A Masterpiece of Comedy
Morgan2460112 March 2019
Starkid proves once again why they are one of the best theater companies of the 2010's. With a cast of amazing talent, writing that will leave you laughing non-stop, music that is beyond catchy, and so much more. If you want to kill two hours of time, do it with Twisted.

Masterpiece

I started watching starkid with their harry potter spoof, A very potter musical, which I thought very highly of and thoroughly enjoyed. I then went on to twisted one evening and was immediately struck by its innate wit and great writing.

To start off with, the music is fantastic, from more upbeat numbers such as 'I steal everything' and 'take off your clothes'(both sung by the powerhouse Jeff Blim) to more deep and emotional numbers like 'Twisted', 'Happy Ending' and 'A thousand and one nights'. It incorporates elements of disney's song writing with starkid's intelligence.

The story is also riveting, being way better than the original aladdin in my opinion. All the characters are so well developed and provide so much comedy throughout the show.

Starkid also deliver yet again with their acting talent. With a phenomenal performance from Dylan Saunders as Ja'Far, to Jeff Blim's menacing Aladdin and Rachael Soglin's brilliant portrayal of the princess. And, of course, I can't say enough about Joe Walker's characters, especially the incredibly memorable prince achmed.

And, as if the cast, music and story wasn't enough, the comedy delivers on every front. From recurring jokes(some involving a tiger) to the Djinn at the tail end of the show, it kept me on the floor from start to finish.

Overall, one of my favourite musicals of all time and not only better than its source material but also better than Wicked, which many may compare it to.

Score:10/10.

Best musical ever
ascrompton24 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I think this is one of the best musicals ever created by starkid, possibly of all time.

The music is perfect for the plot and a great parody of disney music, and is a good as any disney music.

The casting choice is amazing with all the actors showing 110% effort. Listening to dylan Saunders sing is like someone is pouring honey in your ear. The harmonies and polyrhythms in many of the songs are beautiful and are written very well.

The way they managed to turn the plot of aladdin around to be in jafars favour and actually manage to make you like Jafar and feel sympathy for him. Plus the character arc of the princess is amazing as she actually got sort of what she wanted in the aladdin movie, with the not being tied down with suitors and being able to help poorer people.

I think it's so smart how they blow up a character like Ahmed and put his plot in the spotlight as that is so much more accurate than what happened in the movie.

This is a masterpiece of a comedy and a musical (better than broadway comedies)
joshuariches28 February 2023
Everything about this musical is phenomenal. From the characters, music, comedy, and everything else. My favourite part was the prince achmeds joke and my favourite songs are all of them (I couldn't rate my favourite song because it's that good). Jafar and Aladdin were such a dynamic duo because of how much they hate each other. This is better than wicked and Aladdin combined. If you are a Disney fan and want to kill 2 hours, watch this. And if you love this musical check out the guy who didn't like musicals, vhs christmas carol, a very potter musical, sequel and senior year. Starkid please bring this back.

Twisted: come for the comedy stay for the amazing songs and characters
omaaron6 April 2022
This is not only the funniest musical I have ever seen, it also has very good characters and emotional moments. Not only did "I steal everything" have me on the floor, but "1001 nights" was a beautiful love song too. I would recommend this to everyone and I have.

An Aladdin Retelling that Rivals the Original
theobenjaminsloan7 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
First of all, Team Starkid predicted the Cruella movie 8 years before it happened. Second of all, this is such a masterpiece of a show! The comedy is a laugh a minute, the emotional moments are given room to breathe without being undercut by jokes, the songs are shockingly great even by Starkid standards, and it actually serves as an accurate parody of the Disney Corporation's progression throughout the 21st century.

Also, Jeff Blim is a god damn treasure and his performance as Aladdin is iconic. Also also, everyone else is great in this as well!

This fairly low budget show, produced by a musical theatre troupe that got its start in the University of Michigan producing a Harry Potter Parody Musical with practically no funds, is unironically better than at least 80% of Disney's own Live Action remakes/retellings. Even the ones I liked, such as Cinderella or the Jungle Book, or hell even Cruella and Maleficent, just can't compare. And that is both a harsh critique of everything Disney stands for as a company, as well as an enormous credit to Starkid.

10/10.

Amazing show.
haileythellamalime19 September 2023
I was genuinely not expecting to love this as much as I did. I'm an enjoyer of musical comedies, but this really exceeded my expectations. It has amazing comedy while also still having heart and a story that you get genuinely invested in. The songs are memorable, the characters are hilarious, and I will definitely check out more of starkids shows after this. If you haven't seen it already, definitely give it a watch. The use of parody and references to the original work is done incredibly well, and even if you've never seen the original Aladdin this would still be a great time. The cast is great and I genuinely got really invested in the story. 10/10.
