It's 1983 and everyone is looking for teenage hitchhiker Sydney McCready. A month ago, she disappeared in the Outback... never to be heard from again. Husband/wife duo Bill and Marsha Bundy believe they are close to finding Sydney. Harboring grand literary ambitions, in the vein of Truman Capote and James Ellroy, the couple hopes to find fame and fortune as true crime writers, their careers won off the back of Sydney McCready's disappearance. Sneaking into Maralinga, an abandoned military testing site deep in the South Australian desert, they set up camp and start searching for the missing girl. Over the ensuing days they uncover a chilling conspiracy theory, involving the British Army and a clandestine nuclear testing program. And then, just when it seems like they're out of leads, they receive a visitor in the middle of the night.
