Photo: ‘I Am Here’ Ella Blumenthal Directed by Jordy Sank, ‘I Am Here’ opens up with a montage of antisemitic remarks from news clips. The compilation ends with a host reciting a letter by Holocaust survivor, Ella Blumenthal, and her comments towards an antisemitic user on social media. Rather than condemning the Holocaust denier, the host thoughtfully recites Ella’s letter which notes: “that there is more that unites us, than divides us.” Related article: Must Watch – The Hollywood Insider’s CEO Pritan Ambroase’s Love Letter to Black Lives Matter – Video Subscribe to The Hollywood Insider’s YouTube Channel, by clicking here. Small and mostly sweet, this film selection buoys us up in the wake of the pandemic with an upbeat view of relationships
Just as many of us grasped for connections during lockdown, the pandemic has inspired Eunic London, an umbrella organisation for EU cultural institutions, to dwell on the meaning of relationships for this year’s showcase for European short films, put together by curator Shira Macleod. Not all are – as the strand’s subtitle would have it – loving encounters: break-ups, bureaucratic frustration and unsettling alien fauna crop up, too. And the one explicitly Covid-related work, Romanian director Alina Manolache’s mesmerising I Am Here, features relationships by their absence: the social vacuum on display in CCTV footage from the Trevi Fountain, Chinese pharmacies, a British golf course and other depopulated locations around the world.

Chile’s Chilemonos International Animation Festival, the country’s largest event dedicated to celebrating its rapidly expanding animation scene, kicked off its second entirely online edition last week, and will run through July 25.
2021 is a milestone year for the festival, marking a decade since its inaugural edition. Since then, the festival has grown exponentially and become the only Academy Award qualifying event for animated shorts in Latin America. Once again this year, organizers are predicting record numbers of attendees on the event’s digital platform and are eagerly looking forward to an in-person event in 2022.
Uniquely, and excitingly for animation fans across Central and South America, Chilemonos’ entire competition and events lineup will be accessible across Latin America free of charge, supported by an alliance with the OndaMedia platform – which hosts the online version of the fest – and the Department of Culture at Chile’s Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage.

In the 9 p.m. Et hour, Fox News’ Hannity, guest-hosted by former Gop Rep. Ad-supported cable business’ fortunes continue to decline unless it’s live programming – news and sports.
Cable news networks Fox News and MSNBC and sports-focused ESPN repeated as 1-2-3 atop all basic cable networks in total viewers in Live+7 Nielsen ratings for 2019. That is all the more impressive because live non-entertainment programming gets very little delayed viewing, and even more important for advertisers who put a premium on ad-supported content where commercials can’t be skipped.
Fox News was the top-rated basic cable network among total viewers for a fourth year in a row, with an average of 2.57 million in L+7. In second place was a news network on the other side of the deepening partisan fault line, MSNBC, with 1.80 million, according to Nielsen. CNN notched an average of 1 million.

Brian Williams closed out MSNBC’s The 11th Hour on Tuesday with a segment on the California wildfires, including the unprecedented nature of the “extreme red flag warning” issued by the National Weather Service and the long hours and poor working conditions faced by firefighters.
But he also addressed the level of coverage paid by the networks to the wildfires, which have forced evacuations of thousands of homes on Los Angeles’ Westside and in Simi Valley.
While the fires are getting attention — for instance, Lester Holt has been anchoring NBC Nightly News from Los Angeles, and David Muir will be based there Wednesday for ABC’s World News Tonight –– Williams suggested that the sense of urgency would be far different if the disaster was taking place closer to the home base of the networks. The climate crisis is a frequent visitor to the plot of Hollywood movies, sometimes as a catalyst in disaster pics such as “The Day After Tomorrow,” sometimes as part of an allegory about Mother Earth, as Jennifer Lawrence and Darren Aronofsky have said is the case in “Mother!” The bombastic depictions of global warming and the havoc it portends have typically been more limited to fiction than documentary, save for the theatrical impact of “An Inconvenient Truth” in 2006.

