Mirrors a real life crime case
Lulubelle197918 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This episode borrows so many things from the Elisa Lam case. Hotel Cedric/Cecil, body found in the water tank, odd happenings in the lift.

I do love Castle though, it's such comfort watching. I'm probably on my 4th binge watch, maybe 5th and it never gets old. About to start reading the actual Nikki Heat books and hope they're as good.

Water did shed, right out of my eyes. Warning: Spoilers
What's great about this episode -

* Beckett coming back to her usual ground. I believe inadvertently all of us are made out of our stubborn traits and Beckett has a strong one and I liked the fact that instead of making the relationship go a course where she completely changes, she actually gets the trait out when serious talk has to happen.

* Castle visibly being upset over Beckett's usual 'I keep secrets to myself' routine. I've seen him always being okay or making fun of it, trying to get to know her. Now since they are together, the anger and disappointment is very very agreeable.

What's not great about this episode -

* I did not see Lanie's disappointment. Being such a close friend for years, she's there advising Beckett. :(

* It's unfair how Ryan and Espo, especially Espo, are the last ones who get to know what's happening in the Castle gang. I'd have loved a scene of them getting to know about it and how much change it would bring in their lives.

* The cliffhanger itself. I had to watch that scene at least 5 times. ** Spoiler ** Instead of Castle proposing, I would have had him all ready to propose and just about to take the ring off of his pocket and that's when Beckett says she has decided to take up the DC job because she isn't married yet and still has the freedom to. Something like that, maybe?

I dunno, but I still think it was some powerful emotional episode :) Great job, you guys!

Unnecessary & out of character behavior-induced-disaster averted in time!
richard-abeysinghe42815 December 2013
Castle has been an idiot sometimes in the latter half of this season, what with him being undecided over choosing his precious video game or a horny Kate. Still this is to be expected of him. Although Rick has matured a lot over the years spent with the NYPD, he still retains that air of a bumbling idiot/silliness. Kate spent 5 years with him before finally doing the deed & hence she knows him best..hence my disapproval over her behavior after the above-mentioned 'video game' incident. - She almost gave into the charms of a billionaire playboy while in a relationship with Castle. If she could deal with the advances of Castle (who not only was a ruggedly handsome millionaire playboy but also her favorite author who's novels helped her get over her mother's murder)at the start of Season 1 despite being single for over 5 months, how come she almost gives into Mr. Vaughn (she did let him kiss her on the lips) while being in a relationship? Was she feeling lonely & bereft of attention...just because Castle kind of ignored her for 5 mins? Please! That move went totally against her nature. That whole episode should have been written differently as it's not like Castle's nature either to ignore Kate..who is the center of his existence along with Martha & Alexis. Writers mistake. Andrew Marlowe should not have let this happen cause quite a few faithful Castle fans were let down big time..including me, particularly as the episode "Still" was designed to be aired before "Squab & the Quail" (but was eventually aired after due to the bombing incident) where Castle literally decides to die together with Kate.. .not exactly an indication that he was already fed up with Kate & ignoring her! - The real problem with the job offer that some fans missed was the fact that Kate took it behind Castle's back. It meant that she did not really trust him & that she didn't have total faith in her relationship with Castle. Despite what Martha said, Kate had second thoughts not because she didn't have a ring on her finger (which was some real stupid advice) but because it was in her nature to be doubtful of everything. Plus she was acting out of character too. Yes Castle is a rich author who can write from anywhere. But his problem was that Kate didn't confide such an important decision with him, whereas Castle has been asking advice/discussing on practically every major decision he took (even Alexis's boyfriends) even before they were in a relationship. - Ultimately though Rick & Kate managed to work through this huge mess & Kate's distrusting nature to end up getting engaged, which would only make their relationship more stronger.

Hell of a season for relationships
kols14 May 2013
Warning: Spoilers
First there was the disastrous finale of Bones and now Becket and Castle are on the ropes.

It all began a couple of episodes ago, while Castle was playing an online game with a Chinese girl and Becket appears in the doorway, doing a very sexy come-on. What does Castle do? He keeps playing the game, dismissing Becket with a 'not now'. OOPs! Each episode since has closed with Becket with a far-away, questioning look in her eyes.

