Nicaraguan sci-fi thriller

THE FIRST is a slow-moving indie sci-fi thriller, made by a Spanish team and shot in Nicaragua, of all places. The scenery is quite beautiful but the story isn't; it plays out as a long-winded mystery for a very long time before finally getting involved with alien invasion material towards the climax. This is more about a rural community with communal secrets than a proper sci-fi invasion flick, and it's very low key. The actors are suitably earnest but the lack of incident and FX makes it a bit of a time waster.

Slow but not bad

The movie was extremely slow for the most part - even boring in several areas. It did pick up in the last 30 minutes to an interesting pace. The acting and plotline were adequate; the ending satisfying enough. Worth watching once on a slow day but not twice.

a real stinker

Awful! actors can't act, the plot is obvious, the horror isn't scary, the whole movie is horrible.

The protagonist does, however, have a beautiful body...
