Adam West simply is pleased "Batman" made him a pop-culture icon of the 1960s, so remaining significant in the history of such characters is the icing on his cake.
The veteran actor is among the interviewees in "Superheroes: A Never-Ending Battle," a new three-part PBS documentary narrated by Liev Schreiber ("Ray Donovan") and airing in its entirety Tuesday, Oct. 15 (check local listings). Television's former "Wonder Woman," Lynda Carter, and Marvel Comics legend Stan Lee are among others who reflect on the popularity and endurance of characters that also encompass Superman, Spider-Man, Green Arrow and the X-Men.
"I hear it from thousands of people," West says to Zap2it -- in an interview for this article -- about the entertainment "Batman" provided (and continues to, on the nostalgia network Me-tv). "I did Salt Lake City's first Comic-Con recently, and it was like 75,000 people ... so they really turn out to see us,...

We told you last month about the PBS special presentation Superheroes: A Never-Ending Battle that would be premiering in October, and tonight’s the night! Tuesday nights are pretty jam-packed for Our Kind of Viewing, but this one looks like it should get some priority.
We have a TV spot and the clip from the first hour to get you primed, and the press release is included again below so you’ll get the full details, including the info on the accompanying book and Blu-ray.
Here’s a quick scheduling note: After the initial broadcast the three hours are broken into three one-hour parts and have slightly different titles, though at least in my area they will still be aired one right after the other. So if you’re thinking of DVR-ing it, check the titles and time carefully so you don’t miss out on any of the three hours.

Teen Beach Movie star Garrett Clayton has graduated from one Disney channel to another. He has landed a recurring role on ABC Family’s The Fosters, according to The Hollywood Reporter, which already stars his Teen Beach Movie co-star Maia Mitchell.

NBC seems to have been recruiting some big stars these days. Previously, Meg Ryan was said to be considering a comedy. Now Susan Sarandon, has signed on for a comedy starring and written by her daughter.

(Cbr) Despite the seemingly exponential popularity of superheroes in pop culture -- "Iron Man 3" and "The Avengers" both grossed more than a billion dollars each the previous two summers -- there are still many out there who don't necessarily take the genre very seriously. (There are still articles out there being written with "Bam! Pow!" in their headlines or intro paragraphs, after all.) The "Superheroes: A Never-Ending Battle" documentary airing on PBS Tuesday, Oct. 15, is the latest effort to start changing those attitudes. Directed by Michael Kantor and co-written by Kantor and Lawrence Maslon (they previously teamed on "Make...

Adam West is up for making a "Big Bang."
The iconic "Batman" of 1960s television was asked last weekend -- during a joint appearance with William Shatner at Salt Lake City's Comic-Con -- whether they'd consider doing guest shots with the superhero-obsessed characters of the CBS sitcom "The Big Bang Theory," which starts its seventh season Thursday, Sept. 26.
Shatner seemed more enthused by the prospect than West, whose response at the time was, "Maybe." In fact, the actor who was the Caped Crusader from 1966-68 on ABC (and also in a 1966 movie spinoff) confirms he would very much welcome a stint with Sheldon (Jim Parsons), Leonard (Johnny Galecki) and the rest of the "Big Bang" gang.
"My agent has called for a year," West tells Zap2it, "and has said, 'Do you want to do "Big Bang?" Do you want to do "Hot in Cleveland?" I think it would be nice,...

Liev Schreiber (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Showtime’s Ray Donovan) will host and narrate the upcoming series Superheroes: A Never-Ending Battle, which premieres October 8, 2013 at 9:00 p.m. Et. Here are the highlights from the press release, you can read the entire thing at the link below. Superheroes: A Never-ending Battle is the first documentary to examine the dawn of the comic book genre and its powerful legacy, as well as the evolution of the characters who leapt from the pages over the last 75 years and their ongoing worldwide cultural impact. It chronicles how these “disposable diversions” were subject to intense government scrutiny for their influence on American children and how they were created in large part by the children of immigrants whose fierce loyalty to a new homeland laid the foundation for a multi-billion-dollar industry that is an influential part of our national identity. Among the notable on-camera talents in...
