Actor Stephen Amell headlined the superhero show Arrow, where he played the vigilante Oliver Queen. The CW show lasted eight seasons and was also responsible for kickstarting the Arrowverse, which included shows like The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and Supergirl. Amell hung up his bow and quiver in 2020.
Before he became Green Arrow, Amell had a few roles on TV shows. He was also reportedly an audience member on Jimmy Kimmel Live! He revealed the fact when he returned to the show, this time as a guest. He also said that he was given the stink-eye by security because he was using his phone in the studio while he was waiting for a call from his agent.

Sasha Calle, who debuted as Supergirl in The Flash, recently shared her emotions about being replaced in the role. Despite signing a multi-film deal, the change in leadership at DC Studios led to a new casting direction, with Milly Alcock taking over as Kara Zor-El.
Calle expressed her deep love for the character, saying, “I was so deeply in love with that role,” and described her exit as both heartbreaking and confusing. What started as a promise of multiple films turned into just one appearance, making her departure particularly painful.
Calle’s brief time as Supergirl was marked by both studio changes and outside pressures. The Flash struggled with Ezra Miller’s legal troubles and disappointing box office results, making her debut even more challenging.
During this tough time, Calle found support in her friendship with Leslie Grace, who faced her own setback when Warner Bros. Discovery canceled the Batgirl project.

Sasha Calle, who made her first appearance as Supergirl in the film ‘The Flash’, recently shared her feelings about being replaced in the role.
Despite initially signing a multi-film deal, the transition of leadership at DC Studios to James Gunn and Peter Safran saw a new casting direction, with Milly Alcock now set to don the cape as Kara Zor-El.

HBO returns to the world of Stephen King’s horror classic It with the nine episode prequel series “Welcome to Derry,” and Entertainment Weekly shares the first images today.
Andy Muschietti & Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs are on board the Pennywise prequel project from Warner Bros. Television, with Muschietti set to direct several episodes.
“Welcome to Derry” will kick off its story in 1962 in the time leading up to the events of It: Chapter One (2017). The series is also said to include the origin story of Pennywise the Clown.
“This is a book we love a lot, and we felt that there was still a lot of story to be covered,” Andy and Barbara Muschietti tell EW. “It’s so rich with characters and events, we thought we would do justice to the book and the fans by going back into this world.”

Sasha Calle made her debut as Supergirl in last year's The Flash, but what should have been a joyous introduction to a major superhero franchise was soured by a number of factors, including co-star Ezra Miller's legal troubles, the movie's underperformance at the box office, and the fact that the Dceu was on its last legs.
When James Gunn and Peter Safran took over as co-heads of the newly-implemented DC Studios, the search began for another actress to play Kara Zor-El in the Dcu, with House of the Dragon star Milly Alcock ultimately taking over as our new big-screen Girl of Steel.
While speaking to THR about her next project, Joe Carnahan's Rip, Calle opened up about the situation for the first time, revealing that she did sign a multi-film deal when she initially accepted the role.

Even when the world is overflowing with superhero stories, there’s a ton of room for creators to explore new ideas. Audiences today are getting pickier, and they want characters with depth and plots that truly make them wonder. One of the most refreshing prospects out there is Tom Cavanagh’s pitch for a Reverse-Flash spin-off.

It’s a concept that mixes the messiness of love with the fast-paced drama of super-speed. Given how well The Penguin, a crime drama that dives into the darker sides of Gotham, it feels like the perfect time for James Gunn to jump on Cavanagh’s intriguing vision because the viewers seriously need more novel stories that break the mold.

