The Life of Riley
wes-connors2 January 2016
In the opening minutes, attractive brunette Jacqueline MacInnes Wood (as Cathy) leaves her car and enters a house. Very quickly, we learn there is a dead woman inside. Also quickly, the police lead Ms. Wood out of the house. "I did it," she confesses, "I killed her." The opening credits end… Two weeks earlier, in a small Vermont town, we meet a much happier Wood. A newlywed, she is moving into a nice new home, with young teenage son Jacob Horsley (as Billy). He is from a previous, unhappy marriage. Wood's uber-sexy groom Shawn Roberts (as Riley Coulter) is out of town on a business trip. A sales representative, according to his business card, Mr. Roberts is not often home...

Wood befriends blonde neighbor Zoie Palmer (as Tora Weeks), who brings her a house-warming pie. Yum. They go shopping. Roberts surprises Wood by appearing, unannounced, in a local jewelry shop. He claims to be buying Wood a surprise gift. Wood continues to find life with Roberts suspiciously strange. While her husband provides logical explanations, we're pretty sure something isn't quite right. We already know there is going to be an arrest. For another thing, the movie is titled "Her Husband's Betrayal". He also looks more like a professional model than whatever he's supposed to be doing for as a "sales representative." Roberts doesn't seem so at first, but he turns out to be perfectly cast...

The original plot for this TV movie, by Russ Chasney, is quite good. Everything hearkens back to a past event, cleverly, and there are some nice touches. However, the story falls apart around one of Wood's stronger scenes, with a helpful truck driver (Gene Mack). Otherwise, she dons a baseball cap, wears stunning make-up, and runs around the country like she's "Batgirl". Wood seems too young and beautiful for her role. Sympathetic officer Mark Bendavid (as Dan Gresham) should have been made stronger, perhaps appearing prominently in the opening (a cheat). We don't know where "Billy" is for much of the time and it's surprising to see Wood risk his life by befriending a homeless stranger.

**** Her Husband's Betrayal (2013-08-02) Ron Oliver ~ Jacqueline MacInnes Wood, Shawn Roberts, Marc Bendavid, Zoie Palmer

Not very well written

Warning: Spoilers
A little irritating is how I felt when watching this woman's journey to get back her boy from her new hubby. He has many identities and threatens to kill her boy. He asks her to take the blame for a woman he murdered. She escapes from the cops after confessing and with a little help from her sweet looking cop and tries to solve things on her own.

When the explanation comes it does not make sense. How would all these messy murders mesh with the insurance scam?

A little below the Lifetime thriller standard.

(2013) Her Husband's Betrayal MYSTERY THRILLER

Made-for-TV now available for rental which upon watching this, is like something coming out of the 'Hallmark' channel, centering on a particular situation. It stars Jacqueline MacInnes Wood as she plays Cathy Coulter, a proud wife of Riley Coulter (Shawn Roberts), except that, he may not be what he appears to be, as he attempts to blackmail her by kidnapping her son from her first marriage. It almost borderlines to soap opera territory, but it's still interesting to say the least which, we find later has something to do with life insurance policies.

Pretty bad movie
geoffox-766-41846721 March 2014
Just saw this and thought it was so bad. Leading lady, Jacqueine Maciness Wood is awful. Over dramatic and quite boring to watch. And the story is stupid with this dame running around with a gun threatening all around her and never gets caught. That's the movies for you. She not only escapes a police station loaded with cops but threatens one cop, well played by Boomer Phillips, to get out of the way. She has the gun pointed right at him. Seems she's running around trying to find her child supposedly kidnapped by her husband, played by Shawn Roberts.

The men fare better in this tripe than the women. It is interesting watching this actress work. All about herself. She doesn't listen to other actors. If she got rid of all the face make-up, maybe there'd be a performance somewhere.

I kept hoping she'd get killed or disappear. Walking around looking like some smart b..ch always invading homes of others and nobody stops her. Goes through people's files, mail, you name it. We all want her gone, she's that bad. No warmth or feelings. One emotion - boring.

