Great Final Twist
claudio_carvalho28 February 2024
Finch and Reese save the life of a veterinarian in a clinic. Then The Machine delivers the number of the prosecutor Vanessa Watkins, who sent to jail many low-lives and therefore should be a target of many criminals. Vanessa is married with the defense lawyer Jeremy Watkins, who has released many criminals using fails in the processes. Vanessa has just reported to the US Coast Guard that her husband falls off in the sea from their yacht and his body is missing. When Reese follows Vanessa, who is walking with her best friend Nicole, she is arrested by the police for murder. She is interrogated by Det. Cameron, who has a beef with her, and he discloses several evidence he has but he does not have a body, and she asks for a lawyer. Reese asks Fusco to see Vanessa in the interrogation room; however, she has attacked her lawyer and escaped from the precinct using her clothes. Reese finds her with a powerful drug-dealer, who delivers one kg of cocaine to her. Now Finch and Reese question whether she is a target or a perpetrator. Meanwhile, Carter's rookie Mike Laskey is spying on her for Terney.

"Reasonable Doubt" is a great episode of "Person of Interest", with a plot with many twists. Some of them are predictable, but the plot is very enjoyable. Even Carter, who was specialist in interrogation, is lured. Carter has to pay attention to her rookie, who seems to be from the HR. My vote is nine.

Cloverleaf

Warning: Spoilers
One of the best things about 'Person of Interest' is what any series needs to survive: Interesting characters. They're simply a pleasure to watch. Episodes like this make it easy for most fans to overlook the minimal progression of the overarching plot line. This episode is definitely a story-of-the-week, not one that is likely to be revisited in the future (a certain character's decision notwithstanding). But that definitely does not diminish the quality of this somewhat standalone episode. Aside from the unclear fates of two minor characters and, as mentioned before, a mere pawn's move in the larger game being played here. Yet most of the protagonists (all of the regulars) make meaningful appearances, and that alone seems to be able to keep this show enjoyable. And most fortunately, that pawn's move I mentioned instantly takes a character that could have become annoying quick and gives them an edge with a fairly surprising revelation.

I will say that my personal hope is for the series to put more focus on the overarching plot (as it has done previously in most excellent form), but as long as they keep churning out episodes of this quality, they have a loyal fan in me.

Weakest episode to date
A_Different_Drummer3 January 2015
I don't usually go out of my way to flag the low end of the quality spectrum but it is as much the job of the reviewer to note weakness as it is strength.

And sometimes die-hard fans get so hooked on a show they lose the ability to differentiate.

Aside from a 30 second bit where Shahi pulls out a gun at a woman's book club - which almost had me on the floor -- this one is a clunker.

The guest star, Kathleen Rose Perkins, is badly cast for the role of a female prosecutor because she has trouble delivering her lines. And the story is so weak that the writers compensated with extra dialog and lots of dead ends, another sign of weakness and lack of confidence in your story.

Even Jim is off here, actually walking with a small limp as though he was not at his best for this one. (Only Gary Cooper can pull THAT off).

Viewers often forget that the media business is a business and it works to deadline. Another IMDb said it nicely, this one was not ready to come out of the oven yet, it needed more work.

Yes it did.

Easy on the exposition there, fellas!
gridoon202410 March 2021
The writers of this episode seem to think that by having the characters repeat and explain the plot to each other ad nauseam it will become interesting. They're wrong; it wouldn't even pass muster on a low-rent "Murder, She Wrote" episode. Good ending, though - at least Reese's cynicism has progressed a little after 49 episodes because almost nothing else has. ** out of 4.

The episode needed more work.
Gramscii14 October 2013
One can't tell from the outside whether this was poor writing or poor direction. The storyline was unbelievable and improbable, on multiple levels. The show continues to drop action or episodes into the mix that do not move the primary plot lines forward, or forward with any real pace. The show seems to be trying to develop additional characters with an eye to developing additional story lines. The show does not need additional story lines. It needs progress on the mainline that can be used to develop characterization on or with the minor characters. If you're going to have a character, get them to do something. Get the dog to do something. Cute and cuddly is not enough.

what is shaw doing ?? seriously !!
Sarony198715 October 2013
It seems that the show was perfect without more characters because I don't see Shaw's character doing any benefit except it seems to me as another version of Reese, female version??that's the idea ?? She made the other character "Reese's character" so weak and he is not control the character as the he started :/ Honestly from the begging of season 3 the actions the best part in this show didn't went well that episode totally prove my doubts. Hope Root can keep the show up and BTW where is she ? We supposed to know what is the problem?? Iam afraid the first 5 or six episodes in any season can effect on the rest of th next episodes even if the episodes are separated, hope everything goes well next week.

I consider myself a huge fan for person of interest, and yeah I am not satisfied about this beginning of this season..

Left a lot to be desired
SumBuddy-324 October 2013
I've never commented on the show before, as it's consistently well-written, that is until this episode. The actress playing the lawyer whose husband is missing, was less than believable. Since I have seen her resume and she is a very accomplished actress, I just have to put it on the writing. I don't know why Ross now has a larger part than John some weeks, is he preparing to leave the show? That's the only reason I can conceive of why they would dilute his character. Her charisma cannot hold a candle to his, he essentially made the show what it is. Why create a duplicitous character? Please, please don't become another tired watered-down network TV show. This show was so different-for so long.