Sasha Calle was filled with conflicting emotions in the summer of 2023.
On one hand, she was proudly promoting her feature film debut as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl in Andy Muschietti’s The Flash. However, she was the only castmember facing the press at the time, as lead actor, Ezra Miller, was mired in legal controversy throughout the prolonged lead-up to June’s release. On top of that, James Gunn and Peter Safran took the reins at DC Studios in October 2022, announcing a new slate of Dcu projects in January 2023, with only a select number of connections to the roller-coaster ride that was the former Dceu. Thus, Calle’s future as the Kryptonian was in doubt before it even had a chance to lift off onscreen.
So, Calle had to sidestep questions about Miller, often pivoting to how much she genuinely revered her stunt team, while also expressing optimism at the future,...

Comic book movies are facing an interesting moment. Before the pandemic hit in 2020, nothing seemed to guarantee a box office hit more than putting a Marvel logo in front of a movie. Even DC had $1 billion hits with "Aqauaman" and "Joker" in and amongst the chaos of trying to figure out the DC Extended Universe. Sony Pictures also found a potential goldmine within the larger "Spider-Man" franchise with the release of 2018's "Venom." That movie made a shocking $856 million worldwide and paved the way for further spin-offs centered on Spidey side characters. The whole experiment was kind of a disaster, but among the rubble of that disaster is a potential lesson for those in charge of the future of superhero cinema.

DC Studios CEO James Gunn Responds To Fan Who Asks Why New Dcu Doesn't Include Aquaman And The Flash
DC Studios' plans to reboot the Dceu as the Dcu are still proving somewhat confusing for fans. It's a fresh start with a new Superman in a completely different world, but Creature Commands has all the hallmarks of a sequel to The Suicide Squad.
Then, there's the fact we're getting Peacemaker season 2...even though season 1 is no longer in continuity. Except it kind of is. Maybe. As reboots go, it's perhaps not the completely clean break this franchise desperately needed.
While Superman will feature B-List superheroes like Mister Terrific and Hawkgirl, many fans remain eager to learn what's happening with the likes of Aquaman and The Flash.
They're obviously getting recast (Gunn may or may not have praised The Flash to appease Warner Bros. higher-ups but can surely see it would be a bad move to welcome Ezra Miller back as Barry Allen), and the filmmaker addressed their absence during...

Sheldon Cooper wasn’t just another quirky genius on The Big Bang Theory. Sure, he strutted around with intellectual arrogance, a militant schedule, and endless rules lists. But beneath those layers of sarcasm and nerdy superiority, you have to wonder: Was it all a cover-up for his deeper feelings? Sheldon always claimed, “I’m not crazy; my mother had me tested.” But as fans watched him grow from the socially awkward physicist to someone capable of love, doubt crept in—was Sheldon hiding more than his emotions?
Sheldon wasn’t your average prodigy; he started college at 11, earned his PhD by 16, and moved to California to prove string theory at Caltech. Even with all that genius, he let Leonard Hofstadter become his roommate because he didn’t have enough money to swing it solo. It turns...

Sony Pictures billed “Venom: The Last Dance” as the final chapter in Tom Hardy’s alien-symbiote-buddy-comedy franchise. But with its $51 million domestic opening weekend — 44% and 55% lower than the previous two installments — the movie also signifies the continued twilight of superhero cinema as the dominant force at the box office.
Superhero movies used to be an indispensable revenue driver for the film industry. In 2018 and 2019, the average global gross for superhero fare was more than $1 billion. This year, it’s half that, even with the record-breaking success of “Deadpool & Wolverine.” In fact, the Ryan Reynolds-Hugh Jackman vehicle is the only comic book movie that could qualify as a hit since “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” debuted in June 2023. Since then, the genre has suffered an extraordinary box office drought. Film after film, from “The Flash” to “The Marvels” to “Madame Web,” opened to, at best, a shrug — and, at worst,...

Things are not looking good for Tom Hardy starrer Venom: The Last Dance at the box office in North America. So ends another comic book movie trilogy, but what is it about the number three that the genre can’t get right? Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy and Fox’s original X-Men saga both bowed out on bum notes, while Blade: Trinity staked the franchise dead. Even The Dark Knight Rises is the black sheep of Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy. It’s not that there haven’t been some great threequels, but Venom: The Last Dance is not the exception that proves the rule.
While there were once grand plans for Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, it feels like the Ssu is limping toward an inevitable end, like the Dceu releasing The Flash and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom simply because it had to. Although Ruben Fleischer’s Venom got the franchise off to a flying start in 2018, a little bit of our symbiote spirit has broken off with each entry.

