Someone's camcorder footage.
thedavidlady20 January 2015
Oh, come on. This isn't a movie. It isn't even a short. The handful of people who threw this together by walking around a churchyard for a while with a video camera in tow weren't even trying. You often can't hear what the participants are muttering, and when you do it's so ear-punishingly redundant and awkward that it makes you grateful for the scenes in which the dialogue cannot be understood.

I've seen hundreds of independent horror projects, but this one scrapes the bottom of the grave. There isn't a single effective moment or legitimate idea here. Just a few friends loitering in the dark and trying to look scared while the guy running the camera attempts (often unsuccessfully)to keep them in focus.

They can't even hit the 70-minute mark without cutting in every bit of meaningless outdoor footage (trees, footpaths, etc.) they could muster up.

An appalling, indifferently slapped-together insult to your intelligence.

If i could have given this "film" a zero i would have.

The person who wrote the first review along with the people who made this "film" are totally deluded!

at no point anywhere in the 70mins is this a "film" at no point in the 70mins is this "film" scary!

The childish over the top silly special effects, the bad acting and the bad camera work make this film a total train crash!

The reason its so short is because the "makers" probably couldn't think of any more rubbish to squeeze into it!!

Stick it in a box, bury it and never open it again EVER!

Speechless

As I have already wasted 70 minutes on this hideously acted, badly spliced together trash, I can just say this:

I hate trashing indie efforts because usually they are a good alternative to formula, mass-produced crap from Hollywood...but in this case, all it leaves me with is that I feel a hell of a lot better about my own short films now.

My hand-held camera work and respect for proper plots and links now look like A-list productions compared to this. I cannot believe I actually found this "movie" on IMDb!

A Date With Scary CGI effects!
John-Von-Shelton1 August 2013
Mansfield filmmaker, Jason Brown has always had a fascination with the supernatural and in "A Date with Ghosts", he has put together a 70 minute mini feature shot in Nottingham with great merits. I was lucky enough to see this film as a test screener on the internet in 2013.

A Date with Ghosts is well put together and the title sequence credits really stood out for me in their high looking production values. Jason has reportedly spent over 1K on this very ambitious horror film. The acting is good (i.e. lead actress) and the jump scare techniques were very well done and edited. There seem to be some unedited screen shots, but I assume this was to be fixed as Jason takes the film to festivals.

What impressed me is that things look higher in values in this feature. I hope it does well for him and Jason even has an acting role. The locations all look good in the country side and derelict church buildings added with matte and cgi techniques for shots that are worth seeing alone. Also, the high over-head tree shots are good, too. It also has some creepy looking ritual monk figures that terrorize the cast, mainly female.

Rating: 3.5 out 5 = Turn out the lights and dwell in indie horror from a hard working, Nottingham filmmaker. Horror/Indie fans should love it.

Do ghosts exist??
johnzappulla3 January 2022
I don't know about ghosts, but I do know for a fact that film editors exist. Too bad this piece of trash didn't believe in an editor.

Seriously, this "film" is one of the most poorly constructed and badly filmed movie releases ever. A complete waste of time.

what?!?!
amymay-6991625 October 2023
WHAT IS HAPPENING AND WHY?!?!? Trapped in a monastary by ghostly killer monks or something. How? Why? So badly acted and effected that it's almost physically painful. How many random girls are hiding in this monastary also?!?!? They pop out every 10 minutes like easter eggs. Something weird is going on with the splicing of the film or some such at 41:53 or so.....you can see typesetting across the leg of one girl. If you're just DYING to see.....nothing! Then this movie is for you!! Somehow the guy's ill fitting, ugly clothing just makes me angry. That shirt should be against the geneva convention. Terrible plot, bad acting, horrible cgi AND bad wardrobe. The movie crap quartet. Skip this stinker. It's too late for me,but you can save yourself!

Warning: Spoilers
First off I'll say that there are vague spoilers in my review...This movie, "A Date with Ghosts" is a wildeye production. Wildeye makes a wide range of movies but most of them are found footage and almost all of them share that low grade camera quality. I am a huge fan of found footage as well as b horror films so when I saw this movie in the store it grabbed my attention. this film is filmed in the found footage style, but it is not found footage. It's filmed similar to how "Yellow Brick Road" was filmed. This was probably because the director knew he wanted that spooky aspect of found footage but he couldn't come up with a plausible reason why either of the characters would be holding a camera. There are many mess ups or as the website calls them, "Slipups" in this movie. In the beginning when the girl goes to meet her friend at the old monastery it is day time. she sees that her friend is not there yet so she calls him and asks where he is. He tells her that he already went there and something had happened, causing him to leave. So, the girl goes to meet her friend elsewhere but when she does it is clearly night time and a matter of minutes have passed. Then, when they go back to the monastery, it is clearly day time again! The director of this film is also one of the leading stars. why he would wear clothes that don't fit during his screen time beats the hell out of me. There is a part a little bit more than halfway through where you can see the director's character's ENTIRE ass, as his pants clearly don't fit him and he keeps on pulling them down so they aren't high waters. By pulling them down though, his ass is coming out! By the next scene someone had fixed the problem because now the douche bag of a director was wearing a belt, but STILL pulling his pants down around his ass, exposing the nastiest sight in the movie. This film was also quite short, at a run time of 70 mins. The idea of the monk ghosts though, is quite original and quite scary. The way they walk behind trees and their crazy faces are at times very frightening. The director does have a good idea of what is scary. "Turn out the lights and dwell in the chills"

Great low budget Horror film.
fordmark35228 January 2015
Low budget but really enjoyed the film, great CGI, good acting, spooky monks, something different and not just another rehash of a zombie film or something that's been done a 1000 times before. Made me jump too, great opening credits that really impressed me, the sounds pretty good for a low budget film, I would give this a watch. reminded me of Tomb of the blind dead!

In the 13th century there existed a legion of evil knights known as the Templars, who quested for eternal life by drinking human blood and committing sacrifices. Executed for their unholy deeds, the Templars bodies were left out for the crows to peck out their eyes. Now, in modern day Portugal, a group of people stumble on the Templars abandoned monastery, reviving their rotting corpses to terrorise the land.

Locations were awesome, great looking churches, spooky cool evil looking monks and 70mins not to long.
