyfriend into taking care of her indefinitely. And he has a beautiful current girlfriend who fits the arm candy mold. At times she seems jealous, but rightfully so given circumstances and puts up with it pretty well for the most part.

I honestly wasn't sure who was going to end up with whom other than what you would expect from this type of movie. The reason Devon agrees to this weird situation isn't obvious at first but before long the mutual backstory of Frannie and Devon explains it. So I give it points for an interesting story.

The acting is OK as is the dialogue. At times Frannie is disgusting and a total loser, but she becomes almost likeable by the end.

Thumbs Up
dreyestud17 March 2014
I caught the premier of this movie at SxSW. I had zero expectations because it was a premier. I liked this movie. I really liked it. I got drawn into the characters early on and was entertained throughout. It's a light movie, a great date movie, no serious world issues are turned over or discovered. It's a light comedy with some drama. Really good acting by Bibb, Sadowski and the rest of the cast. I don't want to overstate it. Perhaps my enjoyment came because I had no expectations of the movie. In fact, from the description I'd read about it I expected a heavy drama. That was not the case. The premise is not new but it's an interesting angle. I don't want to give any of the plot away because the surprise is the most fun. The story is well crafted by the writer. Well worth a watch.

Fresh, funny, and unexpected
tiffanyyatesmartin16 December 2014
As one other reviewer said, I was expecting a more heavily emotional plot line from the description, but should have known that this movie would be as fun, clever and cute as it is, since it was penned (and directed) by Liz Tuccillo, who writes about relationships better than just about anyone. Great chemistry between leads Bibb and Sadoski--in fact, all the actors do a great job. This story is like a microcosm of a relationship--the entire film takes place mostly in Frannie's (Bibb) claustrophobic NYC fourth-floor walk-up, a perfect metaphor for how trapped she is after a car accident keeps her bedridden for weeks. The best things about the film: the unexpected freshness of the character development and plot, the charm of the leads, the whip-crack dialogue. As a couple of reviewers said, not a weighty or convoluted story, but a really lovely examination of human nature and the nature of love. I smiled most of the way through, laughed out loud a lot, and was left thinking about the movie after it finished

Surprisingly good!
guisreis24 January 2016
This is a surprisingly good romantic comedy B-movie! Without famous actors, visual effects and everything else, it is quite good. Why? Because it has a very good screenplay, what seems to become less and less usual in Hollywood. It follows the typical and predictable path: two people have a troublesome relationship in the beginning but it changes during the story until they become lovers/friends. Though, it is clever in its choices, is somewhat original in putting the main characters as ex-boyfriend and girlfriend, and has quite good dialogs, avoiding clichés and obvious details. I recommend everybody to put skepticism aside and give this film a chance. It is good.

I love Take Care!
countessedenofyore2 September 2015
This film is underrated! I've watched it at least 10 times and I discover a new part of a scene each time. I wish the running time was a little longer. Jodi annoys me...it's her face! Read the production notes on the making of Take Care. There were some major production obstacles for this small set. I love Leslie Bibb after seeing this film. She's adorable, yet not afraid to look the part nd has great timing. Great acting, great chemistry with the exes. It is a film to watch over and over. Always puts me in a better mood. This is my first review and I have to say this is a film that just resonates. Love the neighbor, sister is so typical, right? Acting is fluid and the only character that isn't believable is Jodi. Seriously, she is so annoying.

Surprised by this Romance
jennifergale-6393031 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I rather enjoyed this movie. I am a sucker for romance, however expectations were quite low when I chose this. It didn't belabor the tropes I so often see in this type of movie. The annoying neighbor has a heart, but doesn't become the romantic interest.

The girlfriend of the ex isn't horrible. Characters have surprising depth instead of black and white caricatures. Love IS messy. I found this movie surprisingly sweet and believable. I could see this occurring, could feel this happening with the performances.

I would highly recommend. Something that resonates, being so vulnerable with someone else, is the biggest risk of all.

Very Refreshing!
amberbundick27 July 2015
I thought this movie was adorable. There are so many predictable romantic comedies out there now a days, that it was nice to watch a movie that was not completely what I expected! I've always loved Leslie Bibb. She doesn't disappoint. The acting was wonderful, and I surprisingly didn't like the characters right away. I did however grow to love them by the end. The two leads were perfect and their chemistry was undeniable. I give it a 9 only because I'm not a fan of cheating without any repercussions or a guilty conscience, but I loved it nonetheless and I definitely recommend watching it if you are looking for something light, sweet, and funny.

Very sweet
fireworksness4 April 2015
My grandmother chose this movie at random on Netflix and it caught my attention in the first few minutes, I usually ignore whatever movies she had playing in the background by we both loved it.

This movie started out slow but gradually became sweeter and sweeter and I genuinely wanted to know what would happen to each character. I am so pleased with the dialogue and how it ended and if you need a feel-good movie, this is the one for you.

The leading man is very attractive and has a wonderful smile that brightened up my TV screen and I wish I could see more of him on my TV!

It was well done and I am curious as to why there is not more reviews, comments and information about this film online.

I would highly recommend.