Grant Gustin’s The Flash series is considered among the best live-action iterations of the Scarlet Speedster. Although the series’ quality took a nosedive in the concluding seasons, Gustin received widespread praise for his performance. Later, Ezra Miller also played a version of Flash in the Dceu films, but they could not leave a significant impact on the fans.

Even financially, Grant Gustin had a far better run than Miller’s. With only a single solo film in their hand, Ezra Miller could not rake in a massive amount. On the other hand, playing the Speedster across 9 seasons for a decade made Gustin a standout performer among his other CW co-stars.

With the recent (extremely disappointing) release of "Joker: Folie a Deux," there is nothing standing between the old DC and the new DC Universe, which kicks off later this year when the animated "Creature Commandos" arrives on Max. Then DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran's plans kick into high gear next summer when Gunn's new "Superman" movie hits theaters. What are those plans, exactly? An ever-growing list of movies and TV shows has already been confirmed, and put simply, the DC Universe is getting a reboot. Unfortunately, there is still some confusion for the time being.
The easiest thing would be for Warner Bros. and DC Studios to say "we're starting over completely fresh. Nothing from the former Dceu counts, but everything going forward does." Unfortunately, it's not so simple. Certain projects that were in the works before are going to be ushered in as part of the future.

Christopher Nolan is being linked with umpteen different films at the moment – perhaps it’s best if we rule some of them out.
Speculation has been rife in the last few weeks as to just what Oscar-winning director Christopher Nolan’s next film is going to be. Universal Pictures is distributing the film, and it has a 2026 release. But what on earth is it?
Is it a vampire movie? Is it a sort-of remake of Blue Thunder? Could it be an espionage film? With each day comes a different rumour, and with that in mind, we’ve decided to do something useful. Instead of speculating as to what Nolan’s new movie is, we’ve managed to 100% rule out some projects that he won’t be taking on.

Before the Dceu and Dcu, there was the Arrowverse, a vast cinematic universe that showcased both major and minor characters from DC Comics.
While the Arrowverse often received mixed reviews due to its campy tone and concerns about the quality of its shows, it remains a significant part of DC’s history. It also delivered some of the best portrayals of Flash (Grant Gustin) and Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) in television history.
The characters have had limited on-screen interactions compared to others, so they never really had a chance to measure their powers—or speeds. In the comics, Flash is generally faster than Superman, winning most of their races.
But what about the Arrowverse? To find out, we turned to some unexpected sources.

Before we had Dceu and Dcu, we had Arrowverse a massive cinematic universe featuring major and minor characters from DC Comics. Arrowverse generally received mixed reviews due to its somewhat campy tone and perceived lack of quality when it comes to its shows.
Nevertheless, it’s still an important part of DC’s history and it gave us some of the best portrayals of Flash (Grant Gustin) and Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) in TV history.

Even with certain terms being met amid last year’s SAG-AFTRA strike, the threat of artificial intelligence in the business is still prevalent, especially with loopholes and tricky terminology. And Nicolas Cage has been one of the biggest skeptics on the use of AI in Hollywood, now warning those who will enter the business that it’s something they’re going to have to face head on.
Appearing at this year’s Newport Beach Film Festival, Nicolas Cage took time to call out AI, particularly a form dubbed Ebdr, or an employment-based digital replica. In short, AI can be (used with the performer’s participation) to alleviate workload and production costs. Going through this on The Flash, Cage has enough experience to know that it’s going to do more harm than good to the new generation of actors.