Watched this again and still unimpressed with Wood. Wood is wooden. You want someone to catch her and put her away. Running around in a baseball cap as disguise. I was hoping when she finds her son, the son would want her to stay away from him.

I turned the film off near the end when she shot the other woman. Nobody stops her although I cheered when the other woman hit her in the face with the gun and knocked her down the stairs. Yeah, for once she loses.

Out of the Box...for Woods
stacypetty-842485 July 2023
I can't stand reading reviews that offer a reader the entire movie plot. Congratulations if you are this person. You have managed to ruin the entire film for a potential viewer. I was really saddened to see the remarks about Jacqueline Macinnes Wood and her acting or lack there of. I have to say I don't feel the same sediment. I think this role was quite a change from her role on the Bold & Beautiful as Steffi Forrester. She did a great job of portraying a woman scorned and a mother that would go to the ends of the earth to find her child. Alot of you were commenting about her make-up being too perfect as she was running around everywhere. I don't think it was overdone. She is very fair to begin with and has very porcelain like skin. (If you remember the briefcase and the pictures of the other women you should recall they were all very beautiful, not frumpy or plain Janes if you will.) I believe she did a great job considering how fast the film revealed it's plot. I didn't care for Riley Coulter, Carl Higgins, or whoever his character was. He didn't capture a man that could attract that many women. . I didn't think it was the worst movie ever but I do believe it's one of the same plot lines that LMN uses over & over. The couple is happy at the beginning, something goes awry, someone plays the detective, they have a good/bad guy scene at the end, and the bad person gets shot, and either dies or is taken in to police custody. Just saying.

Exciting Story

I thought that this movie was kinda exciting, not quite the acidic mouthful another person shot down the movie with disdain. I do not generally review TV movies, but I liked this one.

The Mysterious Fire of Fitchburg
lavatch14 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
In "Her Husband's Betrayal," a bigamist is taking out life insurance policies on his stable of wives. After murdering the wives, he collects on the insurance. But the man who goes by the name of Riley Coulter has met his match with his latest wife, Cathy, who refuses to sign the life insurance policy, then seeks to expose him as a fraud.

The filmmakers were successful in keeping up a fast pace, developing lively dialogue, and presenting a set of interesting secondary characters. My favorite was a wise truck driver who assisted Cathy in her time of need. In the understated scene, the wise trucker recognized that the catch is in place on gun she is holding, rendering it ineffective as she is pretending to threaten him, He then instructs her on its proper use!

The unsung hero of the film is the kind cop Dan Gresham, who never believes the official story that Cathy killed one of her husband's ex-wives. With the assistance of Cathy, Gresham slowly pieces together evidence pointing to Riley's exploitation of women.

The actress playing the role of Cathy was terrific. We saw her resolve develop to free her son Billy from the clutches of Riley (a.k.a., Carl Higgins). Carl was the son of an insurance scammer, who taught his boy the tricks of the trade. After a tragic fire in a school in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, Carl used the names of the diseased as his aliases. He then preyed upon lonely, single women to tie the knot and disposed of them with the expectation of collecting on the insurance.

Early in the film, Cathy finds a new friend in her neighbor Torah. But something seems fishy about Torah when she deletes a set of photos from Cathy's camera. It will not be until the closing scene when we learn the truth about Torah. In that climactic moment, the film's major theme is fulfilled in the courage displayed by a mother who expresses the undying love of her child through her heroic actions.

Cant find a copy of Her Husband's Betrayal. Is there a copy I can hire
edmills11 April 2014
I hope that sometime you can release a copy of the above into Western Australia for hire. The downloads in my district are woeful, all the outlets here are not taking this movie. Cant you find say Amazon taking a chance to distribute this movie. There seems to be a reasonable chance that this being her 5th movie, there would be some interest in her work. As far as I am concerned her character in Bold and the Beautiful TV series is portrayed as a much better actor than any of the other principle actors which is why I am interested in whether she can get into features rather than have the rubbish that is B and B. Her words can work without the stupid actions, and without having to bow down to the lead Lady who is so bad she deserves to stay in the show. JaquiMac should have better stuff than this to get where she deserves.
