Prime Video got off to a fast start this summer with the release of The Boys season 3 on June 3. Now, as we enter the dog days, Prime Video is set to keep the warm weather good times rolling with a new twist on an old classic. That’s right, Amazon’s list of new releases for August 2022 is highlighted by some good old-fashioned baseball.
A League of Their Own, the TV adaptation of Penny Marshall’s 1992 movie, is set to premiere on Aug. 12. Like the movie before it, the series will dramatize the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League which saw women playing America’s pastime while the major leagues were on pause for World War II. Abbi Jacobson (Broad City) co-created the show and will star as catcher Carson Shaw.
Other Prime Video Originals of note this month include season 2 of British comedy The Outlaws on and the Ron Howard-directed Thirteen Lives,...

Prime Video will continue rolling out its summer slate in the month of August, releasing new original series, as well as a mix of suspenseful films, action movies and more.
Amazon’s series version of “A League of Their Own” will debut its eight-episode first season on Aug. 12, introducing new characters and stories set in the historical opening of the All American Girls Professional Baseball League (Aagpbl).
Ron Howard’s “Thirteen Lives” tells the real-life story of how a young boys’ soccer team was rescued from the Thai mountain cave where they got stuck for 10 days along with their coach.
Other new film arrivals include hits from earlier this summer, “The Lost City” starring Sandra Bullock, Daniel Radcliffe, Channing Tatum and Brad Pitt, as well as “Sonic the Hedgehog 2.” Academy Award-nominated film “Licorice Pizza” also arrives on Prime Video this month.
Freevee will also have new arrivals this month.

Setting out to explore the benign, adorable side of extreme helicopter parenting, director Kyle Rideout and his co-screenwriter, Josh Epstein, could have landed in unbearably quirky territory. But their follow-up to the biographical drama Eadweard proves surprisingly light on its feet. The farcical story of a single mother, her only child and their wackily heartfelt testing of new waters is a feel-good comedy with a self-aware undertow of cringe. The writing and direction of Public Schooled put a bright spin on high-school antics, and the ace cast makes the grade, led by Judy Greer's long-proven down-to-earth magic and the deft...

The second feature from Eadweard helmer Kyle Rideout, Public Schooled has nothing in common with that film. “The first film that I did was an epic period film in the 1880s, so there's definitely not much of a through line to Public Schooled,” the director joked, sitting down with his Public Schooled stars—including Judy Greer, Russell Peters, and Tiff Rising Star Daniel Doheny—at Deadline’s Toronto Studio. “With this one, I was really wanting to do something that was a…...

"Your mind strings the pictures together and creates life." Whoa. Where did this come from? Deadline has premiered a teaser trailer for an indie biopic called Eadweard, about pioneering photographer Eadweard Muybridge who some may say was the very first filmmaker ever. He was the man who experimented with motion and multi-camera photography and eventually shot "The Horse In Motion" in 1886, known sort of as one of the very first movies ever made. Michael Eklund plays Eadweard and he's kind of a quirky proto-hipster, with a beard and a passion for vintage cameras. But this actually looks really, really good with some excellent attention to deal and an interesting story about an inventor. I am curious to see it as soon as I can. Here's the first teaser trailer for Kyle Rideout's Eadweard, originally from Deadline (on Vimeo): A psychological drama centered around world-famous turn-of-the-century photographer, Eadweard Muybridge...

Eadweard James Muybridge was kind of a big deal in the world of early movies. A bookseller-turned-photographer, Muybridge became world famous for his photographs of Yosemite Valley, for his pioneering work in stop motion photography and for developing a device for projecting motion pictures. Essentially, he was a forefather of the motion picture.
Actor turned director Kyle Rideout makes his feature film debut with Eadweard, a biopic on Muybridge which stars Michael Eklund, sporting some crazy facial hair, as the titular photographer. Eklund is best known for playing eccentrics and that seems to carry through to Eadweard who, in this movie at least, is made out as a bit of a power hungry control freak.
