IMHO, the Low Reviews must be from K-Drama Fans
divemabini13 March 2024
RSL continues a hot streak of Thai shows that I thoroughly enjoyed. It doesn't try to be too much, and you know what you're getting from the very beginning - an underdog story set against corpo elitism with some dark dystopian undertones. Nothing fancy. All of it easy to see.

What never ceases to amaze me is how these Thai shows end up far more enjoyable than their Korean counterparts who have 10-20 times the budget. But look closer and it is easy to understand why. In Thai shows, people act in harmony with their personalities. Not always logically, but consistent with how they are portrayed and how their history/up-bringing makes them as adults. In Korean shows, the never-ending illogical behavior, overly dramatic and nonsensical posing, and the martyrdom has gotten incredibly old. Just look at my reviews of Doona, Record of Youth, Castaway Diva, Welcome to Sandal-ri, etc. To see examples of how NOT to formulate a love story. K Dramas are trying to hard to be artsy and chic, that they can't get out of their way. Even Gyeongsong Creature features ridiculous choices by the lead characters.

RSL has none of that. It is simple, stays on message, and delivers an emotional ride.

So, why not 10 stars? Why only 8? Because I took off 2 stars for the completely unnecessary and pointless post-credits scene. It, a) Ruins all the good "feels" the ending provided, and b) Is an obvious attempt to tease a 2nd season. Though, this fails because the way the show ends does not lend itself easily to another season. It would have to be a drastically different show for that to work. (Think Hunger Games dark.)

So, do yourself a favor, and stop watching right when the first credit starts to roll. You'll thank me later.

An okay Thai drama.
kmhlbeavis17 March 2024
Set in a time when there was few men and almost all women the men were protected and used for a game show to mate them with an ideal match which was corrupted in the way it was run. The lead actress is drop dead gorgeous and she can act on top of that. The problem I find with this is that if this was for real why not just let the men run loose and mate with as many women as possible to re-populate the country with more males. This doesn't make sense to me. There is probably going to be a season 2 in which they are hunted down by the lady who runs this whole sham and wants them bad. This should not take more than 6 episodes to wrap up this whole thing.

Quirky, funny and sweet series with an important message
haraldssona25 February 2024
This is an interesting dystopian series which mixes fun and sadness, real life and the dreamier version, friendship and love as well as hate and jealousy. The series has some resemblance to the Hunger Games, the Black Mirror, Squid Game (however not as brutal) and maybe even, to some extent, Bridget Jones. It was first time for me watching a Thai series. One should definitely watch it in the original language; please do not watch it dubbed, you miss out on so much then. I would say that this series is a salutation to freedom and equality, and mainly that one should be able to love whomever you want. I loved that it is queer and that it was simple yet deep. It was also wonderfully silly and goofy yet serious as well. It was about facing your fears and being able to do so with the people you love. To summarise, it was a surprisingly good balance! Thank you for giving me, a Swede, an insight in this quirky, yet with an important message, Thai drama.

Beautiful Gem!
SmeadSound25 February 2024
It's hard to describe this wonderful gem from Yanyong Kuruangkura. It's part sci-fi dystopia but also romance drama but non of that without SpongeBob SquarePants humor. It's a wild ride but beautiful and amazing all together.

The best I could say is Hunger Games story but with happy ending, Squid Games cinematography and set design, Disney channel goofiness and 4th wall moments, SpongeBob sound effects, Singles Inferno format, and Stranger Things music magic.

Intriguing plot, inspired directing, masterful production, and captivating performances! If you love film and can handle some anime level camp this is for you!

If Squid Games was in the Bachelor with a hint of Hunger Games
pcgeek29 February 2024
Squid Games + Bachelor + hint of Hunger Games = Ready, Set, Love.

Ths show is set in a bleak and oppressive world, where society is under the control of a totalitarian government. But are you looking for love?! Then you're going to have to fight for it!

