Can't decide if I like it or not...
arod_8514 January 2020
This show is not horrible. In fact, it is interesting enough for me to keep watching each episode as it appears on my DVR. However, this show hardly keeps me longing for the next episode. It's a show that is good enough to watch when there is nothing else on, but is by no means a "must see". It's interestingly boring if that makes any sense. The characters are all unlikable, and not in a good way that makes them captivating or sympathetic villains. They are stereotypical mean girls that aren't interesting enough to love or love to hate. The adults aren't any better than the kids as there is not a single role model for the cheerleaders because the adults are all flawed. It tries to sound "deeper" than it really is by having the narrator use phrases like "it was beautiful until it went to far" or "nothing is as scary as a bored teenage girl", but it comes across a little like its trying too hard to be a groundbreaking teenage drama like 13 Reasons Why or Euphoria. I am about 3 episodes in so we will see if it improves as it progresses.

Dark.

That's why I like this show. I am reading the book now but so far it's told in the same narrative style and doesn't leave many things out. Beth legitimately reminds me of girls I have been friends with in the past and is extremely relatable. All of the other characters other than Colette French the cheer coach. I suppose I also related to Sam but I don't want to give any spoilers away. This show doesn't hide behind the facade most shows featuring teenager girls do, but instead shows you a gritty truth behind codependency, infatuation, lies, regrets and a true competitive nature. As someone who played sports and has had many girlfriends, this can't be more true. I have never met anyone more competitive than a woman and this show exposes all of the insecurities that come with such a inherent nature.

Not sure why it's getting some bad reviews
christeasdale-267765 April 2020
I kinda expected to see some negative reviews on IMDb as it's basically a forum for whiners to complain these days. And since the cast is mostly female I definitely expected some people to see it as pushing a "feminist agenda". But when reading the negative reviews it seemed these people actually did give the show a chance but it just wasn't for them. Which is fair enough but when saying watching the show was a waste of time, why waste more time writing a review on it?? I never bother writing reviews for something I didn't enjoy. In fact I only ever write reviews for things that not only I enjoyed but I feel are getting a lot of hate for no reason. Like I said, this has become a place for people who simply like to complain. Probably more than watching tv or movies. I mean one user didn't like the show because it was about a cheerleading squad. Erm you could see that from the trailer which is something you should always watch first. So they can't really blame the show for their own stupidity.

The show, in my opinion is good. If, like me, you enjoy mystery dramas, I would say give it a go. If it's not for you, move on to something else. If I want a critical opinion about a show. I'll read something by an actual critic who gets paid to point out flaws. Not some random with a superiority complex who states their own opinions like they're facts. If one of those types is reading this, you're not that special. No matter what your mum tells you.

Wish there was a season 2

Super suspenseful and chaotic. At times this show was a little slow and other times it was super messy. I do like the darkness behind the show and also the dynamic of the cheer squad.

Dare Me
Dragonborn6421 March 2020
Though I think it's unfair to write a review based on 2 or 3 episodes, it's true Dare Me moves at a very slow pace. 10 episodes could have been almost halved. The angst of teenage girls is a main theme yet I feel only the surface is scratched. The lead actress who plays Abby is fine but too old and sophisticated looking for the part. A real 16-17 year old would have been more effective. And finally- the finale- the payoff cliffhanger is not worth the long trail to get there.

Wrong description!
dayna833 May 2020
A senior does not plot revenge against those who expelled her. That is not what the show is about at all... A senior and her besties loyalties are put to the test when a new coach is assigned to their cheerleading squad to bring them to the top! Loyalty, and jealousy ensue. Great show! The acting is fantastic!

Great show.
This show made me feel many feelings. It wasn't what I was expecting, but I loved the cast cheer-leading and relationships between the people. Who to trust who not to trust and one clear message always question if your thoughts are your own or from another person.

It's really sad this show is cancelled and we don't see the end of it.

So dissapointed that there is no season 2
anast5556 May 2020
This show was actually much better than usual teen shows with fairytales and boring love stories. It was darker, it showed the hard part of being a cheerleader and the efforts they have to make, unlike most shows where cheerleaders are nothing but popular girls. I'm really dissapointed that there won't be anymore seasons, while other dumb shows last long.

