Heaven Can't Wait
Shane318213 January 2014
After being kicked out of the bunker, Castiel has started working at a Gas-n-Sip just to get by, while Dean and Sam are with Kevin at the bunker working to translate the tablet. Then Dean gets a call from Castiel about a possible case in his area, and thus we have our episode.

This episode didn't have a while lot to do with Bartholomew or Metatron, it was more of just a case episode with Dean and Castiel, and honestly I think it's one of the best episodes we've had so far this season.

One of the things I was truly worried about was that Castiel would be portrayed as this bumbling idiot with no clue how humanity works, and in a way that is true, but Castiel is not an idiot, and I'm very glad he was not portrayed as one. Sure, he fumbles with certain things in the store that he is not well acquainted with, and has some trouble communicating like a normal human would, but that is fairly consistent with Castiel's character.

In my personal opinion, after the horrifically portrayed love-interest and characters of "I'm No Angel" earlier in the season, it was refreshing to have Castiel back to his usual self. I think Robert Berens, the writer of this episode, did a good job of writing Castiel.

Dean and Castiel are not the only focus in this episode. There is a large part of it that focuses on Sam, Kevin, and Crowley back at the bunker. This is where things start to connect with the story line, regarding angels and Metatron.

A lot of the joy of this episode comes with not knowing what will happen next. There were a few times I ended up laughing, and there were a few touching moments as well. Also the pacing was very well done. After episodes like Dog Dean Afternoon and Slumber Party, which had pacing all over the place, it was great to watch an episode that was simple but also kept my attention from start to finish. The fact that they were able to have an entire case episode, as well as being able to focus on everyone at the bunker and move that plot along, all while not rushing or jumping all over the place, impressed me very much.

Great episode! I'd give it a 8/10.

Nothing but a heartache
janedoe53007 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This is not a horrible episode, but not that good either. The MOTW storyline is pretty intriguing, and keep us guessing along at what kinda creature may be doing this, but it's not really thrilling in the same way the very best MOTW episodes are. Castiel finding dignity in what most people would consider a lousy job is very in character and I found it quite a refreshing social commentary of sorts, and in general his 'dealing with humanité' story arc is the best part of the episode. EXCEPT for the "plot twist" about him ending up as a babysitter when he thought he was going on a date. Castiel is so socially awkward and unaware that the writers easily could have made her intentions clear, and yet have Castiel misunderstand because of his ignorance to human behaviour, which I actually think would have been more heartbreaking in the end. Yet they go with her SO obviously asking him out, because they really want us to believe she is, so they can come back and kick us in the crotch later on, but it's completely unbelieveable. No one in their right mind would just forget to mention that they want him to babysit so they can go on a date with someone else, I find it kinda insulting to our intelligence. Other than that I don't see big problems in either writing or directing, it's just not that exciting of an episode. 7/10

It is overstuffed but really nice Cas-Dean stuff
CubsandCulture14 September 2020
The Sam, Kevin side of the episode should have been split off into its own episode. As it stands now it gets in the way of the re-union episode with Cas as well as developing Rit Zien concept a bit more. The tone of the two stories also don't gel fully-the Cas story is more serious, character than the plotty cat and mouse game Crowley is playing. With that being said it was nice to have a Cas focused episode and the human!Cas continues to be engaging; a part of me wish they left Cas human and continue to develop the humanness of the character. Collins is really good at this endearing naivety that human!Cas has.

