It takes a child to take action
NohoHank110 October 2023
In a matter of about 20 minutes, the children take control in a way that the adults never could. The Belchers take a back seat in this one, but they absolutely come a long for the ride and even offer to drive, but Rudy was the only one that can take us home today.

Rudy's family life was so uncomfortable and the discomfort was boiling up. His parents had already built walls too high to hide from the boiling discomfort. When the discomfort breaches Rudy's wall, he was forced to take action. You get to witness his reaction which ultimately leads to Rudy creating a memory for his family and friends to reference for the rest of their lives. Rudy turned his life around in this one and as a result, he makes you feel something you didn't expect when you sat down.

loving these episodes
emilynblev10 October 2023
Between this episode and s13 e9 & s13 e10 i have just loved watching these warmer bits from the show. We can always count on the lighthearted funny storylines with louise quips and gene one liners so this little change of pace with heartwarming storylines has been refreshing. I didn't really see it as a sad episode, just a sweet reminder that those around us do care. The story was just so beautifully executed for a sadder topic. I would love to see more episodes like this, Also i cannot get over the animation lately either! The street lamps when rudy was walking to the belcher's... so stunning!

The Amazing Rudy... was AMAZING.
selindsey-3545310 October 2023
As probably THE BIGGEST Bob's Burgers fan I know, I am overly familiar with every episode. This is the only episode to ever make me cry. I've always loved Rudy and the friendship he has with the Belcher kids, (especially Louise, my spirit animal) but this episode really put a spotlight on why he spends so much time with them. They are his idea of an "ideal family" and the love and compassion they showed him when he needed it is a prime example of how, although, sometimes dysfunctional, they are a solid family unit. I loved how they showed a side of Louise that we don't see so often. This was a fantastic episode and definitely in my top ten.

A sweet episode
coughlinj8710 October 2023
This was actually a fairly refreshing episode, and I think one that showed some flex and growth from the writers. The episode follows Rudy as the main character, and shows how he deals with some heavy family stuff, and how a another (familiar) family and friends help him when he needs it, and stepped up again when they saw he bad was hurting. It's a cartoon, sure, but it felt genuine and sweet. Gene of course was present and focused on a lasagna of all things, which made for lots of laughes. But as a whole, it felt heavier, and Stevie Wonders Why Don't You Lead Me To Love was such a perfect song to end the episode with.

Heartfelt
davidrolfes519 October 2023
Rudy and Louise are totally meant for one another. He is ALWAYS the voice of reason for her outside of her family and Louise totally understands Rudy better than the rest. No matter how loud, controlling and sarcastic she is, there is one thing that draws everybody to her and that is...... she has a heart as big as a watermelon and it is made of pure gold. Rudy and Louise are the epitome of what a true friendship is. Overall, this was a episode. This episode also shows just how special the Belcher Family is. They might take it for granted but, they are indeed the lucky ones. This is truly a great, well written show.

Heartfelt and New
dachiosmama11 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
When I realized what the episode was doing, my heart dropped into my stomach. As someone who remembers being in a similar situation to Rudy as a kid, I knew to expect a punch in the gut. And I was met with such. The Belchers represent one kind of family, and I'm happy to see the show looking at other dynamics.

The car wash scene, no matter how quick it was, really grabbed my attention. The dad choosing that moment to talk to Rudy hit very close to home. It showed that he does have good parents, and they do still love him. It's just complicated with the divorce and the parents now seeing other people.

When the Belchers fully come into the episode is where things start to get more hopeful and cheerful. With Gene's obsession with the lasagna keeping things light, it was nice to see Bob and Linda gently figuring out what to do when Rudy admitted that he ran away. The Belchers did the right thing while also keeping their home as a safe space for Rudy to go to when he can't be home.

Obviously the relationship between Rudy and Louise shines bright in this episode. We've seen in the past how Louise tries to always be there for Rudy and has a particular soft spot for him. Watching her process the situation and figure out how to best be there for her friend was really impactful.

While the humor took a backseat this episode, I think it will go into the pile of greats. Even in season 14, this show is still finding new and creative ways to show up for it's audience every week and knock it out of the park.

it just keeps getting better
bluekoala-2342616 October 2023
You can tell there's such a loving team behind Bob's Burgers that really care for the show. Props to every one of you.

This one hit close to home. Anxiety in those formative years can be absolutely devastating, especially with confusing changes in your life.

What I've always appreciated about this series is the kids are often smarter than the adults. Knowing when enough is enough, and that you might need some extra help, is something we should all try and take on board a little more. Be a little more Rudy.

Really loving the direction this series is taking. These more serious episodes are an gems, and it seems most people agree.

