Thanks to a rumor and a celebration, the soap legend has been the talk of the town over the past few weeks.
Once The Golden Bachelorette was green-lit, Susan’s name was thrown into the mix as the lead to kick off the new Bachelor Nation show.
As Monsters and Critics previously reported, The Golden Bachelorette has been announced, and it was not Susan.
Instead, The Golden Bachelor alum Joan Vassos will headline to show in the hopes of finding her second chance at love.
Now Susan has set the record straight on The Golden Bachelorette rumor, just in time to remember her 1999 Daytime Emmy win.

The wait is finally over. Earlier this month, ABC announced the first-ever golden bachelorette, ending months of speculation and gossip. Before the big announcement, several names were tossed around in fan circles as potential bachelorettes. Some celebrity names even made the list. Susan Lucci was talked about as a potential golden bachelorette. Once Joan Vassos was named the lead, fans quickly assumed ABC always knew who they were going with. That apparently wasn’t the case. Recently, Lucci revealed that her potential involvement wasn’t just a rumor; ABC contacted her team. She passed.
Susan Lucci says she was contacted about appearing on ‘The Golden Bachelorette’
Fans of the series mentioned Susan Lucci as a potential first-ever golden bachelorette. Still, few people believed Lucci was in talks to star on the reality dating competition. According to Lucci, she was never in serious talks about The Golden Bachelorette, but someone did reach out to her.

Bachelor alum, Sean Lowe experienced the ABC franchise, and he weighed in on the men in Joan Vassos’ Golden Bachelorette. Everyone knows she debuted on the Golden Bachelor but self-eliminated. So, not every Bachelor Nation viewer is thrilled about that.
ABC’s Sean Lowe Understands The Golden Bachelor?
A lot of the time, Sean, who met and married Catherine Giudici on his Bachelor season, seems to joke about being unhappily married. But it’s far from the truth. They raise three gorgeous kids together and stayed happily married for a decade. So, he’s probably qualified to talk about the cast for Joan Vassos.

Golden Bachelor & Bachelor Nation Stars Compete On Family Feud
Before his reality TV fame, Gerry Turner lived in his dream house on a beautiful lake in Indiana. The retired restaurateur, who previously owned a Mr. Quick hamburger franchise in Iowa, is often busy hosting barbecues, playing pickleball, and cheering on his favorite Chicago sports teams.
But he also still makes appearances for the popular Bachelor Nation franchise. He was among the alums taping an episode of the popular game show Family Feud in early April. ABC hasn’t officially canceled Bachelor In Paradise but one fan has a theory about the real reason it won’t air in 2024. Keep reading for more.
Huge Sign Bachelor In Paradise Won’t Air in 2024
Bachelor In Paradise began in 2014 as a fun summer show where Bachelor Nation alums hit the beach to hopefully find love. But in recent years, the show was pushed back to a September start date. In 2023, the show aired directly after the first-ever season of The Golden Bachelor.
Season 9 should have had a happy ending with three couples leaving the beach engaged or in a relationship. However, all three couples broke up almost immediately after leaving the beach.
As the months since the November 2023 finale passed with no word of a Season 10, fans grew concerned. Many blamed low ratings and the multiple breakups as a possible reason the show wouldn’t air this year.

Joan Vassos is set to appear this fall as the first-ever Golden Bachelorette. Vassos is familiar with the world of dating competitions. She appeared in Gerry Turner’s season of The Golden Bachelor and was a fan favorite before self-eliminating in week three. While Vassos is optimistic about her chances of finding love on The Golden Bachelorette, fans shouldn’t get prepped for another golden wedding. Vassos recently revealed wedding bells aren’t in her near future, despite being the lead on a dating show that regularly ends in engagement.

With “The Golden Bachelor” remaining one of the network’s top shows among Adults 18-49, ABC announced in February that it had greenlit a spinoff titled “The Golden Bachelorette,” which will air Wednesday nights this fall.
While presenting its 2024-2025 fall primetime schedule, the network announced that Joan Vassos, the 61-year-old grandmother and school administrator from Rockville, Maryland, the fan favorite from “The Golden Bachelor,” who self-eliminated herself from the competition when a medical concern with her daughter arose, will seek a second chance at finding love as the first-ever Golden Bachelorette.
Despite other challenges she’s faced along the way – including the heartbreaking loss of her husband after 32 years of marriage – ABC notes that Vassos remains “an embodiment of strength and grace as a devoted mother of four, grandmother of three, and school administrator while finding solace in the music of Elton John, spending time with her dog, and cooking.

