Jude Law doesn’t seem like the type to lead a Star Wars installment, but he is going all-in for the upcoming series Skeleton Crew, headlining as Jod Na Nawood. It’s also only one of a handful of shows Law has been in.
Speaking on why he decided to finally join the Star Wars force, so to speak, Jude Law said it took a lot of contemplation because of the scale of the series. “I don’t think I would have dived in willy-nilly. I wanted it to be right. I didn’t want to be the guy that dropped the ball on Star Wars.” Oh, don’t worry, Jude, plenty of people have beaten you to the punch on that one…

How far will these songs go? According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney has selected the two “Moana 2” songs it will submit for Best Original Song consideration at the 97th Academy Awards. The two tracks are “Beyond” and “Can I Get a Chee Hoo?,” which kids and parents will become familiar with when the film opens in theaters next month.
Both songs have music and lyrics by Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, who are taking over original songwriting duties from Lin-Manuel Miranda, who was nominated for Best Original Song in 2016 for the first film’s breakout song, “How Far I’ll Go.” “Beyond” also features Pacific choral vocals written and arranged by Opetaia Foa’i, who is a composer of film’s score along with Mark Mancina. It’s described as the film’s “I want” song, a tradition in Disney musicals where the heroine states her goal for the story in an early number.

In the paperwork identifying which tunes should be considered for the best original song Oscar for Disney’s forthcoming animated musical Moana 2, the company could have chosen any number of high-quality options featured on the film’s soundtrack, but, The Hollywood Reporter has learned, the studio is submitting just two: “Beyond” and “Can I Get a Chee Hoo?”
Both numbers feature music and lyrics by Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear. “Beyond,” which also includes Pacific choral vocals written and arranged by Opetaia Foa’i, is essentially this film’s version of the first Moana’s “How Far I’ll Go” (the only song submitted for the 2016 film, and one which wound up with a nomination). “Beyond” is the classic Disney “I want” anthem and is performed in the film by the actress who plays the title character, Auli’i Cravalho (alongside Rachel House in the 2024 film). A “Deadpool & Wolverine”-inspired dance routine that copied the key fight scene from the hit superhero movie stole the show on Tuesday night’s “Dancing With the Stars,” all set to Nsync’s “Bye Bye Bye.”
NFL star Danny Amendola and par Witney Carson performed the energetic Jazz routine dressed, as, respectively the red-suited Deadpool and yellow-clad Wolverine. Judge Derek Hough called it “martial arts with the stars” and predicted the number would be a viral hit. The action-packed routine earned three 9s for a score of 27.
The remaining eight couples paid tribute to iconic Disney characters, including Ariel, Hercules, Tarzan and Cruella de Vil. Week 6 also brought the first group dances of the season, set to songs from “The Goofy Movie” and “The Lion King.”

Alright, so pretty much there’s a secret world accessed through a glowing door that we think houses all of the sparks caused by real-world kindness. And there’s maybe a tree that holds all of the sparks and a ne’er-do-well who wants to steal spark power. And so...

DWTS fans who caught Dedication Night on Tuesday went wild for Derek Hough’s judging skills. Although viewers have called out the 39-year-old for scoring harshly this year, they loved the way he corrected a grave injustice from the week prior.
Derek broke his own paddle and tossed it across the ballroom for Phaedra. Read on to see how the internet reacted.
Derek Hough Lifts Up Phaedra Parks After Gene Simmons Scored Her Poorly
Kiss member Gene Simmons was the guest judge during Hair Metal Night, but he proved to be wildly unpopular with viewers. Fans hated the way he objectified the women contestants. And on top of that, he handed out utterly random scores.
Jaws dropped when he gave Phaedra Parks and Val Chmerkovskiy a 5 for their Paso doble to Bon Jovi’s “You Give Love A Bad Name.”
But Derek Hough definitely made up for it.