Twelve years ago, Leonardo DiCaprio teamed up with Leila Conners to blast an environmental wake-up call to the world with “The 11th Hour,” warning of the dire consequences of unchecked climate change. More than a decade later, the political leaders most able to do something continue to ignore the issue, but while the cataclysmic effects of global warming become ever clearer, scientists and significant swathes of the public are trying to make a difference. That’s the focus of “Ice on Fire,” a deeply conventional though attractive documentary designed to reinforce just how bad things are getting while offering hope by concentrating on realistic proposals that can reign in climate change and even reverse its effects. Premiering at Cannes in advance of its June 11 launch on HBO, the film will likely garner a decent viewership via the network’s streaming platforms.

"Is it game over...? Or is it game on? As we have at hand, the ability, the capacity, and solutions that can reverse global warming... not mitigate, not reduce, not stabilize, but reverse?" HBO has debuted an official trailer for the documentary Ice on Fire, which is premiering today at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival. This urgent, inspiring new documentary focuses on many never-before-seen solutions designed to slow down our escalating environmental crisis. It's produced by Oscar-winner Leonardo DiCaprio, George DiCaprio, with Mathew Schmid, and is directed by Leila Conners (The 11th Hour). This isn't the only DiCaprio produced climate doc, the other one being And We Go Green which also got a new trailer this week. Even though some say there are too many climate change docs, in all honesty, there are not enough. And we will continue to highlight them and talk about them as this still is the...

Brian Williams was back on the upfronts stage Monday after a couple of years out of the annual confab’s spotlight, talking about the upcoming “most consequential Presidential election in our country for generations to come.”
Williams, host of MSNBC’s The 11th Hour With Brian Williams, was part of the NBC News portion of NBCUniversal’s annual upfront presentation to advertisers today at Radio City Music Hall in New York. He was joined by NBC Nightly News anchor Lester Holt, Today’s Savannah Guthrie, NBC/MSNBC’s Chuck Todd, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow, NBC/Telemundo’s Jose Diaz-Balart and CNBC’s Becky Quick onstage for the roughly five-minute presenation.
“This coming year, the world will be watching,” Williams told the crowd of the 2020 election season (it’s certainly good news for political advertising).

Brian Williams didn’t have much to say when he made an appearance Monday at NBCUniveral’s massive “upfront” programming presentation. But his presence on stage spoke volumes.
Four years ago at this time, Williams tenure at the company seemed precarious. He was in the midst of a suspension, and taken off “NBC Nightly News.” Today, he stood alongside NBC News and MSNBC and CNBC colleagues like Becky Quick, Rachel Maddow, Lester Holt, Savannah Guthrie, Jose Diaz-Balart and Chuck Todd – an emissary of the big media corporation once again.
“Remember when we said the last election would be the most consequential in a decade?” asked Williams during a section of the presentation devoted to news programming. “We were right.” He followed with: “This coming year, the world will be watching as we cover perhaps the most consequential election of our lifetime. It’s an election that will define our nation for years to come,...

ABC, CBS, and NBC — preempting their usual daytime TV lineups — will air live reports as Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday.
The highly anticipated event, which is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. Et on Thursday, Sept. 27, will also be covered by live cable news networks and live-streamed on the internet.
Kavanaugh has now been accused by three women of sexual misconduct. Ford was the first to come forward, saying that Kavanaugh assaulted her at a high school party in 1982. Kavanaugh has repeatedly denied the accusations, and told Fox News’ Martha MacCallum in an interview Monday that he was a virgin “in high school or for many years thereafter.”
Some Republican senators including Susan Collins (R.-Maine) have remained undecided about whether to vote to confirm Kavanaugh, and Thursday’s hearing may determine the outcome of his nomination by President Donald Trump.