Joan was named the next Bachelor Nation star at the Disney Upfronts earlier this week.
She seemed a longshot to take over for Gerry Turner after self-eliminating in Episode 3 of the premiere season of The Golden Bachelor.
But her crowning has been a pleasant surprise for those who can’t wait to watch the premiere season of The Golden Bachelorette.
Now that Joan has been named, Bachelor Nation is clamoring to know more, including her opinions on many hot subjects — including Gerry and Theresa Nist’s shock divorce news.
The pair decided to end their relationship just three months after their lavish televised wedding, a move that some fans thought dampened the show.

Golden Bachelor star Joan Vassos was named the historic first Golden Bachelorette. Is Gerry Turner’s runner-up, Leslie Fhima, bitter over the snub? Or is she responsible for the network choosing someone else?
Golden Bachelor Runner-Up Passed Over For Spinoff
Many people thought Leslie Fhima was a shoo-in for the first-ever Golden Bachelorette. After all, she was one of the two finalists on the first season of The Golden Bachelor.
Viewers felt empathy for her. Especially as they watched her heart break when Gerry Turner told her she wasn’t the right one for him. Whose heart didn’t hurt when Leslie said she’s never the right one for anyone?

She clearly wasn’t the right one for ABC to choose to lead the inaugural season of the Golden Bachelorette. That honor went to Joan Vassos, the 61-year-old widow who left the show early due to a family crisis.

Joan Vassos has been chosen to be The Golden Bachelorette and her season will come with some differences from past Bachelor shows. Usually, Bachelor or Bachelorette airs on Mondays. Gerry Turner’s The Golden Bachelor aired on Thursdays, and Joan Vassos’ Golden Bachelorette will air on Wednesdays on ABC. That’s just one difference for the new show. Read on to find out more.
The Golden Bachelorette Gets 90-Minute Episodes
The Golden Bachelor episodes lasted one hour, but for Joan Vassos, the episodes will air for 90 minutes. Of course, one big difference is the age of the contestants. Joan Vassos is 61 years old and will be looking to date men more her age.
Joan Vassos self-eliminated – Golden Bachelor – ABC
It’s not unusual for Bachelor Nation to cast a previous contestant from another show. For example, Bachelor leads often come from The Bachelorette. Once again, that is true with Joan Vassos.

The best thing about television is that it is constantly changing to better suit the interests of its audience. However, there are many dangers behind these changes, as they sometimes result in the popular shows being cut short, moved to the least attractive time slot, or even canceled altogether.
These changes coming from one of the ‘big four’ cable TV networks, ABC, are already making fans of Grey's Anatomy and Abbott Elementary lose their minds over the new 2024/2025 schedule in which their favorite shows have gotten the shorter end of the stick. The Golden Bachelorette is coming in the Fall of 2024 to ABC.
With the Disney Upfronts going on right now, a lot of information is being shared about the upcoming woman-led spinoff series.
Bachelor Nation can’t seem to agree on who we want to be the star, with some calling for Susan Noles, Faith Martin, or Leslie Fhima among those The Golden Bachelor viewers want to see most.
It’s no competition when it comes to who viewers don’t want to see in the lead role — Kathy “Zip It” Swarts.
Now we know who the lead will be, and it’s safe to say that no one was expecting this announcement.
It’s about time, too, because The Golden Bachelorette filming starts soon and not knowing who would be the star was getting very frustrating.

The big The Golden Bachelorette announcement has finally been made.
Joan Vassos will be taking the lead as the first star for the women-led spinoff, and it’s safe to say that Bachelor Nation is excited.
Joan is an excellent choice for the role even though she seemed an unlikely contender, considering she self-eliminated in Episode 3 of Gerry Turner’s season.
But even back then, The Golden Bachelor viewers were calling for her to be cast in his role, and it seems that The Golden Bachelorette producers were listening.