“Inside Out 2” hit 30.5 million views in its first five days of streaming on Disney+, where it premiered on Sept. 25.
This makes the Pixar film not only Disney+’s biggest film premiere of 2024, but its biggest premiere for a theatrical film since 2021, when “Encanto” debuted. Additionally, this is the service’s biggest ever premiere in both the Emea region as well as Latin America. (A view is calculated by dividing total stream time by runtime.)
The success of “Inside Out 2” on streaming has been unsurprising given how well it performed at the box office earlier this year, surpassing “Frozen 2” as the highest-grossing animated film of all time with $1.7 billion on a budget of $200 million. It was the first film of 2024 to cross $1 billion and remains the year’s highest-grossing even after “Deadpool and Wolverine” hit that mark. (The Marvel film landed at $1.3 billion.) The film blew by high expectations when it earned $154 million in its opening weekend and crossed the billion-dollar threshold in a mere 19 days.
“Inside Out 2” also marks a return to form...

When Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger parted ways with the company in 2020, he was succeeded by former Parks Chairman Bob Chapek. Unfortunately for Chapek, he had to lead the company through an unprecedented global pandemic and company upheavals, and was quickly replaced by the return of Bob Iger.
Since his return to the company, Iger has been in a bit of a hot seat, facing criticism for comments made during the 2023 SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes while trying to turn around a series of disappointing film releases and competing with the upcoming opening of Epic Universe at the Universal Orlando Resort. As the company nears three years since Iger's return, it is now facing the daunting task of trying to pick his new successor.

The Penguin recently premiered its first episode, receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback from both critics and audiences. Much of this success can be credited to Colin Farrell’s outstanding performance as Oz Cobb, along with a fantastic supporting cast.
Among the supporting actors, Rhenzy Feliz’s portrayal of Victor Aguilar truly stole the spotlight.
We don’t know much about Aguilar yet, but there’s speculation that the show may have introduced either a young Mr. Freeze or a younger version of Victor Zsasz. As we wait for the mystery to unfold, Rhenzy Feliz, who has a wealth of experience in superhero roles, is setting his sights on another high-profile franchise: the MCU.

John Leguizamo hopes to “flip the script on how America sees Latinos and how we see ourselves,” with his new PBS docuseries “Voces American Historia: The Untold History of Latinos,” which premieres on Friday.
The “Encanto” actor, who also hosts the three-episode series, met with several Latin scholars and professors to discuss the contributions of civilizations dating back to the Incas, the Aztecs and the Indigenous people of the Caribbean — the first New World inhabitants Christopher Columbus encountered — who are now known as the Taíno.
“I’m like the Rain Man of Latin facts, and then together all these professors and experts on Latin history, I was so thrilled to be in the room with each one of them,” Leguizamo told TheWrap in a recent interview.

Disney Animation Studios is undergoing a huge shift. Will a change in leadership be able to restore the brand?
As many know, Disney has had a rough go at the box office for the last couple of years. 2023 was marked with several box office disappointments like Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, and even the once unstoppable MCU faltered. They have done better in 2024 with Inside Out 2 and Deadpool and Wolverine and hope for Moana 2 to be a big smash.
There have already been shifts for the live-action portion of the studio, and now the animation department is following suit. This past week, we saw the announcement that Jennifer Lee will be stepping down after six years as Chief Creative Officer, with Jared Bush (who co-directed Zootopia) taking over.
Lee issued a statement of her gratitude for the job.

