Little actor steals the show
elbehar12 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
There's nothing like a good drama that brings back a past love in to the picture and misunderstandings go flying everywhere.

A love/hate relationship between Xin Qi, the CEO of an ivenstment firm and Min Hui, a R&D assistant to one of the directors at a tech firm.

Their story began when a commun friend dies in a bus accident and Min Hui she tries to fufill her dying wish. In comes the first misunderstanding that not only brought them together but all tore them apart.

Five years have comne and gone and fate brings them back together when they both attend a cocktail party. Even though he still resents her for lying to him all those years back his instincts kick in and protects her from being splashed with wine. Fate decides to go one step further in revealing that Min Hui has a son with the same heart problems as Xin Qi., making him realize that the child is his.

After discovering that QuanQuan is his flesh in blood and not wanting to waste a single minute Xin Qi decides to move in and be a part of his son's life.

The little boy that plays QuanQuan is absolutely adorable and does such an amazing. He actually steals the show with his funny lines and adorable face.

Wonderful Show - 👏👏👏👏

I don't agree with the prior review so I guess we'll have to agree to disagree!! I think this drama reflects a multitude of issues and rather than just key in on one, there're are also others addressed, specifically the issue in workplaces like sexual harassment on the job (which in some instances are still prevalent even though well hidden) & the message being that it shouldn't just be allowed and victims should be strong and stand up for themselves! It also brings awareness of heart/health conditions! Along with that is a very touching love story with added storylines and every instance was well acted with emotion that had our group in tears by the last episode! There's love, angst, humor, anger, sadness...and all of the gamut of emotions are very well acted by the cast!

I absolutely adore the 2 main lead actors!! Their chemistry is so wonderful and believable, as if they are truly a real life couple!! Great drama and I really really hope to see these 2 is many more dramas! Fell in love with their acting in Once We Get Married (awesome) and now this wonderful drama!! Now our group are huge fans of these two...we'll be watching to see their next drama!

The little actor that plays QuanQuan is adorable and one to watch as an actor as he gets older! He does such a good job now...can't wait till he grows up & see how good he'll be then!!

Everyone in this show did really well - casting director, much respect!! Very well cast! 👏👏👏

Warning: Spoilers
10/10 is my rating. This is a 2023 Chinese modern romantic drama with 28, 45 minute episodes.

First I write a synopsis and then review

Synopsis

Xin Qi (Wang Zi Ki) was once a romantic young man with a heart condition who dreamed of making good on a promise he had with a girl who grew up in the same orphanage. A series of errors leads to him mistaking Min Hui (Wang Yu Wen) as that childhood love. They fall in love and Min Hui tells Xin Qi the truth. He does not take it well and vows to never forgive her then lands in the hospital clinging to life. Min Hui stays long enough to see him through surgery and on the road to recovery before disappearing while pregnant with the child she kept secret. Years later, Min Hui and Xin Qi reunited when their professions bring them together through work. Min Hui is a brilliant medical software programmer and Xin Qi is the CEO of a company that holds many investments in medical technologies. They did not part on good terms and Xin Qi is not ready to give up on the resentment he harbors toward the woman he thinks betrayed his trust even as he grows curious about the age and similarities to himself of her young son, Min Quanquan (Cui Yi Xin). Could he be the father? Did he really want Min Hui out if his life forever?

Review

I loved this show and my only sadness was when it was over. The female lead is smart, strong and courageous. She does not allow the male chauvinists in her work and beyond to get away with sexually harassing her or anyone else on her watch and gets them back in the most delightful ways. Yet she is not an over the top woke feminist she just wants mutual respect. She also does not let the men in her life treat her poorly. The male lead is just the right combination of serious and very capable businessman and charming and engaging human being. I disagree with others that thought the side romances were annoying. There was one side character, the ballerina, who started out a bit whiny and clingy but she underwent great character development and turned out to be a character I was rooting for. I looked up what it is like in modern China because these shows make me curious if it is only the elite that has this type of lifestyle but there is actually a growing middle class in China. So the characters may not only represent the elite. I loved the little boy character as he was so smart, cute and funny. I highly recommend this to anyone that likes heart warming romance. As someone who hates sad or nebulous endings I can attest that this has a very happy ending and the story line is well wrapped up.

