With a journey to the virtual world, this week's Perception was extraordinary indeed. "Caleidoscope" turned a simple computer game into the scene of a crime. And for once it was amazing to see Dr. Peirce break out of his little shell. After failing to question Jeremy, a young man known to frequent the game, Caleidoscope, Dr. Peirce made his own avatar. The hilarious part was that not only did Daniel eventually gain his answers through entering the game, but he fell in love too. The relationship began increasingly serious as this imaginary Ileana and Daniel actually talked about vacationing real world locations. I was almost fooled that this virtual girlfriend was real when she had showed up at the college where Dr. Peirce worked. Too bad Ileana only ended up being Jeremy's mother. I enjoyed comparing the computerized characters to the appearance of the particular gamer, especially with Lewicki's Michael Jackson avatar and Kate's rock star outfit As a whole, a lot of time was spent going back and forth between Jeremy and the Quang family as potential suspects. That was until Daniel keyed into the idea that regardless of who one is in the real world, anyone could change their look and behavior on the computer. The visual effects transitioning between the two worlds were nevertheless terrific, but the plot was definitely tedious. Can't wait to find out the new mystery next week.