What a gem. Thank you, and whatever it is that happening at the studio... please keep it up you absolute legends!

Amazing indeed
MikeMierz9 October 2023
I actually loved this episode. After years and years of the same stories around the Belchers, it's a fresh view into the other characters lives and how they view the Belchers. The previous season went for emotions and heartfelt moments over laughter a few times (Cemetery Episode, Christmas, etc) and it really worked. If this season does it again from time to time, it could be a great shift - as long as they don't overdue it and keep the show true to its main focus. I feel the only reason a 9/10 is it could have used a hint more humor, and maybe toned down the sadness just a tad? It started off too quickly into the mood versus building into it.

Poor Baby
degaswilson-781469 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I watched this episode and I felt really bad for Rudy period caught in the middle of divorce. Didn't know where he belong. Ran to the only place he knew to find happiness and that is with the belchers.

Throughout the whole episode, all I could say was poor baby. I had to put it on hold to write this. I don't know what's gonna happen at the and end. I hope you find some type of Happiness. Just brings up a lot of sad Memories of divorce. I hope hes gonna be OK.

I don't know what else to say I just hope eudy will be happy . I know it's only a cartoon, but you should watch it with you kidd to make sure they are ok.

I am in tears
jeromeggss15 November 2023
This episode was just perfect, A Rudy Episode in itself is a massive treat, But it was basically ALL - RUDY, we saw a deep dive into his situation and the part where he had a little backstory about his past experiences with his parents while they were still together made me cry I couldn't deal with it. The he walked to the belchers and seeing them as the family he wishes he could be like squeezed the tears out of me. You best believe I am only going to use IMDb once to rate this singular episode and I'm never rating again. One day they hit you with the comedy special the next episode is about Anne Frank. Why is this such a good show??

What ever your doing writers keep it up this is forever my favourite show.

Its like a whole other show in a good way
yarslan-586679 October 2023
I love how they approach the bobs burgers from a different angle like Amelia Earhart story and this one. It shows and proves the crew trying something new and they do it perfect, this proves us they care about the show and do it for them more than us viewers. Its nice when you start watching and get something different from what you expect from the show but in the end not feeling you wasted your time. I like the show start to deepening the other characters they are not just for Belchers to interact but they are living there own lives and have more than laughs all the time. This episode tells us sometimes you need to breath and look around something new, you might not like it but whatever you found or see you did found or see it and its completely fine looking away for other things.

A solid episode
daymetriarts9 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I always love it when Bob's Burgers tackles more serious themes. A Plight before Christmas is still my fav episode...and I feel this episode tries to do the same, but has a few hiccups.

I liked that they framed this episode from a different perspective, and I personally like Rudy...but I'm not sure Rudy is a strong enough character to be the MC of an entire episode. There are other characters I believe could have carried this burden a bit better than Rudy.

At the very least, the first half of this episode did him no favors. I honestly thought it was a bit boring watching Rudy and his father travel around. I got the feeling of awkwardness they were trying to convey, but that feeling was apparent with the breakfast scene. For me, they didnt have to drag it out so much, and could have used that time a bit more efficiently.

It wasn't until Rudy messed up his magic trick at the dinner table that I stopped feeing this urge to check my phone, and was fully engaged with the episode. And that was a little over halfway through the ep.

I thought the second half of the episode was nice, even if it felt a bit shallow. Since they kind of beat around the bush in the first half, it didn't really hit me when Rudy confessed his experiences to the Belchers. In my opinion, they could have done a better job emphasizing that.

(For reference, in a Plight before Christmas, they did a great job emphasizing how much Louis's poem meant to her...which gave it another emotional kick at the climax)

All in all, I enjoyed the episode and appreciated the feelings they wanted to convey. I thought the resolution was sweet. I truly enjoyed it even if it's not the typical goody episode.

Solid episode with some room for improvement.

Warning: Spoilers
I get what this episode is trying to go for. It is a change of pace but I don't really like this kind of episodes of Bob's Burgers and prefer the episodes revolving around the Belcher family and kids antics.

To be fair it is a nice relationship with Rudy as his parents and family in general but we didn't have enough time to properly feel bad for Rudy. It also dosen't help it barely involved the helcjets who are only there for 3 and a half minutes. The relationship at the end was nice though.

So far the start to this season has so far unfortunately been pretty shaky. Hopefully they can go back to being great again with its next few episodes.