Freaky and Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon was supposed to be heading into production on Scream 7 – but that project turned out to be so troubled, he had to activate his ejector seat and get out of there. While he has since been replaced on Scream 7 by Kevin Williamson, he has been busy lining up other genre projects, signing on to direct the werewolf thriller Big Bad and the “fast-paced thriller” Drop. Coming our way from Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes, the production company team that has previously brought us the Purge franchise, Drop moved forward first, and is so far along that a teaser trailer was even show at the New York Comic Con over the weekend! That trailer hasn’t made its way online yet, but a teaser poster has, along with some story details. Here’s the poster:

Sci-fi fans will certainly know the name of Katee Sackhoff, a very popular television actress who has appeared in numerous roles in sci-fi series, both in live-action and animated formats.
Most recently, fans could see her as Bo-Katan Kryze in The Mandalorian, a hit series that is a spin-off from the Star Wars franchise.
But, her roles are numerous. Older fans will probably remember her from Battlestar Galactica, where she played Lieutenant Kara “Starbuck” Thrace, and she has also appeared in numerous voice roles in DC’s projects, like Batman: The Long Halloween or Watchmen. She also appeared in The Flash, Futurama, Star Wars: Rebels, and others.
Yet, there is one major franchise Sackhoff still hasn’t appeared in – Star Trek – and in a recent interview, the actress was asked whether she would actually like to join the franchise in some capacity. If you want to know what the actress said about the proposal,...

Nicolas Cage took to the stage at the 25th Newport Beach Film Festival on Sunday to urge up-and-coming actors from giving into pressure from employers opting to use artificial intelligence to change or otherwise manipulate their performance.
The veteran A-Lister was making a speech ahead of his Icon Award reception during the fete’s Honors Brunch taking place at the Balboa Bay Resort, which also featured honorees like June Squibb, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Colman Domingo and more.
“Film performance, to me, is very much a handmade, organic, from-scratch process,” the Longlegs actor said while uplifting young actors. “It’s from the heart, it’s from the imagination, it’s from thoughts and detail and thinking and honing and preparing.”
He continued, “There is a new technology in town. It’s a technology that I didn’t have to contend with for 42 years until recently. But these 10 young actors,...

"Stargate" was a tweener of a box office hit. Directed by Roland Emmerich from a screenplay he wrote with Dean Devlin, the film made $197 million globally on a budget of $55 million in 1994, which is very good but not the kind of runaway smash that automatically gets a sequel. Though Emmerich and Devlin had loose plans for a trilogy, several things got in the way, namely "Independence Day" and the opportunity to spend three times the budget of "Stargate" on a "Godzilla" remake and star-studded disaster movies. Did they choose wisely?
Fans of "Stargate Sg-1," the television spin-off that aired for five seasons on Showtime before moving over the SyFy for another five seasons, would emphatically state "No." Emmerich and Devlin might've had nothing to do with the series, but its dedicated fanbase didn't care. They got caught up in the galaxy-traversing exploits of Richard Dean Anderson and his Sg-1 crew,...

Review: I love Michael Keaton movies. In the 1980s and 1990s, Keaton was the ubiquitous leading man in everything from comedies and dramas to his game-changing turn in Tim Burton’s Batman. In the early 2000s, Keaton’s roles dried up a bit, aside from voice roles in the Cars and Toy Story franchises. After his awards-worthy role in 2014’s Birdman, Keaton had a resurgence with acclaimed films like The Founder, Spotlight, and The Trial of the Chicago 7 to a very different comic book character in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Michael Keaton is hosting Saturday Night Live tonight, presumably to promote his latest movie, while also ensuring that every Halloween party in America contains at least seven to nine dudes dressed like Beetlejuice.
Keaton’s first outing as host, back in 1982, didn’t go too well (producer Dick Ebersol enlisted Michael Palin to come be a backup host), but he was much more famous when he returned to host a decade later. I mean, he was literally Batman. And Keaton’s ‘92 monologue was all about how the former stand-up is such a big star now that he can, and will, throw out any audience member who rubs him the wrong way.

