Cortney Palm was asked during an interview why she decided to go topless for this role and her feelings in general on actresses being nude since many feel it can be misogynistic toward women. She said, "The nudity in Zombeavers was there as a joke because there has been so much nudity in horror. I think society makes it an issue because we guard nudity so much. I honestly think by freeing the nipple that maybe there wouldn't be such a need to make a fuss over breasts. The issue is that there are too many people who want to make a fuss over it."
One character mentions the Giardia lamblia parasite, which causes diarrhea and sometimes fever. Giardia was, during the 1970s, thought to be associated with beavers (hence the nickname "beaver fever"), but no connection with a specific animal has ever been shown. Between infecting hosts - often horses, cows and sheep - Giardia lives for several months in streams, lakes and water pools.

Nine different puppets were used for the zombie beavers.
Courtney Palm said in an interview that she was told taking this role would be a bad idea, but she's glad she did. She liked the role of Zoe because she is free-spirited and spunky. The nudity required didn't bother her at all either, pointing out she spent hours on set stark naked in front of several men for Sushi Girl (2012), so walking around with her boobs showing for this movie was no big deal at all. She also ended up making lasting friendships with some of the cast and it has led to some great things.
