Paulo left out a LOT of the story. If this is his "best story" then I don't want to read the worst.
There's nothing about the origin of his religious fanaticism, his mysticism, his interest in magic, or any time spent to tell you about his life between his attempt at suicide and his trip to Amsterdam. At least while I could stand to watch it.
How did he get to be rich? How did he make his mark in the music industry? Why is he interested in the dark or at least occult side of Catholicism? We aren't told.
How does he meet Chris? What does she find attractive about him?
We're just kind of thrust into this weird story and left to figure things out with many of the pieces missing. Much like his books.