I never knew I'd love a Thai drama. I've been watching Korean dramas for a while. Netflix recommended it so many times on Netflix. I gave it a shot and I couldn't stop watching it. It's a little silly and sometimes you want to skip to the end. Don't! It's worth it when everything goes together.

They seriously make it sound like we'll get a season 2. I really hope so!! Please, let us have another season Netflix!!

Warning: Spoilers
Yeah. You read in others reviews that i doesn't take it shelf too seriously and that is true. But you call tell they put a lot of work into it. I dont wacht kdramas o thai dramas but love science fiction so i gave it a shot. I'm unfamiliar with the tones. Is it a cultural thing? Maybe. But the acting its fine. They all have great moments that makes you wonder why is good now and not before. I liked de hunger games vibe. Dint enjoy the ending, maybe its because theres another season coming? Questions will be answered there? I hope. Otherwise the world is on fire and the do nothing about it for the future of their kid.

It's definitely a catch thai drama
khlaboumlatte23 February 2024
I was searching something to watch while I do my crochet, and this one make me stop doing that just for watch!! I think I'm going to end this night, I'm on last episode and I don't now what will happen, good or not, I'm excited to see it!! It's a really good drama and I think everyone should give a chance for the plot, like if isn't your type, it's okay, but this one is really good and the story it reveals along the drama give us a bit anxiety if it's everything going to be well or not!! And it's so funny too, so it's a perfect match 💖 my favorite thai drama from now!! And I loved the actors too, the really do their work well!!!

This series had potential but
viawhyy30 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I think that if this show wasn't a comedy I would give it a 10. I love dark side of this show and I think it had so much potential! Also the ending is disappointing, like what happened to the Farm? People destroyed it? They just skipped everything and showed us Son and Day with their son but what happened to others? The concept was interesting and the idea of this universe is awesome, but I would make it a little more darker and focus on the "taking sons from mothers" problem. If someone wants to watch something short and don't want to think about what's going on in the story- you would like it, I think. For me it was cringe sometimes tho. Have a good day <3.

LOVE LOVE LOVE
kryshagohr28 February 2024
I absolutely loved this show! It is ridiculous, funny, and has a good drama storyline. At first it seemed a little odd but i think that is cuz i don't watch Thai dramas. It is a cross between love is blind, squid games, and various other tv shows. I think at Epi 3 it started to get into its own storyline. I absolutely loved this show and I cried watching the ending. Then i was on the edge of my seat with the drama they dropped at the end. HUGE CLIFFHANGER!! I have to know what happens next! This absolutely has! To get a second season! Wr don't know what happened to any of the characters other than Day, May, son, paper, & val.

Super Fun Watch
arachnicatty23 February 2024
I watched the whole thing in two evenings. Bright colorful and absolutely hilarious at times. The scenes were cut and directed beautifully almost like a choreographed dance level of getting the story and humor beats just right. However, the plot got kind of muddy, weak, and loses its fun whimsical quality at the last episode. It almost seemed like a completely different show with different characters. Also if plotholes bother you, this might not be the watch for you. There are a lot of things that are not explained that seem like a very obvious solutions. I don't mind because the story itself is so fun and doesn't take itself to seriously until the end. I also love the main character who (until the last episode) isn't just a tv quirky girl, but an actual hilarious mess. Loud, abrasive, has no manners, but still manages to make me root for them. If you love over the top, colorful camp, watch this show. You won't regret it.

Give it a shot. Just don't think about it too much.
moon_goddess325 February 2024
Is it riddled with plot holes, frustrating suspenseful moments where you scream "why are you just standing there?!??" for minutes at a time, and truly thought out world building? Yes. But the overarching story is refreshing. It doesn't rely on the 1,001 RomCom tropes that every storyline seems to have these days. The problem is the execution of that story leaves a lot of questions.

Despite that, it's a story worth watching. Just don't think about it too much. If you're looking for a feel good romantic comedy with a range of emotions sprinkled in, this is a decent one. You follow many subplots that give you multiple people to root for. I truly didn't know where it was going most of the time and that was part of the fun of it.

In short: Give it a shot. You might enjoy it.