Well...
AnnaPagrati27 August 2021
I kinda liked it? I kinda didn't? I was enjoying it, and at some point I was like, wait, what? Really strange connection, sometimes with no point whatsoever. But a show easy to see. 7/10!

Vapid, unlikeable characters
Renagle122 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I know a show about normal people doing normal things isn't interesting, but I can't get past how outrageously ignorantly the Marines are being portrayed and the fact the cheerleading coach is so morally bankrupt in her own personal life.

Drinking with her teenage squad at her house? Rendezvousing with her lover with a teenage girl in tow?

Bullying, again? Queen Bee cheerleader captain, sociopath? It's all so cliché and this subject matter-done to death but now adding more depravity makes these cheerleaders look even more idiotic as they're children.

Ugh. If you like bankrupt, black souled people with no redeeming qualities whatsoever, this is the show for you. I'm glad I have teenage boys that are not interested in any of this garbage.

Great show. Description is wrong.
themixtapecritic16 March 2020
This show is fantastic. Dark, moody, relevant. But the description of revenge is wrong. Not what the show is about at all.

I liked the two main characters Beth and Addy
imbune_love11 April 2020
It is not a masterpiece, it kind of copied Euphoria in my opinion( with the slow motipn shots) but is watchable and it makes you want to know what will happen. I really liked the girls in the squad, they represent really well how teenagers actually are, their conversations are not cringe . Some things could have been a little better done, i do not think the actress that plays Coach is the best for this role, maybe I am wrong. She seems too innocent. Overall i enjoyed it

This show is something else...
anonym0usflash3 August 2020
I'm not sure I've seen anything this bad in a LONG time. I seriously couldn't finish it as it was just so boring. There was definitely potential for this to be good but it just wasn't. Every episode I kept waiting for something to happen, and it never did. This show is great at building suspense with no execution.

So many people are comparing it to Euphoria but this is far from it. Maybe they were trying to go for the same kind of thing but it fell flat on all levels. I didn't really find any of the characters too interesting as there wasn't enough time focusing on them. That, or they just did really unbelievable things.

Decent but way too long
alkocakdoruk29 May 2021
The first season could be a 2, 2.5 hour film without any loss of quality. I liked how there is no real villian and hero but because it progresses so slow it just becomes boring and predictable. Season 2 seems unlikely but i hope it comes out so there is at least some closure.

Many A Movie Has Covered This Same Thing In 2 Hours
davidsask31 December 2019
I don't hate this, but certainly not the love scale, Even though 8 more episodes to air. I am enjoying the acting of the villain. The coach and best friend just meh so far. As said in title this has been done many a time, different formats. I am curious how this will pan out for full series. There is not a lot to watch with current programs cable wise, (Netflix different ball game) so likely' too watch until end.. I agree with fellow poster with time airing, How is filmed, the soon to be more likely comparisons to Euphoria?! Anyone think or wish this was a series for binging?!6/10

I don't think I'll ever be content with all the one-trait characters after this show. I LOVE IT TOO MUCH
lena-boogie3 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Reading the comments of people that didn't like it breaks my heart but I also get them, which is weird. It's definitely not a show that's for everyone. It's obviously queer but people that expect more gay scenes to be involved say its queer-baiting. The story is slow, which I get, can be seen as boring but at least to me it took me around 3 episodes to actually like Beth and if anything bad had had happened before I wouldn't have felt sad for her at all. On top of that, the characters. I've never seen that we'll thought of characters! They all have amazingly annoying flaws like that Beth is super insensitive and Addy is blind concerning everything that happens with Coach (I know that's part of manipulation though). But I'm completely biased with all of them!!! Right now I actually feel like I'll won't be able to watch normal shows anymore cause the characters are almost always so blank.... The good girl, the mean girl and here you really can't say stuff like that. They all are so flawed and so complex and the characters are actually written that good that I actually even understand Coach... I don't know why I write this here, I just really need a season two

Superbly dark, twisting and gripping
CrimeTimeOG14 April 2020
Loved this show. Really dark and a slow burner but constantly gripping. I love how this character led drama built to it's climax rather than teasing about what was going to happen from the outset. Actually liked it more than Euphoria tbh. This new take on cheerleaders (not a lot of pep but a lot of darkness) was incredibly compelling and it didn't dumb down to it's audience which is I guess why some of the reviews say it's too slow. It's deliberately slow, allowing you time to get inside the characters heads and learn who they are. It's a perfect 10 for me.

