Vanilla Ice has a series on TV called The Vanilla Ice Project. It takes place in Florida. Mainly he takes properties and updates them and renovates them and then turns around and sells them. He is very good at doing construction work, landscaping and interior design.
For this particular series, he went to Ohio to work with the Amish people there. There are 5 episodes in this series. He arrives at a farm in Ohio where he will be staying the entire time that he is there. He stays with an Amish man that is in charge of coordinating any building projects that need to be done in the area. Throughout the entire series he is also helping out with some of the farm chores. He helps plant a garden, do laundry, etc. I won't give it all away. You will want to watch to see what all he helps with and how well he does.
In the first episode he helps completely renovate and update a 150 year old kitchen. The lady of the house has been working to try and help make ends meet as her husband was recently injured and unable to work. Vanilla Ice (Rob) does a really good job of redoing her kitchen. It is stunning when it is all done.
In the second show he works with a couple of Amish guys that are really good at stone masonry. They are doing a job for a couple that are expecting a child. The family they are working for is not Amish, but the lady says that it is quite common for non Amish people to hire the Amish to do work for them because the Amish do such exceptional work. They design an outdoor patio and pergola for the couple.
The third episode Rob is helping to redo a basement for a Mennonite family. The Mennonites are different from the Amish in that they have electricity and they wear modern clothing. So, for this project, Rob and the Amish crew are making an entertainment center as well as redecorating and updating the space to be more modern looking.
In episode four, Rob updates a farmhouse for one of the Amish guys that he has been working with. It needs new siding and windows. He extends the porch and does some light landscaping. He also ends up winning a buggy from a bet that he makes and takes it to a local Amish man that works on buggies. He gets it all pimped out.
In the final episode of this series, Rob gets to learn how the Amish put up a barn. For this one he brings in the crew that he always works with in Florida. For the other four episodes it was just Rob and the Amish people. Because it is such a large project, he wanted to have a lot of people on hand. They are going to build a whole new barn in only two days. At one point, as they are putting up a couple of walls, they have a contest between the Amish crew and Rob's crew to see who can finish their wall the fastest.
I really like his regular series and this one was great fun as well. Throughout each episode there would be little yellow bubbles that would pop up giving more information about the Amish. Very interesting and educational to see what kinds of differences there are between them and us, as well as differences among the different Amish groups. I learned some new things from the projects he did, got some great ideas and was entertained by the comradery between him and those he worked with.
Rob had a really great time with the Amish people. He never acted like a celebrity, but was right in there helping them with everything and always had a terrific attitude. He was not used to doing all that farm work, but he pitched right in, learned things pretty quickly and never really complained. He even learns a little Amish and can now say a few phrases.