Spoilers* My greatest concern was that either the dad or the little boy would die or suffer very ill effects from their heart conditions but they both live and have their heart issues managed through surgery and seem as if they will live healthy lives. I loved that when main guy treated the female lead poorly because he had doubts about her from the past she was basically like I don't need you and he had to work to prove to her that he would stand by her and trust her moral character. When the female lead character thought he was trying to take her son from her she gave him no quarter. I think you let people in your life know how you are willing to be treated and she was really clear that she wanted him to love her for her and not just as the mother of his son. She made it clear she would not let anyone, even him, come in between her relationship with her son. I liked how he so quickly accepted he was a father and his initial surprise turned to delight at the thought. The interplay between the father and son and the son and the mother was so delightful. Dressing him up in matching outfits and playing super hero with him are things that a father who truly loved their child would do. But he was a perfect partner for the female lead too, when he found out she was sexually assaulted his response was absolutely perfect. He supported her, empathized, and helped ensure the man who assaulted her was punished. I loved his assistant too. I loved how much he cared for his boss/friend and the relationship his assistant developed with the little boy. Even the second guy in this one had a happy ending. It is a rare case where you feel the second guy has a great outcome but in this case he did. The persistent ballerina was probably the only one who could have won him away from his pursuit of lead girl. And it all ended perfectly for me. I love happily ever after so seeing the wedding was a very happy moment. I liked that we even saw the little family two years later and that they had another child. It was just enough without being too much.

The kid is the best of this show if not the only good thing
hanalisss14 May 2023
I really wanted to like this but sorry it reiterates a very sexist rhetoric that the mum wasn't doing enough for the kid before the father came along ( despite her having a great relationship with him, giving him everything he needed and working in her great career being successful too) He spent half of the show criticizing her house, her cooking, her decisions about the kid and trying very toxic blackmail buying him toys and playing with him to antagonize them. I know it's supposed to be funny and joking but it's very cringe to me and a huge red flag.

I honestly cant believe this is written by the same writer as Remembrance of things past, what happened???

The show keeps belittling women and mentioning how they are inferior to men in the workforce and they need men to progress and NOT ONCE this is corrected or contradicted by anyone.

It also baffles me the fact that the ML literally imposes his presence into the FL's life and does it literally by force. Then the dialogue is basically that she was lacking, she didn't do enough and the kid was never as happy as he is with the new found dad.

I mean I come from a family where both parents were loving and present but that's not the case for everyone and it saddens me that they are stating a kid cant be happy or full filled with only one parent. Mostly where the FL here has an amazing support system with awesome friends supporting and caring for her and her child.

The secondary and thir storylines with the 2nd Fl and the 2nd ML are quite boring and repetitive.

Overall, lighthearted and fluffy and the highlights of the show are the scenes were the kid is being witty and acting all grown up, he is such a natural actor !

The love you give is complicated
cparchment-5748129 September 2023
I gave this show one star and it's because of the little boy that plays the son. I was highly irritated with the female lead as she was very hypocritical throughout the show. I despise situations in which a mother feels justified in hiding the existence of the child from their dad. She lies to him over and over and defends herself, but anytime there's a misunderstanding she never listens to him, believe him or trust him. She would rather allow herself to be demeaned than reach out to her son's father for help. Rather than share her concerns with the dad, she tells the doctor. She confessed the entire situation to her friend and the doctor but forbade him from telling anyone. Every situation she thought only about herself and her pettiness with her son in asking who he loved more, when he asked about his dad, she tried to manipulate him emotionally and he called her out on being petty. It was poorly written overall to me but it's never ok to keep a child from their parent and lie about it over and over and justify yourself as though it's completely up to just one parent. The father can't make a baby on his own and neither can a mother so both have the right to know about the child and be able to be present in their lives if the parents aren't together. She's was too self righteous towards the male lead. The communication was poor among all the couples it's as the boy said, the adults couldn't just speak their minds instead of assuming the others could read their thoughts.
