Phooey

This was a shipwreck in search of a final resting place. Probably the worst acting in human history! Very little use of the real Vineyard. The story lines were so artificial and contrived that they were embarrassing. It is basically an hour long commercial for The Black Dog. Let's not even get into the issue of diversity. The whole cast came from the same gene pool. I am sure teenage girls will find the male cast "dreamy" and may carry the show along for further episodes, maybe. However, if you love the real Martha's Vineyard, if you enjoy good acting, if an interesting cast is what draws your attention...then avoid this turkey with all your might! It is a vapid, meaningless waste of money and resources. You can expect the residents of Martha's Vineyard to rise up at any moment with pitchforks and torches and go in search of ABC and whoever wrote this piece of trash.

Ehh. Not great
lr_millis7 August 2013
When I watch it, it reminds me of watching 'The Hills', 'The OC', and not so great reality shows like that.. it doesn't strike me as a TV show. I don't think they did a very good job at scripting this. The acting wasn't really up to par. They seemed fake. I thought it would be a good show but I just couldn't get into it. I tried watching a couple episodes to see if i was able to change my mind about it, i just couldn't do it. It may be a great show for some people but I'm using my own opinion about it and it shouldn't reflect someone else's POV of the show. Maybe I don't understand, is this a reality show? Or did they grab a bunch of kids and told them to say these lines? I'm seeing that is labeled a "docu-soap" the filming seems to be that way but not the cast. Hopefully it'll get better with time but I don't think that's a guarantee.

Did we bring this on ourselves?
rockcasbah1163 August 2013
Only watched the first episode, and don't think I can take anymore, so this will have to do. It was one of the worst TV programs I have ever seen. Why? It is supposed to be a "docusoap" so you expect some basis of reality to be injected. There is none. These people/characters are so wooden, fake and stereotypical. Your intelligence will shout "you are insulting me" as you watch.

The cast of characters are very poor actors and that is where the frustration begins. If this is the format they were going to try and sell, at least cast actors a little more experienced than first term high school drama class. The writing? I bet you could pick anyone in your current household although currently employed in other professions who could not have written a better script. Suffice it to say it could not be worse.

In trying to find a reason to give it more than a 1 star, so maybe the scenery of Martha's Vineyard? So I gave it 2 stars for that alone. (I am not being harsh because I have never given anything on IMDb 2 stars before.) I see why this production was labeled a "docusoap" instead of a reality show, because they would be quickly exposed as a fraud.

I just chalk this show up to what we have brought on ourselves with the low-bar acceptance of shows like this masquarading as reality. It just keeps getting worse and worse.

Trash. Vapid, abysmal, and downright NON-reality.
agudal6 August 2013
This was by far, with no stretch of the imagination, the absolute worst thing I have ever had the displeasure of watching. Give me the hour of my life back. I am fully confident that an elementary school play would have better actors than this show. It is painfully obvious that the entire show is scripted, which is given away by the completely deadpan actors attempting to express emotion on their face and with their lines. There is no shred of reality in this "reality" television show.

It is a complete misrepresentation of everything that occurs on the vineyard. The "locals" are poorly portrayed, and the amount of Black Dog products displayed in the show is sickening. It is very clear who funded this series. BLACK DOG should be ASHAMED for ever bringing something like this to the vineyard, and I hope (although unlikely) that this show dives and brings no further business to the BLACK DOG.

Subtract the quantity 1 from my rating, I give this a ZERO out of TEN. DO NOT waste your time.

Poor Script and Talentless
msah8311 August 2013
The poorest script ever. The actors/actresses smiled all the time and making the conversation very superficial. A line which was supposed to sound angry or quarreling, they have smirking face and giggling all the times. Pretentious and fake!

I think the director and the actors need to know what facial impression are.

Indeed, to quote Cowell's: not all goodlooking comes with talents.

The conversation and story don't grow at all. Most of the part is dragging or i would say, bragging!

It will be a total surprise if this series is renewed for another season, or even make it to the final episode in this first season.

awful
ob60625 July 2013
was excited for this series. Live on Cape year round. Its so horribly over scripted and plastic. Fake fake fake. Painful to watch. The cast is overly perfect. This is one of the worst done reality shows I have ever seen...because there is NOTHING real about it other than the location! Everyone looks like they spend several hours at the gym. Perfectly made up and clothed. No one looks like this on the island. Suck a disappointment. Planned scripted conflicts. Perfect bodies no body fat spray tanned. Very sad. The island is such an interesting place. This show is a complete painful embarrassment. Its so bad that I went out of my way to find a place to post how horrible it is. I live here and am insulted to have such plastic garbage portrayed.

A triumph in modern television
chisoxduke913 October 2013
Full of picturesque wide angle shots, more lighthouses than can be counted, and catty college students who look like 30 year-olds, the Vineyard illustrates reality television at its finest: a deep, emotional, and ultimately triumphant look into the complicated and challenging life of the rich American east-coaster. These starry-eyed youngsters showcase the finer qualities of this nation's youth. This is TV that celebrates the human condition and shows just how hard the lives of the privileged can be. Bravo ABC Family, you have yet to disappoint. 10/10, A+, gold star. This revolutionary show brings forth the best in Martha's Vineyard's qualities, creating a work of art that will forever alter the way you think about southeastern Massachusetts.

Happy Summer viewing
buffalobilljohnston-6-95764626 September 2013
September 2013: I didn't know the cast was real people until today. I was looking up Katie who strongly resembles a relative of mine. I previously presumed this cast was most likely a grownup cast of Disney kids, especially Jackie who looks suspiciously familiar! Guess I was wrong.

THE VINEYARD is refreshing relaxing summer fare, very attractive cast, beautiful location. Looking back on this summer series, it was nice to have this change of pace from all the apocalyptic futuristic mystery crime comedy medical competition action vampire zombie thrillers I love, and to unwind with a comfortable show like this. To Katie and the cast, a job well done.

A poorly written, non-believable portrayal of Martha's Vineyard.
chococuzzy24 July 2013
This is one of the worst shows I have ever seen. The writing was awful, the cast couldn't act, and they didn't show enough if the island itself. When the actors were supposed to be angry or upset, they were smiling, corny, and not believable in any way. The narrations delivered by one of the show's main characters are annoying, lacking the proper emotion, and similar to that of a tour guide. The image of islanders is completely blown out of proportion, causing the island locals to seem like black dog obsessed young adults who throw parties all the time and live like kings. in reality, the vineyard natives are very relaxed and laid back, and do not own many things purchased from he black dog. Also, the writing was very poor, unbelievable, and reminiscent to over-dramatized soap operas. This show is an abomination to Martha's Vineyard.
