Full disclosure, my sister is the executive producer, but please read this review anyway. Even in her nineties, Virginia comes across as a strong person. It is easy to imagine what she was like in her youth in the midst of war torn Shanghai. Her story is one of a real person, not a flawless heroine by any means, and yet not an opportunistic survivor either. I saw the film at its world premiere at SLOIFF in March 2014. I really need to see it again to make sure I can connect all the dots in a very complex story that unfolds as Virginia tells it to the camera. It contains some surprises, but maybe I missed the clues the first time. A feature film based upon this story would awesome.
