Will Brody undertake a mission for the CIA?
Tweekums4 December 2013
Warning: Spoilers
After the events of the previous episode Carrie is in hospital with a bullet hole in her arm and Brody is being forced to undergo cold turkey at a facility in Virginia. Having put an operation at risk it looks as if Carrie could be in yet more trouble but luckily for her Saul needs her. He wants Brody to work for him again but Brody has given up on life. It isn't easy but she manages to get him back on side; ready to take on what is likely to be a one way mission… to go to Tehran and kill the head of Iranian Intelligence! Meanwhile Saul learns that the man who has been seeing his wife is a Mossad agent who was bugging his house and reporting to Senator Lockhart… information he can use to extend his own tenure as acting head of the CIA.

In the first half of this episode I feared we might have returned to the introspection of the early part of this season as both protagonists were in bad places; thankfully this didn't last too long and the main plot could progress. It was interesting to see how Saul plans to use Brody; this promises a fairly gripping season finale. After minimal appearances from Brody it is good to see him again; especially seeing him and Carrie reunited for the first time since the end of season two. There are a few minor flaws though; it seems unlikely that Brody would have been left alone and unrestrained when it is known his medication can cause violent hallucinations and likewise given how many times Carrie has been in trouble for doing her own thing is seems highly unlikely that she'd have had the opportunity to take Brody off base without clearance. Still these didn't spoil this enjoyable episode.

Like a Cage Match ... for actors
A_Different_Drummer14 October 2015
Be honest, the romance between Danes and Lewis did not always gel for this reviewer but if you stuck it out for the first two seasons, here in this episode you finally get a payoff.

This entry intentionally or otherwise seems to focus on the best and brightest stars in the series : Patinkin, Danes and Lewis.

It is astonishing how, once given the freedom to move to center stage, the entire tone and quality of an already-solid series rises like a helium balloon to the clouds ... and keeps on moving.

Each of these principals gives the performance of his or her life, and seems to do so effortlessly. While the plot of the series is meandering, manipulative , and more often than not fails to connect with viewer endorphins, this episode, filled to the brim with talent, makes up for all that ... and more.

Recommended.

Picking up after the dreadful start of season 3
dierregi6 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Several past episodes could have been skipped easily to arrive at this turning point. In the previous episode, Carrie got a bullet for her hysteric behaviour. Her excessive reactions are often out of line, but she finally gets to know what is the plan for Brody. Looks like rehabilitation is nowhere near.

What Saul has in store for Brody is to make him look even a worse traitor, ship him to Iran, take out Iran's first man and put his mole in the vacant space.

Sounds crazy and very unlikely to succeed, because of too many variables out of control, but Brody has literally no choice and so he complies His only request is to see his daughter, but mercifully the Dana's hysterics are down to the minimum.

The Carrie-Brody romance seems definitely over and one is left wondering why is Carrie keeping the baby of such a father. Still, a definite improvement.

"Homeland" at its best and beyond

Greetings from Lithuania.

Terrific - brilliant episode. This is my first review for a single "Homeland" episode, and why i'm writing it i still can't forget this episode. If you enjoyed "Homeland" so far in this season, you will be in nirvana watching "One Last Time". Without a doubt this is the best episode in very good season 3, and i can feel shiver when thinking what is going to happen next, when only 3 episodes left.

Yes, season 3 started slow, and at the moments, which involved Dana and her love affair this show was becoming really annoying, but then the things started to get better and better with every scene, when it finally came back to the form for which i love "Homeland".

To shortly sum up all 3 seasons (while 3rd is still way from over) - this is currently the best TV show on air. You can throw a rock at me, but this show is way better than over-hyped survival soap opera "Walking Dead" - "Homeland" feels real, sort of things we are seeing on news every day, and at the same time it's extremely smart, involving, interesting, not overwritten, always keeps you thinking and it's just near damn perfect.

One Last Time
jigsaw-9125 November 2013
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is another proof that the show has completely lost the doubt, paranoia and ambiguity. It has led to a complicated character development in order to try to continue its ways as longer as Showtime can renew the series. But while this series has changed its path and has become in something quite different, there is no doubt that is entertaining and still likable to the audiences. This episode may not come up to those of past seasons, but this is the best of this season yet. It has left that laziness writing of the first episodes and now we are seeing how all that things were connected and leading to the end of this season. Brody definitely returns to the series already gone over to the "good" side and with the opportunity to be a Marine again, as Saul promises him. This is a dark episode (it has violent moments like Brody dealing with the hallucinations) but elegant at the same time. It's perfect to resurrect the lost Brody who we never knew even in the beginning of the series. There are superb references to past things and characters(Tom Walker, Abu Nazir) to the delight of fans, but also for guiding us to what the series will be from now on. An era of doubt and complexity has gone. Now we have to take action and be witness of spy games. And this season is dealing with that new point with an exciting taste though some fans do not like this too. The expected meeting between Carrie and Brody is effective and the last face to face between Brody and his daughter is heartbreaking and a reminder of how everything has changed and how hard is to find peace and pardon after made a lot of bad things. I want to see the next episode and to find out what's next. A great episode on its own terms and the best and most interesting of this season so far!. Brody's back and guarantees that he will return from his mission too. Let's see it.

Agony to watch
scarlettcapetown20 May 2019
Why does Brody have to go through all this agonizing withdrawal? It is so unlikely he managed to stay calm and collected in 8 years of captivity but becomes a junkie of note in what can't be more than a few months in Caracas... Very weak and annoying.