Put your logic behind and watch it.
pploysuayy22 February 2024
It's a mixture of single inferno, squid game and a romantic comedy. It's funny and touching at the same time. If you have seen the bachelorette and you like it. Yes! This is a 6 episodes. I love the idea of what if the world have men as minority. Please watch it with an open mind and just enjoy the show.

I didn't know any cast and I didn't even expect anything from this show. Maybe that's why I enjoyed it so much. I never liked these type of show but this got me hooked on the first two episodes. Watch it straight from 1-6.

I hope there's a season 2. Please renew this Netflix. When the world is full of stress, this is what we need.

Warning: Spoilers
Absolutely loved the show couldn't wait to watch it all it was funny and definitely over the top bit thats why it was so good and love the fact the main character is not your typical main character. It was colourful quirky and with romance.

It was a light watch where you didn't need to think to much and the episodes just flowed together I hope they make a season two as I would love to see them take on the farm. Almond needs to come to his senses in season two and realise that the farm is wrong and I hope he gets to reunite with his family that wpuld be a good thing in season two as 3 of the boys got happy endings so I would like the others to have it as well.

Fresh & Unique
alexajusto-9515023 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
With a very distinguishable and unique plot line, I would say this series suprised me.

I'm not usually the biggest fan of cheesy love stories, but when I tell you that this storie both show amazing representation of LGBTQIA+ community with out making it the center of the action and amazing writting for all the couples (P. S.: with my favourite couple ending up to be Chanel and Max), it really hook me in!

What really left me surprised was some of the reception that I saw online towards Day's personality. I was not aware it was an issue since to me, she acted like any other stereotypical female lead in most of korean and japanese romantic dramas I've seen.

As for the only issues that i had.

-Firstly, Jin. I thing that Jin was a really wasted potentional. They could have either built him to be an enemy to the other bachelors by sideing with The Farm since the beginning or by showing his reaction to descovering only he and Max weren't told the truth.

But it's okay since there's always room to a possible season 2.

-And secondly, leaving Max and Chanel off the alliance. When Day, Son, Paper and Valentine first created they're little plan, the first thought that came to my mind was 'Oh Son is definitely telling Chanel about the plan so that they can both free to do as they please', but as the show continued, it proved me wrong. I was very confused by it because why couldn't Son and Day just tell Chanel about the plan? If she knew about it, she and Son with be able to be with the people they wanted it when the cameras weren't filming and act up together to the cameras as to make Chanel's happy and also tricker her. (P. S.: this issue might be a bit bias because i really just hated to see my favourite simp Max being sad😅)

Oh wow
TheodoraEh9 April 2024
I was not expecting this to be good, and it was really good! I've been pleasantly surprised with Thai productions these days and I'm so happy about it! I've finished everything Korean and Japanese and I only started this because I had nothing to watch but I really enjoyed it!

Overall the whole production was great, I don't know what the budget was but it looks very well made, like people actually made an effort to make this as perfect as possible. I particularly loved some details in the games, settings, sound effects etc that made it really fun and unique. I also found the story quite unique and engaging. And all the actors did a great job, especially the very handsome male lead who shares the same birthday as me lol.

From the movie poster/trailer it looked pretty cringey/cheesy to me but it turns out that was minimal to none, which was a huge surprise. It was actually fun and interesting, with not much room for boredom, especially since it's just 6 episodes (better than dragging 16).

If you can look beyond the slapstick comedy it is a hidden gem lighthearted romance
leahcubed5 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
9.5/10 is my rating. This is a 2024 Thai Dystopian Romantic Comedy Series with 6, 63-7 minute episodes.

