Laughs with lesbian school girls... but no sleaze!
Tweekums15 April 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Laughs with lesbian school girls... but no sleaze! When I first saw this series listed on Crunchyroll I thought I'd watch the first episode to see if it was as dubious as it sounded... an anime about a group of middle school lesbians sounds pretty dubious! I soon realised that it was fairly innocent but also rather funny. I was soon hooked and ended up looking forward to each new episode being released. In the opening scene it becomes apparent that school girl Akari will be the series protagonist... until the second scene when it becomes a series long joke that she might as well be invisible for all the attention she gets! The true protagonist is Kyoko; the founder of the Amusement Club. This club doesn't have any set aims and its members; Kyoko, Akari, Yui and Chinatsu just hang around having fun together. Their antics frequently end up involving the school's student council although for the most part there is little animosity between the groups and they are soon to all intents and purposes part of the main group. The episodes feature the usual tropes encountered in school girl anime; beach trips, festivals and sleep-overs... all of which present opportunities for one girl to try it on with another... or in the case of Chitose and her sister Chizuri an opportunity to fantasise about the others. All this is very chaste though and there is little or no real fanservice.

This series turned out to be a surprise favourite; I really liked the characters especially Kyoko and Chitose as they made me laugh most frequently. Don't be put off by the lesbian elements of the show... or watch it just because of them as they are secondary to the humour of the show. The character designs were fairly generic but that didn't bother me as they were distinctive from each other even if they could have come from a dozen other shows. If you like school based comedy anime this one is worth checking out even if it won't become a classic like 'Azumanga Daioh' or 'Lucky Star'.

These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles.

Just another moe blob, but....
masonfewel13 May 2021
TL;DR at bottom

On the surface, this show is nothing but another moe "cute girls doing cute things" show. That's literally all it is, too. There is no plot at all, and there aren't any weird circumstances really, it's just normal girls doing normal things but some of them happen to have crushes on others.

Saying that probably makes you think that this show is just boring, and while it is slow paced that is not the case at all. I've seen my fair share of moe shows, and this one is one of the best. The jokes can actually land, and I laughed out loud at least once an episode, and chuckled or smiled far more than that. I basically was smiling the whole time. You will too, because these extremely cute girls are also extremely funny.

The art isn't anything special and neither is the ost. The op and Ed for the 1st and 3rd seasons are just normal with the 1st season being slightly better, but I watched the 2nd season op and Ed nearly every time. The 2nd season is probably one of the best, if not the best, op and ed combinations I've watched. Usually it's just one that's really good, but they were both awesome this time! (especially kyoko in the op)

That's not all that's good I have to say about this show.! The characters are actually more than one dimensional! They act like anime characters, but at the same time they are extremely believable and do stuff that I would too. This makes it wayyyy easier to relate to everyone, and makes all the jokes funnier because of it. Also toshino kyoko is the Best Girl for sure, and is in my top ten all time favorite anime characters. She's extremely funny, and believable as well. Akarin is also amazing!

The yuri in this show plays a part, but don't watch this expecting everyone to get together. It's mostly used for laughs and a few touching moments between characters.

The reason I'm giving this show an 8 and not higher when I love it so much is because it's still just moe, there aren't really any emotional stakes in anything or any overarching plot. That's why I gave k-on a higher score, because of those emotional beats. Regardless, if you are looking for a moe show to relax to, THIS IS THE ONE!

TL;DR: on the surface this is any other moe show, but in reality it's really funny and the characters are relatable. A must watch!

The Funniest Anime I have ever seen
waltebr11 January 2021
Oh my god, this was hilarious. Just for starters, I hadn't even gotten 2 minutes in the first episode, and I already was losing it. And all the fantasies that Chitose has when she takes her glasses off... TRULY. FREAKING. HILARIOUS. Every episode is well-polished, well-written, and good enough to the point where I can just burst out laughing and risk breaking a ribcage from it at the same time. The characters are also extremely cute and good for the anime. I recommend this to anyone who is starting on watching anime.
