Travis Braun’s screenplay Bad Boy, which follows a rescue dog who suspects that his loving new owner is a serial killer, topped the 2023 Black List today. The 19th edition, which was selected by more than 375 film executives, counts 76 feature screenplays by 80 writers.
Second place went to Justin Piasecki’s Stakehorse which follows a racetrack veterinarian who runs an off-the-books ER for criminals, and finds his practice and life in jeopardy when he’s recruited for his patient’s heist.
“This year, the industry was defined by a debate about the value of writers within it, and I think it’s inevitable that this year’s Black List means more than it has in the past,” said its founder Franklin Leonard. “I’ve been saying that writing is the lifeblood of the industry for almost twenty years now, and I’ll continue saying it until the industry actually starts acting like it.

The producers of CNBC’s “The Profit” have beaten a $30 million arbitration lawsuit filed by the trustee of a bankrupt contestant that appeared on the show in 2015.
Last year, Lynn E. Feldman, Esquire, the Chapter 7 trustee for the estate of Pennsylvania design company Precise Graphix, LLC, sued NBCUniversal, Camping World Inc., a vehicle retailer partially owned by Marcus Lemonis, and the production company Machete for $30 million in damages, alleging that the show committed fraud and breach of contract that led to the company’s bankruptcy in 2021.
In May, an arbitrator dismissed those claims, finding that they were “unsupported by competent, credible evidence.”
“Given the complete failure of competent, credible evidence supporting her allegations at the hearing, the Trustee cannot establish the required elements of the fourteen causes of action alleged in the Demand,” arbitrator Ann Jones wrote in the ruling revealed in bankruptcy court documents on Wednesday. “Even if one...

CNBC has lost some of its avarice for the long-running primetime series “American Greed.”
The documentary program, which examines white-collar crime, scams and embezzlement, among other business-focused wrongdoing, has been running on the NBCUniversal business-news channel since 2007, completing 15 seasons and 222 episodes, along with three spin-offs. In 2023, however, the series order was significantly smaller than those in the past, according to two people familiar with the matter, and production of original episodes has ceased for the moment.
“CNBC has not canceled ‘American Greed,'” the network said in a statement. Six new episodes ran between January 24 and March 7 of this year. Past seasons have included 12 episodes or more, according to one of the people familiar with the program
CNBC and the production company behind “American Greed,” Kurtis Productions, declined to make executives available for comment. It is possible that CNBC could run repeats of the show.

Max Meyers has at least one firm rule about his new CNBC program, and it might surprise some of the business-news outlet’s die-hards. “I told everyone, ‘No earnings,’” says Meyers, a veteran producer at the NBCUniversal-backed cable network. “I don’t want to hear that.”
No net income on CNBC? Such a dictate would be anathema on “Squawk Box,” the morning-news program that Meyers previously ran, but it might just stick on “Last Call,” a new 7 p.m. effort from CNBC executives that aims to keep business-news aficionados hanging out with the network until later in the evening. Over the past week, anchor Brian Sullivan, who is moving from a 5 a.m. roost on “Worldwide Exchange” to anchor the new evening show, has held forth on everything from Tesla to Salesforce during rehearsals, ready to give late-breaking news to CNBC’s market faithful.

Comcast and NBCUniversal are pushing Peacock out of the nest starting Wednesday, April 15, promising to unfurl a rich plume of 15,000-plus hours of streaming content, first for the cable giant’s own TV and internet customers.
Peacock is then slated to be available across the U.S. on July 15 — while NBCU is mulling the possibility of moving that up sooner — in various three tiers across mobile, web and connected-tv devices: paid with ads ($4.99 monthly); paid with no ads ($9.99 monthly); and completely free with ads with a truncated content lineup. With the national launch, Comcast (and Cox) subscribers also will have the option to get an ad-free version of the service for an additional $5 per month.
So what’s on the menu? Peacock will include live and on-demand content across current and past TV shows, movies, news, and late night programming, with some live sports once they resume post-pandemic. Most of...

There have been shows with the same theme in the past that managed to become household names such as The Extreme Makeover show, and The Profit just to name a few. Restaurant: Impossible much like the shows on that list is a one that has managed to fix over a dozen nearly failing restaurants.

Week after week on "Shark Tank," there's unpredictable drama as entrepreneurs try to get investments and investors battle each other. The products and businesses can range from bizarre to must-have. The sharks' attempts to get a deal can be incredibly emotional and dramatic. All the show does, though, is focus on the initial deal. Yes, between pitches, "Shark Tank" does have brief segments that provide updates on previous pitches. Those usually focus on entrepreneurs that got a deal. Sometimes, companies that failed to get an investment from a shark are also included. But those are brief, 90-second summaries, not an exploration of everything that happens after the show. After making an on-camera deal, the sharks and their teams do due diligence. That's when many of the deals fall apart. Whether or not the deal goes through, when the company's episode of "Shark Tank" usually means a huge boost of attention and sales.