First I provide a unique synopsis then review

Synopsis

The show is set in a dystopian parallel universe where a virus has resulted in males representing only 1% of the population. The rarity of males has lead to the government raising them from birth in a controlled, secure, and luxurious environment (a gilded cage) called The Farm. Every Four Years a contest is held in the form of an elimination dating game where ladies are able to choose to marry an individual from a group of the young bachelors. In previous games, the contestants were chosen from elite families only but, for the first time, they hold a lottery to choose an average femalecitizen to compete. Darika Chokwithee or "Day" (Belle Kemisara Paladesh) is a hardworking young lady whose life centers around making sure her sister, May (Neen Neennara Boonnithipaisit) who has cancer, gets the best care. Her sister May though has always fan girled over the boys on the farm particularly Son (Blue Pongtiwat Tangwancharoen) who she particularly admires. While Day is busy working a variety of jobs, May focuses on getting as many entries as possible to the lottery. When a miracle happens and May's entry is chosen, she talks Day into going in her place. Day could care less aboit some frivilous show until she discovers if she wins, and marries one of the men from "The Farm", she can secure the future for herself and her sister including top quality medical care. But, things are not as they are portrayed and the game has been rigged for the top elite to have their choice of the men. Day's friend, Valentine (Jane Jaytiya Naiwattanakul) is working with a counter group, and goes to work for the show as the spy inside. Can true love overcome odds so heavily weighed against it?

Review

If ypu can see past some of the siily slapstick aspects around the game show, it is a hidden gem. It can be hard to find a truely feel good romantic comedy like this one. This is cute, not super complex, and ends happily with all major plot elememts neatly resolved. It is short but the number of episodes were enough to tell the story well. I would rewatch it in the future and recommend it as a heartwarming romantic comedy. I could habe done without the boy love and girl love elements but it was not hyper sexualized content in general so it was not a big deal.

Spoilers

The only very slight detractor for me was some of the three stooges level comedy. But it did make me giggle a couple of times as it was so incredibly silly.

Despite the relative light fluff of the main story, there are some deeper messages. What is health and safety without freedom? The men on the Farm are living in the highest level of safety with every luxury but they are not free.

If there was ever a situation like that we can all envision where the elite would likely control it. Natural selection and genetic diversity is what keeps a population strong and healthy. So their "selection" system would be horrible from that perspective. But if you think of inbreeding among royal lines in the past, and the genetic issues that caused, it is not surprising.

Almond's (Man Trisanu Soranun) fear and decision to stay behind makes sense considering the psychology of a situation like that. It is like opening a cage and the bird or whatever either does not leave or uses it as a home base.

#ReadySetLove #BelleKemisaraPaladesh #NeenNeennaraBoonnithipaisit #BluePongtiwatTangwancharoen #JaneJaytiyaNaiwattanakul #ManTrisanuSoranun.

Weak Storyline, Just Put Your Logic Aside and Enjoy
lollipopie22 February 2024
The production quality is above average for Thai series. The graphics and CG are stunning. However, the storyline is still tacky and predictable like other typical Thai dramas.

The background behind the farm is too weak, we don't know who exactly created the farm and why. What's the cause of the disease? Why do they keep the mothers who are against the system instead of getting rid of them? Where are the fathers of the non-organic? Why didn't they take the fathers of the organic to the Farm? What are the criteria? I wish there were more scenes explaining these.

The fact that Val and the team can hack and spy on everything seems too easy and fortunate. There were many times I thought 'Yo, girl, if you do that in the real world, you would have been caught already' This series is indeed a challenge for viewers to put their logic aside and just consume what they have to offer.

The character is not so realistic. I hope we can one day overcome the 'goofy female lead' culture. I understand that they want to portray Day as a non-privileged girl with a pure heart. Still, I don't think making her overly quirky, goofy, gluttonous, talking to herself a lot, and widening her eyes at the camera all the time is a realistic and natural reflection of down-to-earth and innocence. Day would've been more charming if they let Day be Day without exaggeration.

Other characters like Bovy and Max are unrealistically cringey and cheesy. Some gentlemen's personalities can be developed to match their age. The only character I think is natural, cute, and well-portrayed is May, Day's sister. She does remind me of a lil sister next door.

Chanel's outfits, makeup, and hair can be elevated since she is an 'it girl' Lily (the actress) is very beautiful and chic but her makeup seems too light and doesn't bring out her pretty features very well. She is the second lead but at least her role is an it girl, so giving her better makeup and hairstyle wouldn't hurt.

