As my title says this series is my first intro to South African television fantasy programming.
So, I have watched what the South African family watched on their television. It is wild to think about that.
The world has really been changed and for the better because the internet and other things we have the great chances to see how other parts of the globe lives. And you know what, Africa isn't all a wild kingdoms and people living in just the huts anymore. Slowly all countries in the African continent will be brought up to the modern standards too I think.
This series certainly made my point that not all of the African nations are primitive as many believe it to be. Of course the coastal nations have had better opportunities to become modernized because they've had contacts with the world over. This series definitely has shown that.
Anyway, it is an entertaining family show with the many fantasy events. Kids will enjoy that I'm sure.
Adults can rest assure there's nothing offensive in it so they can relax and enjoy it together without anxiety triggers.
Overall, it is a good rated G show.
I've enjoyed the scenery shots here and there too.

I'm only two episodes in but felt compelled to write a review. I'm easily distracted but this got me hooked in the first few minutes, I was riveted. Great plot, mystery, many humorous moments and I really cared about the characters.
A statue, when held and chanted to has the power to make you live your dreams. The thing is, as we generally don't have much control over our dreams you really don't know what might come to light. The results are unexpected and there are some genuine laugh out load moments. The chemistry between the characters is great and I felt the acting was impeccable. I'm going to binge the last four episodes tonight and I can't wait!

I don't know about you, but I don't have much experience watching South-African TV series. This is a great introduction. It's light-hearted, but heartfelt. If you overthink the plot, you'll be in trouble. There are holes for sure. But what makes it work is the chemistry between Lloyd, Marcus and Dineo as they face challenges to fix a problem created by performing a ritual.
There is family drama and enough backstory and fleshing-out of these characters that you really care about them. Add to all that the sometimes incredible exteriors of South Africa.
A very entertaining watch after the first three episodes.

This is the first time I ever ever written a review, let alone in a public forum.
I agree with the positive reviews that I see here. (By the way, thank you to the people who take the time to write reviews for the rest of us!) I am having fun watching this production for the same reasons others are.
In addition, does anyone else, of any gender or non-gender feel put off by a leading lady whose character is strong, noble and intelligent, yet exploited as eye candy? IMO, her manner of costuming is offensive, unrealistic and off-putting. Too cutsie, know what I mean? Some would use the word "gratuitous".
As long as I'm at it, costume people..that leather belt thingy around her waist in ep.1 when she uncovers the statue...at least make it LOOK like there is something in all those nifty little pouch compartments.

Just finished watching Season 1. The title and cover image caught my attention, but I didn't know what to expect. I'm glad I gave it a chance. I can see Didintle Khunou in more action roles. She's got a Tomb Raider vibe going on and it suits her for this part. Jesse Suntele is very easy on the eyes, looking like a South African Michael B. Jordan. Good Lord! His character's backstory was played out well, especially the interactions with his parents. Kiroshan Naidoo's character kept the episodes light-hearted and provided the right amount of comedy relief. All of the actors did a great job!
My emotions were all over the place at one point. I hope there will be another season.