This episode carries the line forward with Becket interviewing for a big Washington job and I'm going, "Sh*t, can't ANY writers just let a happy relationship just stay happy!" As the episode continues, counterpointing the mystery with a sinking Becket/Castle boat, I'm going "For God's sake, Castle is a writer who can live anywhere. There's no reason for this!" And, seriously, there is no good reason for the writers to handle things this way. Except for the way they wind up handling it.

Castle's immaturity has been emphasized to the point of ridiculousness this season (with a few stellar exceptions, like Alexi's kidnapping) and this episode is no exception; when he finds out about Becket's interview, he assumes that it's all about her leaving him and storms out of her apartment. Only this time, before I can even start screaming, everything changes and god know how many of the threads that have been dangling since the first season's first episode are integrated into the show's master tapestry.

Those last scenes are as serious and dramatic as Castle has ever gotten, understated with a focus like a red-hot laser, raising the episode from disaster to masterpiece, tying all of the episodes since Paris into a coherent whole.

I'd say a little more but there's no way I'm going to spoil the impact of those last scenes for anyone who hasn't seen them.

A way to exciting ending to the season
Oddelg14 May 2013
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was hard to take in. I have followed this show a long time and really fallen in love with it and it's characters and the storytelling. I have really held on to Rich and Kate and their struggling, tough love-story throughout the seasons. Now, for the last season, they are finally a couple. Why do the writes absolutely have to be so rude?! Why can't they finally have a happy and peaceful relationship?

The last episode, Kate got a great opportunity. She got a job-offer in the FBI in Washington DC. That was how the episode ended. In this episode we follow her struggling to either taking the job or not as well as a case they are solving.

One night, when Kate and Rick are having a dinner at her place, Rick finds her boarding pass from a flight she had to DC to have the job- interview. He gets mad for her not telling her that she was there.

It ends with her accepting the job offer. But then something comes in the way, in the very end of the episode. Rick proposes to her.

A very strong and difficult episode to take for the big fans out there, including me. And it is almost too rough to know that this is the final episode for this season. Can't wait to see season 6.

Katherine Houghton Beckett...
sini-20020 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I really wanted to give this episode 10/10 but the way Beckett behaved was way too OOC entire ep was it for me. Why in the world would she not tell Castle about her job opportunity?! Did she think, that after all this time, he wouldnt be supportive or not let her go? He would have let her go to the interview regardless, even if he was scared what it would mean for their relationship, and not wanting her to go or get the job. It would have been much better than the stupid unnecessary drama Beckett hiding it completely from him. They could have pulled anything else, them having different fight about the job, because honestly I find it very doubting that someone would hide such thing from their partner.

But hey it ended up great proposal. :)

Castle is an ass
LoveIsAStateOfMind28 February 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Blood coming out of a shower on an unsuspecting individual? WAIT THAT IS TOTALLY ORIGINAL AND I HAVE NEVER SEEN THAT BEFORE. OH WAIT, YES CSI:NY DID IT. It was pretty memorable.

Love that we finally got a Beckett/Lanie scene. We've only been waiting, like, 2 seasons for one.

ERM, CASTLE YOU WRITE BOOKS FOR A LIVING, YOU COULD WRITE BOOKS IN DC, WHY DOES BECKETT GETTING THIS JOB MEAN YOU WOULD NEVER SEE HER AGAIN?!?! Someone please slap him for me. I mean god Alexis is in University now and although it would be hard for Castle to leave her in New York, how comes he didn't even CONSIDER moving the DC with Beckett?!?!

Martha talking some sense! Yay Beckett's Dad.

The case was nothing special, interesting enough but not wow-worthy for a finale.

A proposal? Can anyone say guilt trip? She will be staying for all the wrong reasons. Why didn't the proposal come with a "I know this is an amazing opportunity for you and I will follow you wherever you go?". THAT would make sense. Now he's asking her to marry him for all the wrong selfish reasons. I am done.

I reckon she will take the job and go and then circumstances dictate that she ends up back at the 12th Precinct and there will be lots of angst between her and Castle because she rejected his proposal and left and then they have to work together again etc. etc.

Okay, I have been thinking about it for a couple of seasons but this is the season I finally let go of this show. Castle in this episode made the decision easier.