In 2015, Keaton hosted for a third time, not long after his career had been rejuvenated by the Oscar-winning Birdman or (the Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance). Despite the fact that he had just starred in the most recent Oscar Best Picture,...

Anthony and Joe Russo, the Russo Brothers, have directed some of the biggest movies of all time, with their film Avengers: Endgame coming in second place just behind James Cameron’s Avatar… but that hasn’t made it any easier to get their sci-fi adventure film The Electric State out into the world. The project was first announced back in 2017 and experienced multiple ups, downs, and behind-the-scenes shake-ups on its way to production, with filming beginning in 2022 and wrapping in early 2023. Reshoots followed in 2024. Now The Electric State is finally be ready to make its way out into the world, so we figured it was time to put together a list of Everything We Know About The Electric State:

Certain actors leave behind their mark on character roles, especially if they have been playing it for a while. This is particularly true for actors playing popular heroes in the superhero genre, which is why fans would always associate Robert Downey Jr. with Iron Man no matter what mantel he picks up.
While DC fans could argue for eons about who was the best Superman, one fan demolished all competition. A fanart showcased four iconic renditions of the popular superhero, as they watched over the planet together. The sweet memorabilia of past and future Supermen is a testament to the character’s popularity and fan devotion.
Not the best out of the bunch but the bunch itself
Henry Cavill‘s Man of Steel successfully launched the actor in the role of Superman. The dark and gritty tale intrigued the viewers who were desperately waiting for the promised sequel which was never delivered.

Millie Bobby Brown may soon be saying bye to the ’80s-set “Stranger Things,” but the Netflix staple star isn’t traveling far in time (or space) for her upcoming film “The Electric State.”
Brown leads the adventure feature alongside Marvel alum Chris Pratt, who reunites with his “Avengers: Endgame” co-directors Anthony and Joe Russo for the 1990s-set film. Brown plays Michelle, an orphaned teen who is navigating life in a society where sentient robots resembling cartoons and mascots live in exile after a failed uprising. Yet after Michelle befriends lovable robot Cosmo, who appears to be controlled by her maybe-dead younger brother, she sets out to find the truth about what really happened to her family.
Of course, Brown’s co-star Pratt seems to be continuing his “Guardians of the Galaxy” alter ego by once again playing a futuristic smuggler.
The official synopsis reads: “Determined to find the beloved sibling she thought she had lost,...

Thanks to last year's Hollywood strikes, 2024 hasn't been the most exciting 365 days for comic book movies. Marvel Studios released an instant classic with Deadpool & Wolverine, only for Warner Bros. to drop a dud with Joker: Folie à Deux.
We still have a couple of Sony titles on the way over the next couple of months but, in the meantime, we're ranking the five Marvel Studios and DC Studios movies on the way in 2025.
Next year will usher in the new Dcu as the MCU starts laying the groundwork for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. It promises to be a thrilling year for the genre, but which of these movies are we most excited about?

There’s only room for one killer clown at the top of box office charts.
“Terrifier 3” slashed its way to No. 1 in North America, collecting a stellar $18.3 million from 2,514 theaters in its opening weekend. It’s a huge start for the ultra-gory, independently made, low-budget slasher film about a demonic clown who brutalizes a small town.
Meanwhile “Joker: Folie á Deux,” which topped the box office last weekend, collapsed in third place with $7.055 million from 4,102 theaters. It could end up in fourth place, behind holdover “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” once the final numbers are tallied on Monday. The off-beat comic book musical, starring Joaquin Phoenix as a reclusive stand-up comedian and part-time clown, suffered a tragic 82% decline in ticket sales from its already disastrous $37.6 million debut. It ranks as one of the biggest-second weekend drops for the superhero genre, plunging more severely than last year’s misfires of “The Marvels” (78.1%), “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania...

