Wrong Episode Name I think
ecetiner-8500324 May 2020
After I watched the episode, I realized that the name was Night Music instead of Devil's Bridge -Part 2.

Whoever wrote and approved the subtitles for this should be fired. So many mistakes. Totally ruined the episode for me.

Stolen Land
Tweekums5 May 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This, the second episode of this BBC Wales drama, sees DI Tom Mathias and his team investigating the murder of Idris Williams. He was a loner who lived in a remote farm, miles from anybody else. Somebody must have been their though as an anonymous call alerted the police to his murder. When the investigation gets underway we learn that although he had lived there all his life the property didn't belong to him; his father had bequeathed it to a local trust on condition that Idris could live there. We also learn of a second farm which was gradually swallowed up by Williams' property although there is no record of why its owner would transfer his land; he certainly didn't sell it.

As with the opening episode the motives for the killing date back many years; in this case as far as the war although this time its isn't quite as dark; a plot involving escaping POWs isn't as grim as child abuse by any stretch of the imagination. While that doesn't necessarily make it better (or worse) it is less downbeat… until the ending. The story is well told with more than one suspect and a few possible motives. Once again the cast do a fine job; Richard Harrington does a fine job as DCI Mathias and Mali Harries is very likable as his sidekick DI Mared Rhys… a bit of a surprise to have a sidekick who isn't a sergeant! As before there is plenty of beautifully bleak countryside to admire thankfully without feeling like an advert from the Welsh Tourist Board. Overall another fine episode.

Warning: Spoilers
For Don Rasmu - I think because the blackmailing Coradaugh was gobbling up the land over time, forcing Roberts to transfer. But why over time and not all at once, I don't really get.

Sins of the Father
Hitchcoc26 August 2017
A quiet, kind man who lives alone, is found murdered. We find out as time goes by that he had held onto a piece of land on a mountain, and that piece of land seemed to be really desirable to someone. This takes us back to the early days of World War II and a pact that was made. Unfortunately, a man who had no dealings with this was singled out because he wanted to be left alone. Mathias once again takes it all personally when things don't work out. I suppose we will find out something of his history at some point. We also see the subtle harassment of his immediate supervisor who doesn't seem to do anything but criticize. I look forward to the next episode. This is a little treasure of a series made in Wales.

ATROCIOUS SUBTITLES
lukasbutters29 September 2020
This show is a hidden gem for all fans of crimi series. Definitely recommend watching. However, is Netflix really that incompetent to not proof-read the subtitles they receive? I mean, "coffee" instead of "copy", "speaking german" when she's clearly speaking Welsh (WHAT TRANSLATOR DOESN'T KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO LANGUAGES??? NONE!), countless omissions, several "INAUDIBLE" instead of subtitles .... I mean... is this for real? I'm literally furious. I've survived the subs in 1st episode but the subs in 2nd are unbearable. How can you write inaudible in closed captions? This show is really worth it but Netflix should step it up because when a foreigner like me can understand more than a person writing the English subtitles, something is wrong.

An excellent second instalment.
Sleepin_Dragon11 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
DCI Mathias is called in to investigate the death of Idris Williams, a 64 year old man living in a remote Farm house on the bleak mountainside. An investigation of the property leads to a photographic studio, in which Mathias believes a picture shows an obscure picture of the killer. Later enquiries highlight a strange land deal and revelations of escaped German POW's in the area.

This was an excellent second episode, a mystery that played out well over the ninety minutes, it was well paced and didn't bore or dip for a second. I like that we're slowly getting to know the main team, Mathias definitely has a back story, which for now is being teased slowly, who was that letter for? Mared is also becoming a bit nicer as a character, why is her relationship with her daughter so frosty?

Superbly acted once again, Harrington is a very charismatic lead, so well suited to Noir, plenty of distance camera shots showing us just how good a condition he's in! Mali Harries excellent also, and the question is, will she take that red coat off?

Glorious filming, Aberystwyth looks stunning in virtually every shot, especially at night, the visuals of the house on fire also looked incredible.

If I had one minor quibble it's that the solution was a little hard to follow and took a second watch, but that didn't get in the way of what was a fantastic drama, a series which certainly stands out in the crowded noir genre. 9/10

Shrinking Boundaries

This is a question, not a review or commentary. Can anyone explain to me why the boundaries of Talagroys got smaller and smaller?

Lost...just completely lost. Halfway through it got confusing for me as to who was who (some only spoken of but not in the episode).