Fremantle has taken global distribution rights on Mark Duplass and Mel Eslyn’s Netflix series Penelope.
The high-end show, which premiered at Sundance, will launch tomorrow on Netflix U.S. but worldwide rights have been up for grabs.
Penelope follows the eponymous lead, played by Megan Stott, a 16-year-old who feels out of place in modern society and is drawn into the unknown wilderness, where she begins to form a new life for herself. Like most teenagers today, Penelope is caught up in the modern world’s technology, pacing and pressure. But something is missing, and things feel off, she can’t quite put it into words. On the surface, her life seems pretty great, while inside, there’s a fierceness that’s been brewing, a calling towards a new way of being.
Alongside Megan Stott, the cast also includes Austin Abrams; Krisha Fairchild and Rhenzy Feliz.
Fremantle is selling outside of the U.S. and the move builds on its strategy to partner on streamer shows that can be sold to other territories. One of its key MIPCOM titles will be Costiera, the Jesse Williams-starring Prime Video Italy series that is currently without a UK or U.S. buyer.
“Penelope is very dear to our hearts and we wouldn’t trust her to just anyone,” said Duplass and Eslyn. “We are grateful to have found partners that understand, support and encourage the story we are trying to tell and the larger conversation we are hoping to inspire.”
Duplass and Eslyn executive produce alongside Jay Duplass and Shuli Harel of Duplass Brothers Productions. Eslyn also directs and serves as showrunner. Fremantle is handling global distribution.

Gotham is expanding in “The Penguin” and that means a lot of familiar names, but new faces. In some cases, it means new names too.
Premiering on HBO on Thursday, September 19, “The Penguin” takes place just a few weeks after the events of “The Batman,” but centers on crime boss Oz Cobb — better known as the Penguin. With Gotham effectively in ruins, it’s a race to see who can control the streets, and he thinks his time has come.
That becomes a bit harder, though, when Sofia Falcone, daughter of Carmine Falcone, unexpectedly returns from Arkham Asylum.
We won’t spoil anything, but here are the major players you’ll need to keep up with.

Director-writer Jared Bush is replacing Jennifer Lee as chief creative officer of the Walt Disney Animation Studios as Lee returns to filmmaking full time at the company and stewards the Frozen franchise, Disney announced Thursday. Bush will report to Disney Entertainment co-chairman Alan Bergman, effective immediately.
Lee, who had been in the top gig for six years, will direct and write Frozen 3. She’s also set to write and executive produce Frozen 4.
Her departure as Cco isn’t a complete surprise. During her tenure, the storied animation studio suffered major misses, including 2022’s Strange World and last year’s Wish. And the company’s upcoming slate includes the highly anticipated sequel Moana 2, out in theaters Nov. 27.

Sérgio Mendes, the Brazilian bossa nova legend who became a Grammy-winning international star with his band Brasil ’66, has died at the age of 83.
The musician’s family confirmed he died September 5 in a statement they shared with Rolling Stone on Friday, adding that Mendes “passed away peacefully” in Los Angeles surrounded by his family.
“Mendes last performed in November 2023 to sold out and wildly enthusiastic houses in Paris, London and Barcelona. For the last several months, his health had been challenged by the effects of long-term Covid,” the family’s statement said.

Brooklyn 99 started and ended with a bang. The show took fans along on a journey that they will never forget, and the biggest contributor to this was the characters. The detectives changed along with their viewers, going through several arcs and becoming the beloved pieces of the puzzle that brought life to the precinct.

Although the series has ended, fans cannot help but want to see their favorite actors in more comedic settings, even if it is in different roles. While many were hoping for a movie, the fact that there have been no updates does not help their optimism.
Thankfully, for fans of Rosa Diaz, Stephanie Beatriz is coming back into the world of sitcoms along with the legendary, Mike Schur. However, it is not in the way many may think.

There was a lot to digest when Disney executives took the D23 stage recently to announce all the big changes coming to the world of Disney theme parks. From new attractions to new lands, new themes, re-themes, and so much more, it was, well, "Dizzying."
Despite the excitement of hearing officially that a new Encanto and Indiana Jones theme is coming to Animal Kingdom, a new Monsters, Inc. land is coming to Hollywood Studios, and Magic Kingdom getting a new Villainsland, Epcot was largely left out of the discussion and that is a shame because there were three things fans have been wanting to hear about.
Mary Poppins Ride
A new attraction on the grounds of the U.K. Pavilion has been swriling for years and fans were expecting to hear something about the Mary Poppins theme but it was neither confirmed nor denied at the bid Disney event. The attraction,...