ABC announced the name of the first Golden Bachelorette four months before the spinoff premieres this fall. Golden Bachelor Gerry Turner has some words of wisdom to share with her. Keep reading to find out his advice.
First Look At Golden Bachelorette
ABC dropped its fall TV schedule and it had a few bombshells. The first season of The Golden Bachelorette will air on Wednesdays instead of the traditional Monday nights. Additionally, the episodes will be 90 minutes compared to The Golden Bachelor‘s one-hour episodes last fall.
But that’s not all. Hours after releasing the schedule, the network dropped something even bigger: the name of the first Golden Bachelorette.
Joan Vassos will get a second chance at finding love. The widow was a contestant on Gerry Turner’s season. Despite being a front-runner, she self-eliminated in Week 3 to be with her daughter, who had recently had a baby.

Jimmy Kimmel is, without fail, the highlight of TV’s upfronts week every year; 2024 was no exception.
The “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” host left no stone unturned in his annual profane and ruthless takedown of everything Disney (and everyone else in Hollywood) wants to sell to advertisers. This year that included the new Disney+ bundle with Hulu and Max, Netflix finally kissing the asses of said advertisers, the AMPTP, “The Golden Bachelor,” and finding a catchy new name for that sports-streaming service Disney is working on with Fox and Warner Bros. Discovery.
He started things off with a huge announcement: Bob Iger’s successor at Disney as CEO is… an artificially intelligent Bob Iger clone. AIger.
“Bob isn’t going anywhere ever again anywhere,” Kimmel said. “We uploaded him to the cloud so that we can live in peace and prosperity under the watchful AI of the Iger. All hail AIger!

“Jimmy Kimmel Live!” host Jimmy Kimmel once again shared the Disney upfronts stage on Tuesday, providing his zingers in person for advertisers and media buyers at the programming presentation for the first time in five years. That’s because last year Kimmel didn’t attend due to the Hollywood WGA strikes. And in 2022, he was in New York — but had to be beamed in to do his routine after testing positive for Covid. (The 2021 and 2020 upfronts were virtual because of the pandemic.)
“Two years ago, I couldn’t be here in person because I had Covid. And last year, I couldn’t be here because of the writer’s strike. And this year I couldn’t think of a third excuse,” Kimmel said. “I tried diarrhea on the plane, but I guess they get that all the time now.”

Joan Vassos is getting another shot at love.
The 61-year-old school administrator has been cast as the inaugural Golden Bachelorette, ABC announced Tuesday during Disney’s Upfront presentation.
Vassos was an early frontrunner during Gerry Turner’s season of The Golden Bachelor. She unfortunately had to voluntarily leave the show during Week 3 due to a family emergency. During the Women Tell All, Vassos admitted that she felt there was some unfinished business between her and Turner. At times, she said it was hard not to wonder what may have happened if she’d stayed.
ABC also announced that The Golden Bachelorette, which debuts this fall, will air on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. Et/Pt before new episodes of Abbott Elementary.

“The Golden Bachelor was probably the television event last year,” ABC TV Group President Craig Erwich said in an interview with Deadline on the day of the Disney upfront presentation. The Bachelor offshoot was so successful, it spawned a highly rated special, The Golden Wedding.
But just three months after Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist tied the knot, they filed for divorce having never lived together. The controversy raised questions about the future of the franchise whose previously ordered spinoff, The Golden Bachelorette, premieres this fall.
The Golden Bachelor is not going anywhere, Erwich suggested.
“I think Golden Bachelor is a show that’s about finding love at a later age. It’s incredibly root-able, it’s aspirational, and that franchise and those values extend to a lot of different people and a lot of different stories. So we’re very dedicated to this franchise,” he said.

Well, if you had tried to get us to guess the ABC 2024-25 fall season announcement, we couldn’t have predicted much of it.
There are new shows sprinkled throughout, but ABC is going almost full reality, which is a choice.
Let’s see what we’ve got to work with here.
Two new shows will interest TV Fanatics: High Potential, starring Kaitlin Olson, which was delayed due to the strikes, and Doctor Odyssey, starring Joshua Jackson as a cruise ship doctor.
High Potential gets a 10/9c slot on Tuesdays after Dancing with the Stars.
Despite the relationship disaster of The Golden Bachelor, ABC is dedicating an hour and a half weekly to The Golden Bachelorette while snuggling award-winning comedy Abbott Elementary between that and a docuseries called Scamanda.
Thursdays find Doctor Odyssey after 9-1-1 and before Grey’s Anatomy.
And TV Fanatic favorites The Rookie and Will Trent? Saved for midseason.
