There was potential in the writing for something worthwhile, but the animation format didn't work for me

Omega 1 (2013) is a movie that I recently watched on Tubi. The storyline follows a futuristic world where hackers dominate, and world domination is on the brink of happening. Meanwhile, a female assassin created by hackers wants revenge for her creation and the state of existence. Can she change the direction of the world and kill her maker?

This movie is directed by Mark Edward Lewis (Blade of Honor) and contains the voices of Alina Andrei (The Mercenary), Beka Ricci (The Super Store), Felicia Walker (Get the Girl), Gabrielle Reid (The Blacklist) and Steve Amerson (Pacific Rim).

The opening narration and story set up is solid, not great. I didn't know this was a digital comic format movie going in, especially considering the cover. The format did not really work for me. Also, this didn't need to be 6 short movies and should have been one 50+ minute long picture. The animation and artwork was just okay, but some of the cut scene and effects were worthwhile. The voices were well selected and the premise had potential.

Overall, this movie doesn't really give you anything you're looking for. There was potential in the writing for something worthwhile, but the animation format didn't work for me. I would score this a 3/10 and recommend skipping it.

Don't waste your time

Warning: Spoilers
First off, the whole human courier story has already been told, rent Johny Mnemonic. While the overall story was compelling, the whole premise felt like a copy of Johny Mn because of this. Also, it is NOT a cartoon, it is a motion comic, which is fine for fan service on youtube, but a real movie? seriously? it just comes off as lazy, like they was trying to do a cartoon, but instead chose to only do one frame every 30 seconds (spend some more money, trying to watch this WAS PAINFUL) The characters was OK (not great, sorry, you cant start off with an unoriginal premise and EVER be great) the story was bland, plus somehow makes out the "hackers" fighting for equality from the rich as the "bad guys" meanwhile the rich, the actual cause of the problem, are the good guys....so basically, it is a motion comic (not a cartoon) that insults the viewer, since most people are not rich, and the good guys of the movie, are the rich, who do you think the bad guys are? Thats right! The middle class. Think about it, the rich have all the power in that world, and the "hackers" are the people with the ability to move up. They are the middle class. So Omega 1 is basically telling us that fighting for equality is evil and the rich people are "Heroes" at least that was the first episode and backstory. Not wasting time on any more, the first episode was to horrible to bother continuing watching this abortion.

A new rock bottom
jthaule1 October 2019
Not only is this absolute drivel in terms of storyline, with more than just a teeny bit of far right fear mongering as the basis, but it's absolutely terrible when it comes to execution. It's ugly, stupid and just simply something no one should ever endure more than ten minutes of. Even that much is plain torture.
