Bad films are part of the movie-making process. For every Citizen Kane, there are dozens of Law Abiding Citizens; for every The Exorcist, hundreds of Exorcist II: The Heretics.
They're all meant to do badly, because they are bad. But sometimes, there's an aberration. Sometimes... they're successful. Very successful. Very, very successful.
Here, then, are 14 of our favourite least favourite films to ever make studio heads' eyes turn into little dollar signs (in order of awfulness).
14. Anger Management (2003)
Rotten Tomatoes ranking: 43%
Production budget: $75 million
Worldwide box office: $195 million
Anger Management spluttered back into like in 2012 as a TV vehicle for snake blood-drinking "winner" Charlie Sheen. It lasted two seasons: the first had 10 episodes, the second 90, all so the show could go into syndication. As soon as it hit its 100th episode, it was immediately canned.
13. Meet The Fockers (2004)
Rotten Tomatoes ranking: 38%
Production budget: $80 million
Worldwide box office: $516 million

Here's a puzzle I can't figure out: why is Arnold Schwarzenegger looking to star in a "Twins" sequel, when a followup to "Kindergarten Cop" would be so much better? I mean, not that either movie actually needs a sequel, but if I had to choose one, I'd definitely go with the latter over the former. But it looks like the property is moving ahead, although without Arnie's involvement. Showbiz 411 reports that Universal's 1440 Entertainment — responsible for such gems as "Curse Of Chucky," "Beethoven's Treasure," and "The Scorpion King: The Lost Throne" — are gearing up a remake that will probably go straight to VOD/video. This incarnation will pair the cop hero with an Indian sidekick named Sanjit for some reason, as they deal with Albanian baddies and search for a flash drive from the Federal Witness Protection program that winds up — guess where? And then the cop and a beautiful lady...

You know you’re in trouble with a direct to DVD movie when the writer has a resume whose titles are made up of over 50% direct to DVD sequels to films that a) didn’t deserve a sequel or, even worse, b) didn’t need a sequel. Yes, from the pen of Michael Weiss – who has written such lauded films as Octopus 2, I Always Know What You Did Last Summer, The Butterfly Effect 2 and Hostel III – comes The Scorpion King 4. A film that is, given just how truly terrible the last film was (a shock given the great Dtv credits of its director Roel Reine), truly unexpected… After all, when all you...

Gone Girl Obviously this is the week's top title, what with the Blu-ray coming with its very own "Amazing Amy" book, though I have to assume the David Fincher commentary is the big draw here for most people. However, there has to be a special edition of this title coming out at some point considering other than the commentary this is pretty much a bare bones release. If anything this is a title I'd love to see Criterion get their hands on down the line, though I think Fox will take the opportunity for a special edition release in the future before that ever happens.
A Walk Among the Tombstones This was an a'ight movie, nothing I would necessarily write home about, though it thankfully wasn't just another Taken-style movie as director Scott Frank was definitely going for something a little old school, noirish... it just didn't entirely work in the end.

Pretty good update this week as we kick things off with J.C. Chandor's A Most Violent Year and its R rating, the only "R" rating among the notable titles this week as fellow Oscar contender, Angelina Jolie's Unbroken comes in with a PG-13 rating, though by the sounds of it it's a pretty strong one. Possible foreign language contender, Two Days, One Night from the Dardennes and starring Marion Cotillard scored a PG-13, as did the upcoming Poltergeist remake. Also in the bulletin today is Bill Pohland's Love & Mercy starring Paul Dano as reclusive Beach Boys songwriter Brian Wilson. And, finally Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb takes home a family friendly PG. Oh, and as for The Scorpion King 4: Quest For Power, it's coming to Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD on January 20, 2015, and you won't believe it, but on top of starring Victor Webster...
