Extremely useful documentary about obstetric violence against women
tiagovix200017 August 2013
Warning: Spoilers
At great cities in Brazil, about 90% of pregnancies in particular health system goes to a cesarean surgery. On Public Health System (SUS), about 50% chance to be sent to a surgery. When women literally give a birth, it is almost sure they suffer obstetric violence.

WHO (World Health Organization) stipulates this tax at most 15%.

There is no scientific evidence supporting these higher rates of cesarean surgeries.

This documentary shows almost perfectly a nude e crude reality of obstetric violence against women and an alternative possibility of humanized solution for childbirth, including a home planned childbirth for low-risk pregnancy.

Obviously there are women who prefer cesarean, because there is a schedule date, and they don't want a painful childbirth. Furthermore, cesarean surgery is very useful and necessary in high-risk pregnancies, when both mother and baby needs intense medical care.

But these women are exception. Mostly want a natural childbirth early, but later doctors print on patients an opposite idea.

The cons: - There was no space for cesarean doctor opinions. - There was no clue about the higher costs to deal with humanized obstetrician nor nurses nor doctors. - There was no clue about the health plans and its politics on natural childbirth.

Beautiful and necessary comment...
RosanaBotafogo6 May 2023
The film "O Renascimento do Parto" portrays the serious obstetric reality worldwide and especially in Brazil, which is characterized by an alarming number of cesarean sections or deliveries with traumatic and unnecessary interventions, in contrast to what is known and recommended today by science. This situation has serious perinatal, psychological, social, anthropological and financial consequences. Through the reports of some of the greatest specialists in the area and the most recent scientific discoveries, the current obstetric model is questioned, a reflection is promoted on the new paradigm of the 21st century and on the future of a civilization born without the so-called "hormones". Of love", released only in specific conditions of labor.

With the special participation of French scientist Michel Odent, American anthropologist Robbie Davis-Floyd, Mexican midwife Naoli Vinaver, actor and film director Márcio Garcia and his wife, nutritionist Andréa Santa Rosa. The film also features the participation of many mothers and several Brazilian specialists.

A simple, beautiful, emotional and necessary documentary, I, like most people, also have the impression that a cesarean section is a safe, quick, less traumatic and healthy delivery for both... In 2013 they called babies born prematurely a "Hidden Epidemic" and without the protection of substances existing in the vagina during the passage through normal delivery... Beautiful and necessary comment...

A few correct observations used against the women
ersbel15 February 2019
A few correct observations used by primitivists against the women just to fulfill the producers' religious beliefs.

Most observations are crap anyway. Say around 9th minute, the round faced talking head talks about women "migrating" to the hospital and how those women have "relinquished" the control of the birth process. Which is a lie on so many levels I have no idea where to start. First, the woman traditionally has no power over her decision. Second, the pregnancy and birth is something mandated by the family. Third, the doctors did like control since the witch doctor was invented. Fourth, what the ignorant calls relinquish is actually a continuation of the state control over the minds and bodies of the people living within a border. The doctors in this case are simply another form of police mandated by the government to have a mission. The women are simply cows farmed to breed soliders, taxpayers, etc.

And this is what makes this documentary disgusting. Because YES, women should have control over their bodies and lives. And YES women should have a free choice even if the chosen option does not fit well with the personal agenda of the one doing the preaching. But the ignorance and obscurantism propagated by this sort of propaganda simply puts more power in the hands of bureaucrats.

These are real tears from women who describe real trauma. But exploiting that in order to get international invitations is dubious. And it would be a good thing if the authorities ignore this. Or else, these tears and suffering will just fuel a new wave of authoritarian control over the minds and bodies of women.
