"Everything is good"

Warning: Spoilers
To begin with, I got my hopes up on Skin's Pure, because Cassie is the most unpredictable and well-written character in Skins, but when Pure Part 1 aired, I was disappointed of how boring and pointless it was, it didn't feel like skins at it. I was so hoping that the mysterious stalker would turn out to be Sid, and that would be a surprise for the viewers. Instead, it turned out to be some new character we do not really care about.

However, as Pure Part 2 aired, I did not expect much since I was disappointed by Part 1, but somehow, the episode kept getting better and better. The broken-hearted father, and the cute little brother who have grown up. This feels like real life. The cinematography is extra magnificent, as the night club feels like one of those Skins' usual parties, well, it's not. People dance as Cassie's pictures create a beautiful atmosphere. This episode showed everyone the beauty of Hannah Murray.

This beauty is not only visually stunning, but also profound and you can feel outbursts of emotions packed in 47 minutes. You can feel that you are watching Skins. That usual Skins' feeling mixed with tears of joy. After watching this episode I was like, "seriously, who needs Sid?" for he has always been a bad boyfriend and Cassie can do better. The last seen shows that Cassie is no longer that weird teenager with eating disorder who cannot even take care of herself. She is a grown-up who can look after her little brother and who can manage to live alone in a big city. Yes, Cassie, "everything is good."

Pure Parts 1&2: Like a post-apocalyptic tale of bleakness and isolation
tomgoodwin81522 June 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I was conflicted about what to say about Pure, as it can be viewed in many different ways. Firstly, Cassie's return is a delight for every fan of the original Skins generation. She was one of the best and most interesting characters of the first two seasons, and therefore of Skins as a whole. For viewers of the season 2 finale left disappointed by the ambiguity of the ending of Cassie and Sid's tale, Pure pretty much provides an answer after all the years. Although it isn't explicitly confirmed, we assume that Cassie is talking about Sid when she describes travelling around America with someone. As usual, Hannah Murray gives a brilliant performance, which she never failed to do in the first two seasons. Pure is beautifully made in parts; I particularly love the long camera shot of London at night when Cassie looks out of her window, and also the scene at the end of part 1 when Jakob walks up behind her. The music makes it all the more moving as well. It's probably open to a variety of interpretations, but for me, Pure is largely about Cassie finally becoming accepted by into society and recognised for who she is. After years of struggling with self- harm, anorexia and depression, and ignored and neglected (by her parents, even by Sid at times), Jakob's obsession and idolisation of Cassie and her beauty is basically a symbol for her finally being appreciated by those around her, and perhaps finding her place. At least that's what I think Pure was trying to convey. But my problem with Pure is that, to put it simply, it just didn't feel right. It was tragic and emotional, but not in the way I would have hoped for. Watching Cassie isolated and alone without the rest of the original cast that we loved was sad to watch, and I deeply wish that they could have brought back Tony, Michelle etc for these episodes. Surely they could have at least given Sid a scene or two, as him and Cassie always worked best on screen when they were together. Perhaps some kind of college reunion 5-10 years later would have worked better, rather than just Cassie on her own. Ultimately, Pure feels essentially like a post-apocalyptic tale of sorts; as if everything good has already been and gone, and we are now simply looking at remnants of a bygone era, where almost everything has moved on. The problem is, I didn't want any of it to go. Skins was always about relationships and friendships, and Pure just doesn't feel like that. Instead it seems to be a story of isolation, demonstrating that nothing really lasts forever. Overall, fans of Skins 1&2 may find Pure worth watching, for the return of a beloved character and for what it is, it's reasonably good. But it simply doesn't match up to what fans of the original generation are used to, whilst being heartbreaking and mournful, and not in a good way. To properly say goodbye to Cassie, Tony, Sid, Jal and all the others, it's better to watch the season 2 finale.