Heartfelt but lacking
dragonageinquesition18 October 2023
The episode had a lot of heart and focused on Rudy which was nice. The team did a good job at making you feel sorry for Rudy. A lot of us have divorced parents and have suffered from anxiety and this episode does a great job at creating an experience that felt very real and relatable. They even did a great job at showing how in tough times like that we can look at other families and wonder why we cant have what they have. There's one big problem though, this show is a comedy! There's basically no jokes in this entire episode, the whole thing is just sad. Many great animated sitcoms have managed to deliver heart felt moments while still retaining what the show is such as Futurama with my personal favorite Jurassic Bark. Unfortunately that isn't the case here, It's too bad as this episode really had some potential.

One of the best episodes
CoLasseter9 October 2023
I have been a Bob's fan since the show first started, and it's definitely my comfort show. I'll agree that the past few seasons have been a bit lackluster, but as long as they keep making them i'll keep watching. This episode "The Amazing Rudy," leaves the Belcher family (mostly) to focus on our good pal regular sized Rudy. I absolutely adored this episode and think it might be in my top 5 favorite episodes. It centers on Rudy getting ready for a dinner with his divorced parents and their new partners. It has so much emotion and is incredibly well done. It's going to be hard to top this episode the rest of the season, but I can't wait to see what else they do.

Moody Rudy
andyodom-2757115 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
What makes Bob's Burgers great? It's not just the family dynamic. It's not just the jokes. It's not just the side characters.

It's almost always the music. Every great episode features a great score and just like the Plight Before Christmas, the music in this episode doesn't have lyrics. It allows you to take time to just feel what is happening.

This enables you to easily see yourself in the shoes of the character without any distraction of lyrics and I can say that I have never related to a character in Bob's Burgers more than Rudy.

Bob's Burgers usually focuses on the wholesome togetherness of family even despite the issues they go through. But this time they focus on the opposite: a child trying for years to keep the attention of his parents who will never get back together and having to adjust to the new people in each of his parents lives. He uses magic to ensure that he is the one that keeps the peace and to give him a way to feel important and when he fails, he feels like it's the end of the world because they rely on him to be the middleman and he relies on his magic to show them that he's still there.

We finally get a glimpse of a new perspective on how the Belcher family looks from the outside looking in to someone who has never and will never experience that.

Rudy is usually the butt of the joke or is passed over for a quick laugh and I never EVER thought we'd get an episode from his point of view. We've seen Rudy go through many emotions before but never in this way and with this much context. This episode explores the emotions of a child of divorce, the way it feels to see a family that loves each other despite their quirks, and how overwhelming it is to really see both of your parents moving on and feeling left out because you're the youngest of the bunch.

The one thing the writer's have always done is set Louise and Rudy up for success. The way she offers herself up for a night that she 100% knows will be awkward to save Rudy from feeling so small.... Man. Sometimes I hate to love this show because it hurts in the worst and then in the best way. I love it and this is now one of my favorite episodes. Great job to the writers, story-boarders, animators, and musicians who brought this episode together. I'm sure many people like me can relate on a new level.

Also I said that lyric-less songs are sometimes the best but the Stevie Wonder at the end? I don't mean that. Perfect song, perfect characters, and perfect story. Everything is perfect.

Rudy the Workhorse
rlcwaterboy-5782114 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode centers on Rudy and his dad. Rudy struggles with the idea of his parents moving on. The tight knit bond that the Belchers share makes him even more uncomfortable. He realizes that families are not made from a cookie cutter. But when you have people around you that are rooting for you you have a family however unorthodox it is. This episode proves that Rudy is the most durable character in this show. You can throw him in a lions den and he will come out the other side. He may be tattered and bloody but he will stand up, dust himself off, put his hands up and exclaim "TaDa!!!" And he will always have his sister from a different mister there to punch people in the stomach if they don't applaud.

Full of heart
xtainn24 November 2023
This episode was a masterstroke of storytelling, weaving the complex emotions of divorce through the innocent eyes of a child. As someone who has navigated similar turbulent waters, I found myself in Rudy's shoes - longing for a grand, magical resolution to mend the fractures in a once-whole family. The writers, in their fourteenth season, have not only maintained their brilliance but have ascended to new heights. They craft not just compelling television, but soulful narratives that reach into the depths of our being, stirring long-forgotten feelings and leaving an indelible mark on our hearts. It's a rare piece of art that transcends the medium, becoming a mirror to our own experiences and a balm to our unvoiced pains.

More of this! Yes!
lastratony8 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is incredible; it honestly has everything, yes the humor is light but the story shows so much growth, not just for Rudy but for the writers as well. I love these episodes that show the world from the perspective of characters we normally wouldn't. I'd love to see more episodes like this; maybe some background on the Pestos? Where is their mom? Maybe an episode that shows the inner workings of a few background characters and how they interact before they get to the resteraunt, i.e. Teddy, Mort, etc..