The city ground seems too flowers and butterflies. It looks even better than Day's flat tbh. If the place to live against the law looked that nice, everyone would have already moved there. The place could look less pleasant since it is a place to hide from the gov.

After all, it's a loosely structured love story with a very light touch on gender equality and humanity that failed to reflect or solve anything. It does have some potential but there are still plenty of spots to work on. The questions I have above, for example. Sun's and Val's families can be elaborated a lot more. Why Chanel's mother is so fixated on getting Son as a son-in-law? Why is Son always the center of all guys? Is it just because he is the most popular or is it because of his mysterious family background?

I believe this story can go much further and give deeper value if additional time is spent on developing the story. It could go super dark with a bigger scale like Squid Game, or it could bring out more action scenes like Black Knight. Ready Set Love's plot already shares some similarities with Black Knight; an unfair system where most citizens are fooled and taken advantage of; the poor main lead is used to promote fake equality. However, with the same core. They take different emphases and give different outcomes and values. While Black Knight focuses on the progression of the main lead who gradually unveils the dirty secrets of the system and takes it down, Ready Set Love focuses heavily on the bubbly side of the game show without providing any solid reasons, motivations, or backgrounds to the root of the Farm.

Based on my taste, it would be a better move to have Val as the main character and Day as the second lead helping her crack the secrets. The date show would be 1/3 of the story and the rest will be about ripping off the mask of the system with more backgrounds of each family scattered throughout the story. They can twist it any other way but I just hope they find a better balance between romance and supporting scenes that helps the story sensible.

Anyways, it's not the worst guys. Easy to digest, perfect for watching while having a meal. Enjoy.

It's hard to take it seriously
fssubulade17 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
It's a cute Thai drama that doesn't take itself too seriously, tbe sets being bright in colors and lighting. The script is cartoonish at times thag adds to its charms. It's a cute fun show that you don't need to think too hard about.

However soon it starts to try and created a darker theme and plot by literally making the scene and more specifically the screen darker. It's harsh and tries to manually force the watcher to take it seriously. Which it fails at.

I couldn't take it seriously when they showed how the game is rigged and they viewed the men on the farm as cattle. It's obvious that would be the case, it's a "no dur" moment. I would've fathered they kept the fun way writing style throughout the show but they most likely did it to show how the show is propaganda.

The awful and cringey kiss between the two leads (who had barely a sprinkle of chemistry) really sealed its fate as a forgettable show.

Watchable, Had Potential But Ends up Nothing Special.
revobazkflip18 February 2024
The concept was okay, Wished they didn't choose the same color schemes, as squid games which makes it feels like a knockoff where the movie could have been more than that. They should have spent time on their originality as they did on their production and set designs.

The pacing of the story, and the intent the story is trying to go for is very predictable. And there are very few surprises coming from the plots.

The concept was the only layer they had. Where there could have layers over layers over layers. They tried to do that with the characters but their backstory and choices were predictable and K-dramaesque.

They were trying to come off with the balance of K-drama happiness and a conceptual seriousness.

This made their whole world unserious more than their concept had already made.

There are glimpses where the female lead shines but the male lead was only there for his face.

The only praise go to their intro motion graphics, and motion graphics throughout the episodes.

With all the talent you can see in the design of everything, it came off a disappointment due to their heavily inspired scripts.

Disappointed
kmnjtyjh19 February 2024
I was giving this series a opportunity but the true is that the plot didn't give me what i was expecting, the acting was cringey but not sure if that was intentional or not i ended up dropping it at episode 3 i couldn't finish it. Netflix Thailand had good series like the thai cave rescue one was really good but i guess the kdrama type or lakorns are really not their specialty, anyway save some time and skip this the plot had so much potential but it was not what it could be like they were trying but couldn't succeed at all. The main character could have been a lot more charming and that would have helped the story but that didn't happen.

If you want to try and watch go ahead and see for yourself how disappointing it gets.
