Brave finale; mostly works
diligentdrool10 May 2013
For a lot of this episode, I wondered why TPTB didn't end the season with the previous episode "Zero Day", which was a phenomenal episode that had ended with a terrific *gasp* moment. But that is when I realised that this was a conscious effort from the makers of POI- to not make this one a cliffhanger, but rather a chapter-closer of sorts.

For me, it largely worked. Despite a few absurdities which I have come to simply ignore or accept, it was a great fast-paced episode that did justice to its larger arc about the past of Finch and the future of The Machine. Some good writing and solid acting made it a very good one hour of television.

The best moments of the episode were in the Finch flashback - which was basically the point come to think of it. I don't want to divulge much but the scene towards the end with Finch and Grace was just heartbreaking; when I started watching the show, I never thought this procedural-like show would make my eyes well up but it did and how! hats off to Carrie Preston and Michael Emerson for that powerful moment.

I do have a few gripes about this episode. I wish this had been a two hour finale, it had too much content to be satisfactorily told in 42 minutes. Some parts seemed rushed - especially the Carter bits and the ignore to Fusco's character was surprising.

I am both excited and anxious about Season 3. Season 2 has been a massive improvement from season 1 if you look at the overall quality (though the last 6-7 episodes of season 1 were just as good). But the main reason for it was because this season was largely centered on the mysteries of the show's two best characters - Finch and The Machine. The backstory bits of Finch were just phenomenal throughout the season and now that it has been wrapped up (and very beautifully, I might add), I am a little concerned what will be that trump card that holds the next season together. Here is hoping that Jonah Nolan has a few more tricks up his sleeve because POI has been a great experience so far and we fans want it to remain that way for some more time to come!

Seeking Admin... or Seeking Admins
parth-thegame10 May 2013
"God Mode", the episode name itself is interesting and mind blowing. As the Season finale of season 2 start you get the feeling that you're in for a hell of a ride. The best parts of show were the finch's flashbacks which really makes his story more interesting and solidifies his cause for saving people day in day out. As seen in last episode whoever receives the call will be the new admin of the 'machine' and both root & Reese take the call. In this episode all starts the hunt for the machine's location with two admins. With lots of back story of finch and some fantastic & mind blowing twist in the episode it ends on a really really high note.

Although some weak points of the show were that No Fusco, carters story was good but too short. It was all and all an excellent way to end the season 2.

Reese Must Rescue Finch Again!
ShelbyTMItchell14 May 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Reese is forced to rescue Finch again as he reluctantly teams up with is female counterpart Shaw. As Finch is kidnapped by Root. Who wants the machine and in a sense, is a good counterpart of the brain to Finch hence the glasses that Finch loses on purpose and stealing glasses of someone while being kidnapped in return.

Meanwhile Carter deals with an IA investigation and Terney shows his true colors as he is involved with HR aka Human Resources group of corrupted cops playing a huge role in the series. As she is also protecting Fusco from going to prison and even herself.

In the end, she is forced to help a reluctant enemy while trying to protect herself and Fusco while getting close to HR.

Reese when he killed someone trying to kill the groom at a wedding tells the lucky couple "Congrats" was really funny. As he does have wicked sense of humor.

The real life couple of Carrie Preston and Michael Emerson click with her playing Grace and how we see a gentle side of Finch. How so much he was in love with Grace. And that is also why he does not involve Reese into his personal life. All due to that.

Like one reviewer says no Fusco as where is Fusco? Why are the producers not letting Fusco in more! As he is the fallen hero of the series probably now as Reese used to be that. On the police side that is.

Setting up for season 3 in the fall! Can't wait!

The Machine Hideout
claudio_carvalho27 February 2024
The Machine instructs Reese and Root to escape from the Decima's men, and Reese discloses to Shaw what The Machine does. Root and Finch are heading to look for The Machine whereabouts while Reese and Shaw go to the library to look for its location. They find a hidden safe with several information, including Jessica's photo, and a map with three possible locations of The Machine. Meanwhile Carter is interrogated by the Internal Affairs and during a break, Terney comes to the interrogation room and threatens to kill her son and her the same way he did with Beecher. Carter pair with his phone and hears that Terney intends to kill Elias. She calls Reese to tell him that Elias is in danger, but he cannot help him in that moment. Carter uses a mask and saves Elias, killing the Russians and hitting Terney. Root and Finch find a man named Lawrence, but he is shot by a sniper in the Central Park before telling the location of The Machine. Shaw finds some documents in his briefcase and they hijack an helicopter to travel to the hideout of The Machine in Washington. They arrive at the location, together with Root and Finch, and Hersh, the General Counsel and their men. The showdown is about to start. Meanwhile, the viewer sees how Nathan died and Finch became limping and decided to help irrelevant people in 2010.

"God Mode" is a great episode of "Person of Interest" that could be better and better. First, why Carter did not kill Terney, since she knows he is a dirty cop from the HR that killed Beecher? Then, why Reese or Shaw did not kill Root, who showed several times that she is a cold blood killer? The rest is a full of action episode with Sam Shaw helping Reese. My vote is nine.

Writing writing writing
A_Different_Drummer28 November 2014
Since I spent most of my review of Part 1 of the season closer talking about Amy Acker (and there are worse topics to devote a review to) I want to talk about the writing team in the final-final.

First, overall, a fun-filled ride but somehow disappointing when considered in light of the expectations set in the first part.

Nothing technically wrong, mind you, but overall in the tone here I am reminded of Ron Howard's Angels and Demons, which was one of his most technically perfect creations yet also perhaps his most flawed because he got completely lost in the material.

Which brings me back to the writing team.

I notice that another IMDb member has already commented that this finale is not typical. And that of course is the point.

What deserves mention is that that the writers set themselves a great task. To use backstory not merely as filler (which, by its nature, it is) but to develop anticipation for what is to come.

If you think that is easy, try it yourself.

Or, better yet, watch any random episode of ARROW where the writers consistently shoot themselves in the foot the moment they drag out the flashbacks.

Sometimes you have to judge the achievement by the intent, not the result.

When you realize what a lofty goal the writers set for themselves, you also realize that they largely succeeded. And deserve acknowledgement for that.

They should have kill Amy Acker , her annoying witty voice is getting on people nerves , what good of use she is now? And threatening finch lover yet still making her live? Laughable.