'Dare Me' Accomplishes Its Objective
johnh222 January 2021
Televisions shows should be judged, in part at least, by whether it delivers on its implied promise to the intended audience.

'Dare Me' is a young adult show that delivers teen drama to it's intended audience, and actually surpassed my expectations. The show was not produced to be the next 'Breaking Bad,' but it was a successful show if you consider the audience and the intended outcome.

'Dare Me' is a drama/mystery/teen show about a high school drill team's quest for success, it focuses on three main characters - the coach and two team members. The show on the surface appeared to be about teenage drama and angst, but 'Dare Me' takes a strong turn toward crime and mystery - very interesting. 'Dare Me' really picks up steam towards the end of the season, so you should watch all episodes before passing final judgement.

The acting and production is good, while the writing is surprisingly engaging/ twisty for a show in its genre. Best of all, 'Dare Me' does not seem to be on track to progress without any meaningful resolutions like some shows ('Pretty Little Liars' or 'Lost.')

A side note, I have never seen an active duty Marine wear his hair so long - does not affect my review though.

jbaillieirwin25 March 2020
I enjoyed this show, although it does drag a little in places and it has quite a slow pace. Enjoyed the characters, and the storyline but I knew what was coming so don't expect amazing tv. It's worth the try. Favourite thing about the show: the soundtrack

Not good at all
SnapbacksAndSneakers24 February 2020
Boring, unrealistic, bad acting, and not one single character is likable. I keep waiting for something big and exciting to happen and it never does. It always tries to be dramatic and mysterious, but it's not that at all cause nothing happens! I'm disappointed at the end of every episode even though I should be used to it by now. Even if one of the characters does die, I don't think I'll even care at this point especially since I don't like any of them. Don't waste your time watching this like I have.

Loved Beth and Addy-Coach French, not so much
jarbuck10 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Spoilers throughout: Sometimes it's difficult for me to suspend my disbelief. Having been a cheer coach and a 15 year educator, there are too many flaws in Coach for me to believe that she wouldn't have been disciplined or even fired during her time at the school. This example may seem small, but she's smoking in her office-students get suspended for having any form of nicotine on them. Obviously, the parties at her house would NOT go unnoticed. The fact that Tacy was not discipled, even with a stern talk, after disobeying Coach and kicking Riri in the face is unacceptable. Coach French's lack of concern about bullying/the mental health of the squad is especially disconcerting. (This year alone, our school lost two students to suicide and in my classes alone, two young ladies went out of state to psychiatric facilities.) Administration would call her out for all of these things. Oh, the cheer where they shout "f+++" and point finger guns at each other... That would never happen either. "F+++" in a cheer? No. Making gun gestures...not since Columbine. Anyway, I am aware that NO movie or TV series gets school correct on screen, but this show really got to me.

I do, however, enjoy watching the relationship between Beth and Abby. Theirs is a rich and nuanced relationship. I understand why Coach French is essential in depicting Abby's tug of war allegiance, but each girl has her own struggles while growing through this phase of losing control. Beth loses being the Captain of the cheer squad which was all she had given her home life. Then she suffers a rape that she only recalls in pieces, all while Abby is being manipulated by Coach French. Abby may even have to suffer dire consequences once she realizes that Coach really doesn't have her back. I love Beth and Addy equally and I hope that Beth can land on her feet and confide in someone (Abby for a start?) before her anger consumes her.

You know how people say "this meeting could've been an e-mail"?
jmonrealarc29 March 2020
Well, this series could've been a movie. The last two episodes are where everything happens - the rest of the episodes are a waste of time. The acting is also not good. Just... Not worth it.

Slow paced show with a great ending.
you-mo18 August 2021
I was looking for series with mystery and suspense and this show came up, but it's not what I expected . The serie is slow paced sometimes it's kinda boring especially the first few episodes, its a drama about hight school students and the cheerleading squad mostly, the acting was good and the last three episodes are great that's why I gave it six and not five . The show is similar to pretty little liars and 13 reasons why, but with less mysteries and secrets and more believable drama.