From 2013 to 2023, director Zack Snyder dictated the tone and look of the now-defunct DC Extended Universe. At the beginning of the decade-long mishegoss, Snyder rebooted the Superman story with "Man of Steel," a loud, bleak, faux-poetic noise-fest that divided audiences sharply. Some felt that Snyder's operatic visuals and overblown storytelling habits were a good way to make Superman "grow up," while many others felt that Snyder's film was more style than substance. The division wrought by Snyder continued into a massively inconsistent interconnected superhero universe that contained some of the best superhero movies ever made ("Shazam!") and some of the biggest flops of all time ("The Flash").
One of the more controversial follow-ups was Snyder's own 2016 film "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice." In that film, the newly introduced Batman (Ben Affleck) was already suspicious of the newly arrived Superman (Henry Cavill), given that Superman laid waste to Metropolis at...

2023 was a rotten year for the DC brand. DC Studios' announcement at the start of the year that the franchise would be rebooted lessened interest in Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Flash, Blue Beetle, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, with each of them struggling at the box office.
Only Blue Beetle really managed to escape the wrath of fans and critics, though it too flopped with $130 million on a budget of over $100 million.
2024's only DC movie is Joker: Folie à Deux and...well, what a week it's been for the sequel. With 33% on Rotten Tomatoes (and 32% courtesy of moviegoers), it's bombed at the box office and will be one of the year's biggest flops when all is said and done.
The blame game has also begun, with filmmaker Todd Phillips said to be responsible for the massive budget after decided he "wanted nothing to do with DC" while making this follow-up.

Ah, the Arrowverse! It’s like that perfect blend of coffee and donuts: rich, complex, and incredibly addictive. Since bursting onto the scene in 2012, this universe has spun a colorful web of storytelling, weaving together not just four TV shows but also a delightful array of digital spin-offs, comics, and novels.
Now, as fate would have it, the spotlight shines once again on the dynamic duo: Arrow and The Flash.

Arrow might be the elder statesman, laying the foundation for the entire universe, but it took The Flash’s supercharged debut to create the shared universe fans know and love. Despite their shared DNA—crossed wires and…even crossover episodes—Arrow sticks to the shadows with its gritty, grounded escapades, while The Flash zips around with fun, fast-paced, lightning-powered antics.
Yet, both shows hold the torch for DC’s television conquest, leading us to...

Connie Nielsen is about to return as Roman Princess Lucilla in Ridley Scott's "Gladiator II." One of the only cast and character carryovers from the original "Gladiator," Nielsen/Lucilla looks like she'll play the same supporting role to her son Lucius (Paul Mescal) as she did to Maximus (Russell Crowe) in the first.
Less than two months out from the "Gladiator II" premiere, Nielsen is on the press tour — and opening up about some of her other work. In a recent interview with Den of Geek, Nielsen said it's "a pity" that Warner Bros isn't going ahead with Gal Gadot and director Patty Jenkins' "Wonder Woman 3."
In the 2017 "Wonder Woman," Nielsen played Hippolyta, queen of Themyscira and mother to Diana (Gal Gadot). She then reprised her role twice: in both cuts of "Justice League," Hippolyta and her Amazons fight the villainous New God Steppenwolf (Ciarán Hinds), and then the...

Earlier this week, it was officially confirmed that Kyle Chandler of Super 8 will be playing the DC Comics character Hal Jordan in the upcoming HBO series Lanterns – but before Chandler gets to work on that show, he’ll be working with Matt Damon and Ben Affleck on Rip, a crime thriller that’s written and directed by Joe Carnahan and is set up at the Netflix streaming service. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Chandler will be playing a DEA agent in the film.
Rip will follow a group of Miami cops whose trust begins to fray after they discover millions in cash in a derelict stash house. As outside forces learn about the size of the seizure, everything is called into question — including who they can rely on.
Damon, Affleck, and Chandler are joined in the cast by Sasha Calle, who played Supergirl in The Flash, singer/songwriter Teyana Taylor,...