No Rachel Maddow, no problem for MSNBC. The Rachel Maddow Show extended its winning streak over all of cable to four nights on Friday, despite Ali Velshi filling in as its host.
Buoyed by last week’s tsunami of news related to President Donald Trump and the Russia investigation, Trms was the most-watched program on cable again as the work week ended. Airing at the 9 Pm Et/6 Pm Pt. it drew 2.62 million viewers, beating out Fox News’ Hannity and Tucker Carlson Tonight. That was down from near-record number of 3.89 million on Tuesday — when the Paul Manafort verdict came in and Michael Cohen surrendered to the FBI before implicating Trump in a federal crime — and also a dip from the Maddow-hosted Wednesday and Thursday airings.

President Donald Trump’s really bad week has been a ratings bonanza for Rachel Maddow.
For a third night in a row, Maddow’s MSNBC program was highest rated across all of cable TV Thursday night. Her program averaged 3.674M viewers, 758K of them in the 25-54 year age bracket that news programs target.
Maddow’s third consecutive nightly win accompanied headlines that Trump’s longtime pal National Enquirer chief David Pecker had been given immunity in the investigation of Trump’s former personal lawyer/fixer Michael Cohen.
And, for a third consecutive night, MSNBC topped primetime cable news in both total viewers (2.869M) and in the news demographic (560K), besting Fnc, and CNN.
Five MSNBC programs ranked in the Top-10 in total viewers. In addition to Maddow, that included The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell at No. 3, No. 6-ranked All In with Chris Hayes, No. 8-ranked The 11th Hour with Brian Williams, and Hardball with Chris Matthews at No. 9.
In her 9 Pm timeslot, Maddow beat Fnc’s Hannity and CNN’s Cuomo Prime Time. Sean Hannity’s show was the night’s No. 2 ranked cable program in total viewers.
Other Fnc shows to make Thursday’s Top-10: Tucker Carlson Tonight, The Ingraham Angle, and The Story.

President Donald Trump’s really bad Tuesday was one of Rachel Maddow’s best days ever.
MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show was Tuesday’s most-watched cable program. Maddow’s 9 Pm show scored 3.89 million viewers, 881K of them in the 25-54 age bracket. Maddow pounded her 9 Pm cable news competitors in both metrics, including perennial front-runner Hannity on Fox News Channel and CNN’s Cuomo Prime Time.
It was Maddow’s second-highest-rated day ever — behind only her much-lampooned March 16, 2017, program when she scored Trump’s 2005 tax return document — and attracted 4.13 million viewers, with 1.4M of them in the news demo.
This time, Maddow was propelled by the news that Trump’s former attorney/fixer Michael Cohen had turned himself in and pleaded guilty to eight counts of tax and bank fraud and campaign finance violation, while — at nearly same time — a jury found Trump’s former...

Victoria's Secret Angel Adriana Lima is appearing to put her foot down when it comes to disrobing.

"I had received a call for the possibility of filming a sexy video of me to be posted and shared in social media," Lima, 36, wrote on Instagram. "Even though I have done many of this type, something had changed in me, when a friend approached me to share that she was unhappy with her body."
The Brazilian bombshell has posed for racy -- and even naked -- photo shoots for magazines in the past, but she now says that she is ready to "make that change."

It hasn’t been an easy year for either Nick and Aaron Carter, but the brothers have each others’ backs.
After feuding on public forums this summer, the Backstreet Boy reached out to his younger brother on Twitter to wish Aaron — and his twin sister Angel — a happy 30th birthday.
“Happy birthday to my baby brother and sister @angelcarter and @aaroncarter,” Nick, 37, wrote early Thursday.
Aaron responded, “You’re an awesome person bro! I’m always in your corner.”
The siblings’ strained relationship came into the spotlight after Aaron was arrested on DUI and marijuana charges in Georgia in July.

What reason was it that prevented me from enjoying this particular comic book TV show? Was it that Fox’s X-Men timeline/movie universe is impossible to decipher? Was it that the trailers weren’t appealing enough? Well, perhaps in part, these factors turned me away, but they’re not the main culprit.
What soured me on ‘The Gifted’ was the distasteful marketing presented at San Diego Comic Con. Simply put, Fox created a marketing campaign mimicking propaganda similar to that used by Nazi Germany imagery to advertise The Gifted.