Everything Is Good
chocolatepopcorn20 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Calling back to the original generation, Cassie finds a boy named Jakob who weaves his way into her life by jealousy & stalking, similarly to Sid who bullied & manipulated her and even got jealous which seemed to turn away Cass... And this turned her away from Jakob as well. However, Jakob made Cass famous, taking pictures of her which got her recognized by a big name company that paid her for her modeling. Jakob then got jealous of this, even going as far as to assume she had been sleeping with other men like the head of said company. The stalking gets worse & Yaniv takes Cassie home concerned for her well being, but probably just to mess around with her. A conflict arises and Yaniv finds Jakob has been following them around, he beats up Jakob and the blood gushes. But Cassie just wants to appreciate what she and Jakob had rather than hold a grudge like she did toward Sid. In the first generation we saw the same promiscuous girl give into the first person fancying her, Sid, and because of how she was treated this led to her going off the deep end. The dichotomy here is different, even through Jakob's mania he told Cassie she was "beautiful and pure", something she's probably never been told, because of this or just because of how much more responsible she's become in a decent amount of ways, she sees that Jakob was right by continuing to model even after they broke up... She somehow finds the courage to mend and let her Father take a "vacation" to Italy while she takes care of her absolutely adorable and hilarious little brother Reuben. The only problem I have with these two episodes is the introduction of Maddie, she didn't serve much of a purpose in the development or even for Cassie, she was just introduced as a new character that seemed infectious from the get-go and that we could have learned a lot more about.. Though, it was good to see Cassie finally talking to the people living in her building or at least starting to. This whole series 7 has been like watching a movie, even though I hope we still get an actual film at some point. Something tells me Cassie is going to be great at filling the role her mother can't for Reuben because she passed so young in his life, who after doing some calculating, would have died when he was somewhere between the ages of 2-6 considering we hadn't heard of Cassie's mom being dead until this series. If you look back at the series 2 finale, you'll find that pictures were already taken of Cass somewhat similar to the pictures taken throughout these past 2 episodes, leaving Cassie's character arc destined from the beginning. Magnificent.

"That's all we get"
lilcreek41714 January 2019
I don't understand why "pure" has the lowest rating of all the 7th season. Cassie is such a beautiful character, complex and interesting while still being simple and pure.

When Yaniv says to Jakob "that's all we get" I think it shows that of all the people who are around and taken in by Cassie he is somehow the only one who understands her. That scene is so powerful and so wonderfully sums up Cassie's character.

If you have been a "skins" fan from the beginning from the first two seasons which I think are the best, and if you do too, you will love "pure"

Modelling

Warning: Spoilers
The photographer and Cassie go to her dad's beach house next to a lighthouse. Her dad is clearly still out if it after her mom died and is spending time smoking and getting drunk. Rueben, her little brother who is only 6, isn't going to school because the father is so depressed.

The father thinks they are together and gives them his bedroom. Cassie says it isn't like that. Later Cassie strips off her top with her back turned and they sleep in bed together. Rueben comes in saying dad got the vodka again and snuggles next to Cassie.

Cassie returns to her apartment and goes clubbing where photos of her are shown on a slideshow. She talks to the photographer who is in the office building across.

At work Yaniv suspects Cassie is not sleeping with the boy. He seems interested in Cassie?

Cassie gets scouted by a modelling agent and goes to the photoshoot. Lots of pretty blondes are standing around. She goes to the shooting room and there are women in their underwear and nude standing around amongst racks of clothes. She gets her makeup and hair done.

At work Yaniv and a black girl marvel at her photos and how wonderful they look. The photographer is jealous and gets angry.

Yaniv offers to take Cassie back to his home where he takes off his top. Cassie strips one layer off and he checks her out. Cassie receives an email from the photographer of her kissing Yaniv. Yaniv goes outside and fights him. Cassie stalks off after.

Back at the apartment Cassie looks out to see her dad and bro. Dad stopped drinking for four weeks and two days. Cassie offers to take care for her brother instead of having her bro tag her dad to Italy. Cassie sets the tone saying dad has been sad so he is going on this trip - because mum died says Rueben - because mum died says Cassie.