Rudy's story in this is rather simple; his parents are divorced and when he was very young he used a simple magic trick to liven up a rather dismal dinner with his recently divorced parents. Now, a few years down the road, it's become a form of tradition, but this uneasy relationship with with his parents and their partners has him so overwhelmed that he can't stay there anymore, so he runs to the Belcher's; Rudy's idea of a happy loving family (because they are).

I love this episode for so many reasons, the world building, the animation, the character arch, the way Rudy interacts with the Belchers, everything. This is definitely an episode to watch as an adult with one (or if possible both) of your divorced parents.

One of the best animated episodes ever
riverotter6818 January 2024
I did not expect this. I had never seen an animated episode like this. I have a love/hate relationship with Bob's Burgers. I think Gene is the most annoying character in the history of animation, and Linda is second, so I'm not a fan of episodes that are centered on them. I like Tina and Bob, and I like the episodes where Louise shows her soft side. The writers and animators hit it out of the park with this one. The look on Rudy's face and the focus on it throughout the episode was well done and really conveyed his feeling of being lost in his new reality with his parents.

Humor was not needed here, but they did try to force it with Gene, which is why I took away a star. The Simpsons tried for an episode like this with "Lisa's Belly," but that came off preachy. This episode was sweet and heartfelt and showed how confusing and sad moments in life can be for young children.

Top 10 for Bob's Burgers Episodes!
alishagilpin-9189720 March 2024
I absolutely love Bob's Burgers and I have been watching the show on repeat for years. Rudy is definitely one of my favorite characters and I love the friendship between him and Louise. It was so fun to see another side of that, and Rudy, in this episode! I love that the writers are going beyond the usual narrative and are showing us more of our favorite characters in a more intimate setting. This episode makes my heart so happy. I would love to see this more with all of the other characters! I never get tired of this show, but changing things up makes the show even more enjoyable. This is definitely one of THE BEST episodes that they've made in the last few years.

agw_mlk_rag_bffs13 March 2024
The Bob's Burgers team showcased their knack for blending humor with heartfelt narratives once again in a recent episode. I admire their talent for addressing weighty themes with their signature wit.

It's no surprise that this episode is rated so highly, I'm not the only one appreciated the way they handled sensitive topics with levity, yet still managed to deliver poignant messages.

Given the how great this episode was, it would be awesome to see a similar one for Zeke. I love him and I loved the episode they did about his Grandma. I think they could do another for him and it'd be awesome :)

Good Storyline Lacking Jokes
andrewchambers-2916411 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I've been a fan of Bobs Burgers for some time now and I must say, this episode had some unique character about it that I really enjoyed. Rudy's unique perspective throughout the day was enjoyable to watch except...

There was a lack of jokes in this latest Bob's Burgers episode! It truly was a crime because with the additional flare of additional laughs I would have rated this in the upper echelons of all the episodes. However, its dreary nature made me reflect on how little I was laughing throughout this episode and how much I've been yearning for some good chuckles. But this one unfortunately hit short.

Finally a Rudy centered episode
kingdan246 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
It can be a huge risk for any show to put its main cast in the background in favor of a secondary character but Bob's Burgers did exactly that and knocked it out of the park. The episode main story revolves around Regular Sized Rudy, the episode starts with Rudy seemingly nervous about a dinner later that night, revealed that the dinner is with his divorced parents and their new "friends". Rudy seems intent to make this dinner as uncomfortable for all parties as possible and hopes one of his magic tricks will bond his family as shown in flashbacks from previous dinners, unfortunately Rudy messes up the trick and leaves the restaurant visibly upset and seeks refuge at the Belchers where the family is having a family dinner which Rudy relishes, Bob Louise and Tina quickly realize something is off and contact Rudy's parents and discover that Rudy ran off from his family dinner after Bob offers to drive Rudy back to the restaurant, Louise, as any best friend would offers to walk with Rudy back ro the restaurant one of the sweetest moments in the shows history. Being from a broken home is horrible for a young child and sometimes you need a good friend and that is exactly what Louise knew she needed to be.

Rudy's Day
RickSC1379 October 2023
This episode was absolutely horrible. I get that they are trying to show how sad Rudy's life is with his parents separation compared to the fun loving home of the Belchers but all this episode did was make you feel sorry for Rudy. There were no funny scenes, non of Louise's sarcasm or energy, the entire episode just felt flat. I think the idea of watching these tv shows, is to take your mind off everyday issues and problems and just have a laugh or two. This episode just makes you remember that you have your own problems in life and some might be able to relate to Rudy's problems, where others might not.