"This is Crowley, your king....I've been put on hold"
skjoe-114 November 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Supernatural returns with a very story driven episode, with the focus here mainly on characters, more precisely, Castiel and Crowley. There is a sort of "monster-of-the-week" sub- plot but its only minor in comparison to Castiel's character development. The episode starts with a man, on the verge of killing himself, interrupted by a stranger, who touches him and makes him explode. Castiel, who now works as a sales assistant, discovers the case and informs Dean. On the other side we have Sam and Kevin, trying to decipher an ancient language and decide to ask Crowley for help. In return Crowley asks for a phone call to Abaddon. Great to see Castiel getting a good bit of screen time, trying to adjust to his human life. There is something quite humorous but tragic in Castiel, watching him try to use the Slurpee machine or even getting a date. Dean drags Castiel on with him for the hunt, even though Cas has doubts Dean reckons he can be useful. The monster for this episode is a form of an angel, a healer. Who is trying to cure humans sorrow by ending there lives. Its not so much about the hunt for this creature, mainly it gives Cas a lot of confusion. Does he want to continue being human, ignoring Heaven. Or does he want to fix what Metatron did and help the angels. A part of me wants to see Cas being human, partly because its awkwardly funny and partly because its interesting how a former angel can adapt to this life. However I believe it will be the later, maybe even regaining his powers, as now he knows he is not much use, to anyone. Crowley gets a fair share of screen time too, as Sam and Kevin need his help translating a forgotten language. Its hard to read Crowley, maybe its what makes him a great character. Does he have genuine human feelings coming back, or is it just because Abaddon is slowly taking over as the big bad. Or is it all a game to help his escape. The feel of Supernatural now is a big regime change. Heaven is on lock down with Earth full of Angels and more chaos than before. Hell is without its king, who is of course very evil, but had order and made it work. Now Abaddon simply wants to burn the Earth and everyone in it. Will the Winchesters have to get Crowley back on his throne, or will Crowley start to get human emotions. Will Castiel want to help his fallen brothers and return to his prime, or will he want to stay with his human side and have a "normal life"? Overall a decent story driven episode with a lot of emphasis on character progression :-)

New Angel Sect
danajs248 September 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I really liked this one. I liked the new angel sect that was introduced, and while I thought it would be like an assassin angel, for some reason that it was a medic angel was even better. The actor had a disturbing flesh colored beard however, which I was not a fan of. Poor Cas again however. The jerk manager mom had to go on a date and lead him on, and that baby seemed much too young for her to be out frolicking with someone. But I could be just bitter it wasn't Cas. Seeing Cas as a human hasn't lost it's zeal for me, and I hope he does this all season long going through the struggles of being mortal. Again we have more duh moments where Sam should be concerned that he's blacking out, or that Dean keeps making light of it.

Humanity sucks
blackmagpie-6236827 May 2018
An episode that seems determined to show us the weaker sides of fallen Castiel and captive Crowley and how each one of them deals with becoming human. Crowley is seeking it and Castiel rejects it. I can't help but feel sympathy for the monster they hunt, himself being a victim of falling from heaven and trying to deal with humanity. Overall and OK story, not a fan of Castiel (or Misha Collins) in this one at all but the episode is most definitely saved by Crowely (and Mark Sheppard who brings a lot more to his role).

Another monster hunt!
mm-3914 November 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Another monster hunt. Season nine has another monster hunt which involves Cass. A side story of Cass's human life is redundant. I wonder if Cass's boss is something more than the character actually is? The Crowley side story reveals another dead end unless Crowley's lying? I believe Crowley is trying to become human! Either Crowley is trying to con the brothers in order to escape or wants to be a member of the Winchester group? Not a memorable episode but needs to be watched. Heaven Can't Wait is a segue episode which bridges the sub-plots into the season nine's overall story line. I wish they would bring Dick Roman back! Six out of ten.

Pointless ep with major issues
shwetafabm29 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
First why would the angels Cass or Zeke not know the language, ok maybe we can believe that Metatron wrote it in a way that angels would not know but why would a demon from the 15th century know more than angels... Just no I like Cass but i am sick of him a bit, his eps seem the most forced storywise, that pointless repear sleeping with him and this woman who is the weirdest woman on earth, gives control of her baby to a random man and says you are special for no reason, so uncomfortably forced. I didn't really like the Crowley thing but its interesting Motw was actually pretty good but i am not liking the forced dumb plot of the ep
